RU has to be the worst layup shooting team in the country!
Thank you for posting this …I have felt we were reallt week from the left side of the paint …which confirms …and cliff post mkre on the right side
I mean, we probably aren't specifially worse from the "left side" of the paint lol. That's just random noise. (If you leave us open from deep left corner you're doomed!)So basically a team just has to force us to shoot from the left side of the paint out to the perimeter and we’re doomed.
Left side of the paint I would expect majority of teams to be worse from since most people are right handedI mean, we probably aren't specifially worse from the "left side" of the paint lol. That's just random noise. (If you leave us open from deep left corner you're doomed!)
Fair but this is supposedly relative (i.e. compared to the D1 average).Left side of the paint I would expect majority of teams to be worse from since most people are right handed

I haven't done any kind of formal analysis Green Rice FIG, but simply based on the eye test it's hard to believe that we don't miss any more layups than other teams. I am a very positive fan and a huge supporter of our team and coaching staff, but our inability to finish near the basket is remarkable. Maybe it's your definition of "lay-up?" If it was only contested prayer lay-ups by 6'1" guards you might have a point, but it's open shots, contested shots, lay-ups, put-backs, tip-ins, floaters...taken by guards, forwards, centers. I feel like just about any shot taken within five feet of the basket has been an absolute adventure. It's really uncanny. We don't miss any more layups then other teams....we miss prayers thrown up at the rim by 6'1'' guards.

It's both, imo. We have definitely taken a number of low quality shots that still show up as "close" shots in the stats. But we have also missed a bunch of good, easy ones.I haven't done any kind of formal analysis Green Rice FIG, but simply based on the eye test it's hard to believe that we don't miss any more layups than other teams. Simple bounce pass makes us better. I don’t understand why Pikiell is letting this happen over and over. The last game when JM took off like Superman attempting a slam while we are down a bunch Pikiell should have sat his butt down. As others have said SP sometimes seems too nice and understanding. Others say he ‘s tough at the right times well guess what … we are in tough times… not looking like we make 15 wins this season.
My take on it is, tell JMike it’s ok to do that, just be sure you make the shot from now on.The last game when JM took off like Superman attempting a slam while we are down a bunch Pikiell should have sat his butt down. Yeah, this. Of all the issues we have, an overambitious dunk attempt there is the least of them.My take on it is, tell JMike it’s ok to do that, just be sure you make the shot from now on.
I had no problem with it because he saw an opening, his competitive fire took over, and made an aggressive move. We need more aggression and toughness on this team, if you ask me. JMike brings that.
Yeah, this. Of all the issues we have, an overambitious dunk attempt there is the least of them.
I dunno, probably a lot if we can't hit any outside shots and have no offensive paint presence. The problem is that it's not an isolated overambitious dunk attempt.
How many overambitious out of control layup attempts are Davis, Fernandes and Simpson going to attempt against much taller players?
I could be exaggerating but I remember Derek last year pretty frequently would try to dunk at times he had no business doing so. He would take some pretty hard fouls but he would usually at least get the whistle when he did it.Yeah, this. Of all the issues we have, an overambitious dunk attempt there is the least of them.
The times we've driven to the lane, drew a defender, and dished to a big are rare as hen's teeth. The times we've penetrated to the lane, collapsed the defense, and kicked to a shooter who was READY AND WILLING to shoot a three are also sparse.I just don't think lack of coach toughness is really the issue.. how do you convince players not to drive into the trees when there is no alternative? People around here don't want us to take threes because we shoot 29%, they don't want to pass the ball to Cliff because he struggles in the post, and they don't want to drive. What do we do? Much like there's no way to strategize defense that will stop a team that is passing well and shooting 45% from three, there is no way to strategize offense that works around *that* many limitations.
We're playing without a point guard. Its not the best situationSimple bounce pass makes us better. I don’t understand why Pikiell is letting this happen over and over.
A lack of team chemistry does seem to be the biggest underlying problem with this team. Lots of transfers in and out doesn’t help in that regard. The times we've driven to the lane, drew a defender, and dished to a big are rare as hen's teeth. The times we've penetrated to the lane, collapsed the defense, and kicked to a shooter who was READY AND WILLING to shoot a three are also sparse.
Simpson still drives down to the low block and stops without any clear plan what to do next and gets stuck. All the guards will penetrate to the rim and get in trouble, and not know where their shooters or bigs are to lay the ball off. So many pull ups from 15+ feet out, instead of 5-8 feet out. And when the ball is kicked to guards on the arc, they hesitate and put the ball back on the floor.
And a lot comes down to lack of trust/chemistry. Guys are forcing bad shots at the rim because they don't trust their teammates to be able to score if they dish it.
As for the easy ones that we miss, I've got nothin'....
I think that is the actual issue.Yeah, this. Of all the issues we have, an overambitious dunk attempt there is the least of them.
It's really "at the rim" percentage and it's badLayup is a misnomer.
