Deshawn Freeman MUST start playing under control

I like you, kyk, but...

Stick to football.
@RU-Choppin-Ohio so i guess for you guys since i said eugene was awful last year and admitted that this year hes really good that ill never have credibility in your eyes for being wrong once.

You guys really dont know basketball if you think freeman doesnt hurt us

Love you kyk.

But as said above, not the time or place for such a post.

Freeman was a warrior today.
16 boards - are you kidding me?
He played until he nearly dropped at about the 7-8 minute mark.

When a guy plays that hard and we have our biggest win since... I have no idea when. Villanova?
You can't come down that hard on the guy (especially today) and not expect blowback.

(And I do agree he sometimes forces the issue too much, but I don't give a F. We won!!!!)

Love the win but i view him as i viewed nigel last year. Next year will be addition by subtraction with him. He kills far too many offensive possessions

he couldve very well cost us this game. When he gets the ball downlow, he NEVER passes it out and cant help himself but chuck up something. Hes gotta stop shooting 3's. He was disasterous today.

Sure his stat line shows a double double but he almost killed us today and has done this against any quality opponent we play. Hes gonna cost us some games.

We needed SOMEONE to present a threat of scoring from the block: that would be Freeman.

Deshawn is ALL HEART / EMOTION. I LOVE HIS EFFORTS.

Without DF we don't win this game.

With him we will win > in the B1G. He's a banger...and grabbed 16 boards!

Well, that all depends on how Shaq (the new one) does replacing him.
Does he have offensive game?
idk

I just don't think it's necessary to come on the boards so strong with that take.
I think most RU fans (and players who might read this board) want to bask in maximum positivity today.

What we really need from YOU is to help get us a damn good OC!
:sunglasses:

Just a dumb statement that makes me question if you watched the game

You can question my @$$. I watched the game real time. And watched it again on BTN (it's available now).

WTF is your point?

Are you always a DICK...or do you have to work at it?

Youre saying we wouldnt have won a game without a guy who single handled robbed us of points on 13 possession. 13!!! 13 possessions we came away with zero points solely because of freeman. But we wouldnt have won without him? FOH

@kyk1827 I've been wrong a lot on this board. Your criticisms are way over the top. So, when you say a guy "literally cannot dribble", people are going to remember that and make fun of it. When you start a thread minutes after the biggest victory in years criticizing the guy that just had 12 pts and 16 rebounds.. ..IMO, it's silly.

You can see my thoughts on Freeman in my previous comment.

See thats your problem. Youre just looking at pts and rebs

How is it that kyk1827 can post this crap after a hard fought, program defining moment?

Maybe he is the friend that is mentioned on the football board (the one that vk needs to talk to about alcohol rehab)?

I loved Freeman's opening bucket after which he flexed for the student section.

Great stuff!
Even Crispin enjoyed it.

Kyk

Read my post ...it nails it

I get what you are saying, it’s not wrong but there are other factors

Plus, we need scoring from the four and five spot. He remains our best offensive player

Think this one is one of those that you made your point, it’s decent but way too strong, but just let it go.

And I’m pretty damn objective and I know the game if you see any of my posts

At least you are consistent on both boards.

Freeman played a great game. He neutralized a solid front court at Seton Hall and is giving up a lot of size in doing so. Great team effort and he did his share for sure.

I doubt we win this ame without him. Great effort and leadership. He’s not a whiny bitch like MO said. We need more Freeman and less kyk.

Just stop KYK. You sound dumb. We absolutely don't win this game without Freeman. He brings so much to this team. Yes he can be frustrating at times and yes he can and needs to be more efficient, but he is the heart and sole of this team and he does many things well. The jump hook at the six minute or so mark was IMO the biggest shot of the game.

I think the biggest shot of the game is a bit much but it was huge. It stemmed the tide and started our rally.

He’s a net positive player who takes ill advised shots against much bigger players. Love his heart. Also, he seems to have developed a nice half-hook that I wish he would use more.

I stepped out of this thread for the last 12 hours and I see its run it’s usual course.

The only thing I would say to those that seem insulted by the criticism is that for someone like me, I say it because I recognize how good a player he is and could be.

I mean this seriously. If he could clean up the forced post game, it could lead to a bunch more wins considering how close our games usually play out. He could be a difference between a NIT bid or not. He is so damn scrappy with the rebounding, he ends up with the ball in his hands down low so much, that if he helped create more scoring opportunities by passing, I think you could see this team average 6-8 more points a game.

I know Kyk delivers his message in a way that it’s hard to see the point sometimes. But those suggesting he can’t be criticized are wrong also.

Right after a win like yesterday, I don't think I can knock any player. In fact, at the bar I watched the game at in Red Bank, I told my brother "If Rutgers wins, I will buy myself that dessert. If Seton Hall wins, we will walk out of here."

