Kudos to Coach Pikiell for nailing it.

"Pikiell was only taking one transfer last offseason, someone to replace five-year mainstay Geo Baker. He had to get it right."

"It’s raised more than a few eyebrows that Spencer, who was rated at zero stars by the major recruiting analysts coming out of high school, has bloomed on the big stage like this."
Pikiell liked what he saw from Spencer on tape, the bucket-getting and ball-hawking. He also appreciated what Spencer was like off the court – for one thing, don’t bother looking for Spencer’s social media presence. It doesn’t exist."

"Spencer’s success is another sign that recruiting rankings rarely tell the full story."

Good article but "only taking one transfer" is demonstrably untrue since Rutgers pursued Kyle Lofton long after Spencer was committed.

Yup was about to say that. Why are these people lying when it’s so obviously untrue? That lie added nothing to the greatness of Pike and very unnecessary.

There was still some question on whether McConnell was coming back at that time, if I remember. McConnell announced he was returning at the end of May, and Lofton committed to Florida mid-may.

Maybe that was the initial plan when Spencer committed, but a new opportunity with Lofton surfaced later. Either way, this was a great read and I'm thrilled Cam is here. He's making this a fun season.

Weird take to accuse people of lying, but such is the nature of "social" media. Daggers out all the time. Logical explanation posted immediately below your post regarding McConnell. And the article said that they were only taking one transfer "someone to replace five-year mainstay Geo Baker." Spencer committed around April 19. Caleb McConnell announced May 31 or June 1 that he was returning.

This makes the most sense as NIL stuff was still being worked out with Caleb.

Nah dude. Everyone and their mother knew Caleb was staying way before he officially announced. Are you really naive enough to believe the coaching staff was in the dark until June 1st? Rutgers kept an open scholarship to add a player like lofton but didn’t so they then gave it to chol before the season started. They literally reached out to lofton the day he put himself in the portal.

And more of the nature of social media. Keep arguing your point, and double down. Triple down. If someone makes a really good point that puts a hole in your argument, don’t acknowledge the other’s thoughts as valid, just keep doubling down.

It’s insane.
