I just want to express my congratulations to all the Rutgers fans and the NJ football community for making this camp war a total victory for RU. From the RU pranksters, to the turnout at the Tri-State Camp (including all the RU former players), to the intense media and social media presence of the fans, we saw the RU fanbase flex its muscles like never before. It's a milestone.

Congrats to Ash for the masterful stroke that proved the rallying cry for all of this.

Here is a quote from Vail, the president of Paramus Catholic on the response to the Michigan Camp (and their public love-fest with Michigan): “Myself, my team, my school are being viciously and personally attacked for having a coach from another state speak at our graduation and as one of the 45 college coaches coming here,” Vail said.

Exactly! Well done. Let it be a message to everyone that you can't diss the home state U and think that it's all OK. IT'S NOT OK. It will never be OK again.

I have no idea who "won" the "camp war," nor do I care. All I know is (a) it's wildly entertaining how much so many of you seem to care about a single satellite camp, and (b) these next 80+ days need to pass quickly so we can discuss things that matter.

Recruiting matters and this was mostly about recruiting, despite what Harbaugh would like you to believe

Dude, if you didn't have fun with what transpired yesterday, you're taking it way too seriously.

Oh, I know that both of those things are true. Anyone who thinks coaches - not just Harbaugh but any coach - are participating in camps around the country to help kids is out of their mind. That's a side benefit of the camps, of course, but major college coaches are doing it to get in front of kids who might not be able to travel to campus so easily, and in an attempt to build relationships in different areas.

That said, if we're putting this in the context of "wins" and "losses," and "recruiting battles," this is along the lines of a beat cop making an arrest for someone dealing a small amount of pot; it took a guy off the street for a few hours, but it's not even making a dent in the war on drugs. You guys should enjoy it and have some fun with it because (a) there's not much going on until summer practice starts and (b) Harbaugh is a nut who invites this kind of stuff, but at the end of the day it's one satellite camp. It's not going to move the needle in the long run, and I think that's why I find it a bit silly all the attention this has received, from this board to PC's response to Harbaugh's comments.

Is Ash doing anything to "counter" Penn State's camp in New Jersey this weekend?

Eh, I don't like to say we 'won' (how do you 'win camp', ya know?), but I think Coach Ash's/ the program's response was awesome. You don't bow down and kiss anyone's feet in this game. Also, who is Vail kidding with the 'it's not a Michigan camp; it's a PC camp'????? It's been announced and covered as a 'Michigan Camp' ever since it was announced. Even the Michigan fans here have called it that.

I don't disagree but like you said, it has to be viewed in proper context. If you're Rutgers coming off few very down down years under Flood both in win/loss and recruiting column, 0 commits in NJ Top 10 in 4 tries, while allowing conference foes like Michigan and you guys raid the state of NJ at will without putting up much resistance, this was no small deal.

WHO?
Can't handle being an afterthought. :flush:  No one is talking about State Penn.[poop]

Oh no. You can claim all of that. The something of bloods and all. I found it all both hilarious and embarrassing, as did many others.

All that matters in the end is that the RU fans loved it and the camp served its purpose.

The need to always feel important, but not on this site. Go back to the other site.:D

A feud is brewing here and it wont be the last of it. Problem is Harbaugh and michigan already got most of the top NJ talent in this past recruiting class already signed. That could come back to haunt us on the field for the next couple years. The camps generated a great buzz for R state pride and hopefully it reasonated with the next generation that they R gonna make New Jersey the powerhouse it is instead of going to represent a place like Michigan..could have used it a year earlier but hopefully this years team will back it up on the field on that rockin Saturday night

I have to disagree that this wasn't a big deal. Michigan came into NJ and cleaned up in recruiting last year. Harbaugh then came in and got cocky and overreached. Ash stood his ground, hit back, and slapped him in the face. Because of this, Rutgers is now being seen as a recruiting rival to Michigan (albeit in our own state). That's a huge step going forward. Perception is changing and things are happening a lot faster than I would have thought.

Man, the biggest loser in this is definitely Vail. He sounds like a whiney b#tch. And he has big, jiggly moobs in that photo.

I like that Ash is taking a stand and making him work but all this is doing is pissing Harbaugh off. He will be even more aggressive and creative on and off the field.
In the long term, that doesn't really matter. Harbaugh will probably implode and be gone from Michigan within three years. The thing that matters most is that the perception that NJ high school coaches and players have of Rutgers is changing. That's always been one of the biggest obstacles to RU becoming a real football power. Huge strides were made under Schiano, but progress stopped and there was some regression. Now, it looks like we're moving forward again.

...and did anyone happen to catch The Record and Darren Cooper's article today??? Did he meet Partridge at the airport and carry his bags? The guy is such a groveling sycophant for Partridge/PC and now Harbaugh by proxy it's sickening.

I referenced the PSU camp and Ash not because I need you guys to talk about PSU - let's be honest, there's plenty of that here with no encouragement - but because I'm of the opinion that the Rutgers camp last weekend was more the brainchild of Urban Meyer than Chris Ash, and more of an OSU response to UM in NJ than a Rutgers one. Don't get me wrong, you guys absolutely benefit from the exposure this whole thing has brought, but I'm thinking Meyer initiated the camp as a recruiting tool to use against UM and Harbaugh. And if that isn't the case, given that PSU will typically be more of a recruiting enemy for RU than UM, you'd think Ash and Rutgers, if the intention is to "counter" these things, would have something this weekend too.

In general, is the Rutgers staff planning to attend other camps throughout the country? I haven't seen a complete list anywhere.

Isn't three years the life expectancy of a Rutgers football coach?

I DJ-ed our work picnic today (about 75 people) and played "Ride of the Valkyries" as a change of pace. I don't usually play anything classical, but it went over pretty well and quite a few people were quoting Lt. Colonel Kilgore.
That movie really made an impression on me as 17 year old. Wagner at at party, that is petty awesome out of the box programming.

I don't believe I have seen it written any where that this was the brainchild of Urban. Maybe it was but I would be more inclined to believe it resulted from a conversation between Ash and Meyer.

That's fair. I mean, I'm just speculating because of the OSU-UM rivalry and the fact that Michigan cleaned up in New Jersey last year. No matter how it came to be, it was certainly mutually beneficial to RU and OSU. RU needed Meyer to make the camp more attractive, and it was an opportunity for OSU to deflect some attention from UM.
