Imagine for a second, that instead of playing Wisconsin and Nebraska the first 2 years in the B1G that RU would have played Purdue or Illinois. 2 sure fire losses with 2 sure fire wins (at least last year) Flood would presumably had a 10 win season and Rutgers would have probably have gone to its best bowl game ever and may have bought Flood a few years. Now even with the off the field mess putting Flood on thin thin ice with his only possible saving grace being a bowl season this season but instead of that hope there are those 2 guaranteed losses from the cross-divisional opponents. The on field mess will put a nail in the coffin in this situation but I wonder how different things would have been if the cross-divisional game impacted the situation at least a little bit with on field results as the general belief was still Flood could have saved his job with 6 wins but with the scheduling this year those inevitable losses will solidify the change.