I had an amazing dessert. Chocolate lava cake with great vanilla ice cream. I enjoyed it, and the team that made it possible.

Next day- There are trends about Freeman if you look at the year. Against top opponents, he forces, and tries to showcase his shots. His percentages are very low against top rated opponents. You know what is also there? Very strong rebounding games, a couple assist, some blocks, and low turnovers for a front court player. Just keeping it objective.

Let it be very clear that yesterday, the team does not win without Deshawn Freeman. You can be objective, but let's try to show the whole picture. Not just rip him for one part.

His hustle is great. He had 12 and 16. Go somewhere else with this nonsense.
Why can’t he continue to hustle, play with heart and great intensity rebound like a man possed and instead of trying to back down someone who is 5 inches taller and 20-30 pounds heavier kick the ball out to geo for a midrange jumper, or reset and see if the ball can be passed back in when the big has taken a step away to help

this, that's all. The rest is just great hard work and effort. As someone else said, just clean up that under the rim stuff and he's even better for us. But his non-shooting game was excellent yesterday.

This thread is absolute BS!

We just had one of the best wins in years and we are criticizing our captain that pulled down SIXTEEN REBOUNDS about his shot selection?

Give me a break.

16 boards is great but he shouldn't toss up bricks from 3 point land early in the shot clock with real shooters like Sanders, Baker, Williams or even Thiam on the floor.

This is basically my point. I'm not saying he's a bad player but he's been playing like a bad player due to his shot selection. If you clean shot selection and continues to rebound and play gritty then our team Will be vastly Improved.

I think it's insane to just say oh well, let's live with the good and the bad. **** that, let's cut out the bad which is very easy to do because it simply shot selection and look with the good

On the rebounds, I would love to see a stat of how many rebounds are on his own misses of chippies. Everything is good for DS, he just can't finish.
Yup, this too. There's some possessions where he will get stuffed by either the rim for his opponent three times and get the ball three times for three rebounds

I don’t think anyone is saying let’s just live with it. I think we all agree he can clean things up. Where we disagree is with how dramatic you are about his negative impact on the offense.

His hook shot when we were down 9 points was HUGE and i think a turning point in the game. Could've easily slipped away from us if he doesn't hit that shot. The thought that we don't win without him is insane. You say its not all about stats, but what about his defense against Delgado who was held to 7 pts on 3-9 shooting and only 2 free throws? What about his 5 offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive? What about getting to the line twice during one possession to tie it up?

You should’ve just presented your point like he did brotha. Everyone on this board knows what Freeman is and how much more efficient he could be if he just let the game come to him. Literally everyone. But he just played 30 minutes in our biggest win and you made an absolute statement that was not entirely true.

And let’s be honest you know what you’re doing when you post it that way. Not that there’s anything wrong with that it’s your style, but, not everyone is required to be receptive to your delivery.

We can criticize of players and a lot of plays. I don't do it and to me it shows lack of class to do what many did in this thread.

The win was based on Defense. That was a solid team and after a hot start we did a great job slowing the down.

I find it amusing that we shouldn't look at the 16 rebound stat but we should criticize the shooting percentage stats. Now that's some funny $hit.

Break it down a little. Every time he touched it down low SH gave help. He was making his player work to defend him and the SH front court got gassed. He absolutely out worked them. So while we want more shots to fall his play was effective. They would not double him if he was a bad player. He's a mismatch that can do some good things for us this year on both ends.

Some of our younger kids look very good. Should be a fun season away from this board.

I saw zero rebounds off his own missed shots, Tough to do when double teamed. Dumb but the OP agreed with you lol.

No, but it does seem you have a blind spot for this type player. Deshawn is a better Eugene. College basketball players are flawed. Guys who can put up 9/11 or 12/15 or 12/10 regularly, regardless of “style” are HUGE in CBB. And both Deshawn And Eugene are plus defenders, which is big for what we want to do.

Deshawn is better now, butEugene has more upside (in my opinion). But they are very similar players.

Kyk is right. Freeman needs to recognize when he needs to pass ball back out. We now have some guys who can hit from outside.
He sometimes makes the game too hard. Get the ball and see what your options are. If the start to collapse kick it out. If not go. He seems to make predetermined moves which often has him sending up out of control flailing shots.

But his hustle and rebounding make him a net positive. Just needs work in the offensive end.

I was at the game and also just rewatched it. Almost all of Freeman's shots were good shots to take (yes even the 3s he missed). I counted two forced shots that were ill-advised (did not consider any shot on which he got fouled a bad shot).

Yeah Baby has it right. You have to take the entirety of his contribution, including his misses down low that forced opposing bigs to double him and to work really hard.

Then when Eugene comes in fresher, he runs circles around their bigs and baffles them great moves underneath plus key rebounds, shots and put-backs, not to mention the steal and foul shots to seal it.
