Current Bowl Possibilities

People who need to spend time with family on holidays are people who don’t have real relationships with their families. I get aging parents and time but outside of that and young children it’s dumb.
What a strange post. Your idea of what a holiday should be and someone else’s don’t need to match. You sound like you’re judging how people choose to spend time with their families. I don’t think you want to be that guy.

You do you, totally fine. But leave it there.

Agree- very strange post. I see our kids( all in their 30’s) our nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters many times during any year. And it is rarely a sit down dinner type of get togethers.
Having a holiday that gets all that family together in one spot and spending quality time, is huge.

That said- I also had a great time during GS 1.0 spending one Xmas at a hotel and another one on a flight. But at that time, my kids that weren’t playing were all between 10-15 and they found it to be a blast.

I’d imagine much more limiting to have a game in the day after Christmas.

I can only speak for myself but seems kind of silly to go back to work starting on a Thursday so I’m just taking off those days whether we had a bowl or not.

Phoenix is the 26th??
Oh didn't realize that. Had only looked at Charlotte.

That stinks too actually.

A couple articles say that the Mayo bowl picks before Music City. Is that true?

Nebraska should really go to Phoenix. I understand they have history and fan base that travels, but are their fans really going to show up in droves for some far away low tier bowl following a 6-6 season where potentially half their roster backs out of playing the game? I’m not seeing why there’s so much appeal to not take the better of the 2 teams. Sure - they won the head to head but the game was at their place in obscurely favorable conditions for them. They won by one score. We have a better record both in conference and overall. They played tougher teams but also got to play 1-11 Purdue.

I’m not judging anyone. I’m just saying that using a holiday as an excuse is stupid outside of small children who believe and aging parents.

December 2005
Rutgers makes the Insight Bowl in Phoenix on December 27th

I'm a poor senior at Rutgers. My roommate and I decide to scrape our nickels together and go.

Found a nice "cheap" flight out of EWR on Christmas Day night.
Don't even remember the layover we would have.

My roommate says he can't leave on Xmas. His mother would kill him.
We flew out late afternoon December 26th for more money overall.
Missed out on a whole day in Phoenix.

I was quite annoyed. My mom said as along as I was there for the morning she didn't care.

Not trying to belittle anyone's feeling or thoughts just putting my own personal anecdote out there.

man you are so totally off base with your opinions of others. Go enjoy whatever the F you want to do but (respectfully) stop with the BS judging of other's values.

I wonder if this is premised in any actual knowledge of the considerations by the B1G and the Bowls themselves? There’s prognosticators saying Phoenix, RU now lobbying for Charlotte, and a writer now saying Nashville. Wild stuff.
Yeah. The writer Pat Lanni literally said Phoenix before the MSU game.

You do you. But don't you dare suggest that a family holiday get-together is no excuse for me, or anyone else, to miss a football game.
It’s more than that. 1. Maybe it’s important for the family that wants to see him on the holiday.2. For any game, attending, arrival time, and other decisions, are no one else’s business. Never judge.

I'll just say this. There are a few holidays in the winter, regardless of the type of job, college schedule, etc. that almost everyone can take time off without worry. Thanksgiving being one and Christmas and NYD being the other.

A game on the 26th will be and opportunity to gather with family and/or friends and extend Christmas celebrating by a day.

No need to be testy. Family works differently for everyone.

I’ve done crazier things then get up at 1
or 2am for a long drive, but not many lol. Under 9 hrs in good conditions. I briefly considered driving to this game to meet up with a family member.

Does anyone else think the idea of Michigan getting to the Pinstripe is ridiculous at this point?

Maybe if they were 6-6 coming off of getting their ass kicked by OSU.

As it stands now, why are any of the bowls below the Citrus and ahead of the Pinstripe going to pass on Michigan? It is a great national brand that they almost never have a chance at grabbing.

I thought the same thing. Michigan winning has to be a curve ball to all of this.

On one of the shows this weekend, one commentator thought Pinstripe would be good for Michigan considering the alumni numbers in NYC area. That aside, if I were a local Michigan fan, would prefer a better destination.

I don’t see any possibility they are available to the Pinstripe. Luckily, it won’t affect RU either way because supposedly the Pinstripe can’t take RU.

Yes. And I said so on The Round Table.

That was before the game. And the results.

Not entirely true according to our very good friend from Nebraska, @huskersalways

He said in another thread the repeat thing the B1G uses that supposedly protected us was thrown out the window this year because of the addition of the Pac12 schools.

Yes. When my parents were alive and my kids were young I flew out December 25 at like 10. Kids woke at 4 after a great family eve. Parents are gone, kids grown up. I’m headed west on the 20th lol
The defense rests. 🙄

On the topic of @huskersalways, he reported that Michigan was actually lobbying for the Pinstripe. Having just won a natty, their fan base was not interested in traveling to a minor bowl. And as noted, they have a huge NYC alumni base.

Of course beating the Bucks may have re-energized the fan base.

Yea ok. Guarantee I spend more time with my family than 99% of this board does. As I said, I hosted thicker day for last 20 years. Told my siblings this year I was out and going to egg bowl. My brother was annoyed because now he had to do the work. I got home last night. He was at ki house at 8am today with leftovers and to hang the deer my kid got hunting with him. I’m quite certain my family will survive not seeing me one day that week
Now I have to call him and tell him his cooking is for shit. Lol

You’ve been on this board long enough to know that next to schiano bitching bowl bitching used to be a close second. Near a holiday “oh my god how can I figure out travel”. Not near the holiday “how did these bowls experience ext us to take off days from work so close to the holidays”. So far from the holidays that neither of those is a concern. “Who wants to go to a bowl there against a sun belt team” etc etc etc

I'm just talking about you. 😎

And how good is that jr. LB from DePaul?

The Yankees are a national brand too, and the legions of Walmart Wolverines would surely fill The House That Ruth Built. I think the B1G should gift-wrap the fat squirrels a trip to the Bronx as a thank you.

Citrus jumps at chance to pair Michigan with Alabama. Bowl will sellout.

I dont think they have any “good” jr linebacker. I’ll ask them. Their best LB this year was a senior missed 1/4 season and is going to Chicago. Their LB play this year was not good.
