Based on the tough 8 games remaining and our current record, do you think Rutgers makes the NCAA tourney. Yes or No? (as of 2/5/2020)

Bumping this after the Maryland loss

I think we get in; we have a tough road ahead, but I think Pike has put us in a position to give us a chance, which is all we can ask for. We just have to take care of business at home.

.....I know it'd be tough but Win the game. It's cute to say the Iowa game out there was close but you have to prove you can win one of these.

I agree.

Maryland is undefeated at home and has more talent. Tough game. Illinois went to Iowa and lost.

I think the Iowa game is when he started paying attention. Not sure he’s aware of the Illinois game.

ESPN says even though we lost our last two, we are still a 7 seed. Obviously NW is a must win or we start to sweat.

can't answer without comparing teams in our bubble neighborhood...which teams are those ?

That ESPN bracket was last updated before our game last night. New bracket wont come until Friday. Doubt we stay a 7 seed.

I don't think we do. I think our absolute best case scenario is going 10-10 in big ten play. And if that occurs I think it'd have to be NW, Illinois and Michigan. That's a tall task.

On the road I can't see us winning at Ohio State (we should get blown out they can shoot the 3 and Wesson is going to embarrass myles like every good big has), Purdue (toughest court in the B1G maybe imo), Penn State (firing on all cylinders right now). MAYBE we can win at Wisconsin but even that seems improbable. I actually think we have a better chance of beating Wisconsin on the road than Illinois at home.

So lets say it plays out by what most analytics sites say where we finish 10-10 in conference with the 3 remaining wins coming against Illinois, Northwestern and Michigan. That would mean we lose 4 straight to end the regular season and most likely finish around 7th-8th in the big ten and therefore have to win at least one game in the big ten tourney to avoid 5 straight losses and yet another embarrassing result on the road/neutral site and finish our season 1-12 on the road or neutral sites and 10-11 in big ten games. I can't see us getting in the tourney with a resume like that.

Ultimately though, you lose Sunday, which wouldn't shock me one bit, then your season is over.

Until someone proves they can beat Rutgers at home, this is an easy yes. We will beat NW(1-6 road record, 145 BC), the other 3 home games are revenge road losses,

Illinois(4-4, 268 Grand Canyon , 31 Wisconsin, 38 Purdue, 34 Michigan) by 3 (PF 17-12)
Michigan(1-5, 170 Nebraska) by 6 (PF 21-12)
Maryland(2-4, 151 NW, 49 Indiana) by 5 (PF 20-10).

With favorable home whistles, they should beat all three (putting us at 20 wins), Illinois being the toughest, other 2 are shaky road teams. They will learn to finish and win at least 1 road game before the end of the year will put us at 21, they are due for an Iowa road win like last year. Any talk of "I only see 1 or 2 wins the rest of the way" is ridiculous. At worst, they go 3-5, even that is a stretch. All it will take is one A game to get them back on track, everyone will sing a different tune.

They are still 10-4, last 14 games, with losses on the road to #9 Md., #17 Iowa, #20 Illinois and neutral to Michigan.

Absolutely need the next 2.. losing either indicates big problems

winning both we should be able to take care of business down the road..

vs NW 2/9 W 17-7
@ OSU 2/12 W 18-7
vs Ill 2/15 W 19-7
vs Mich 2/19 W 20-7
@ Wisc 2/23 L 20-8
@ PSU 2/26 L 20-9
vs MD 3/3 W 21-9 (and that gets us in)
@ Pur 3/7 W or L prolly doesn't matter

But you can see how touch and go this is.. we could easily lose 2 of the next 4..

We might go 3-5 or 5-3 the rest of the way...

If it is 3-5 we end up 20-12 and then I'd think we need a win in the Big Ten Tourney.. and that will be hard. 20 wins is not a guarantee bid.. may depend who we beat and how we beat them and also when.

Someone mentioned "bubble neighborhood".. I think we may be done in by conference affiliation.. Last year it was a record 8 teams for the Big Ten. Can we be one of the 8?

The Big East once got in 11 of 16... but tops for the Big Ten has been 8. Can we get 9 or 10? There will be a lot of friction from committee members associated with other conferences/regions.

We are currently number 6 in Big Ten at 7-5.. but if we end up 10-10 where will we be?

Last year Iowa was 10-10.. finished 6th and got in.. and 2 Big Ten teams with losing conference records got in.

Hmmm.. that gives me some level of confidence.

Amen!!!!! But many on this board think it doesn’t matter.

I voted yes. I was on your bandwagon before the season started. No reason to change now.

The only troubling part, as you know, is all but one win is at home. Need to knock off one or two away games.

6 Big Ten teams have 1 win or less away.
2 more have 2 away wins
4 more have 3 away wins

We have Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Purdue away.

I think it has to be Ohio State. We have been soo close in a number of road games.

Every close away game loss against a Big 10 opponent was against an upper echelon team. I'm confident that we will get a win or 2 on the road.

NCAA history isn’t on our side.

Not sure where I read, but I saw no team has made the NCAA tournament as an at large with less than 5 away/neutral site wins.

We’d be the first.

These kids are too young to understand what we feel as long time fans. As a fan base we are pessimistic; these kids don't really know what it means to lose. They don't like this taste in their mouths...I actually think these 2 games will light a fire under them. They have the potential to beat any team in this league on any court.

Just a follow up on this. When i first posted this poll about 4 hours before the START of the Maryland game, the poll results were roughly 75% Yes 25% No, A few days later after the Maryland game it's come down to about 63% yes, 37% no at current.

Where do Rutgers fans see us as a lock to win 4-5 games in the next 3+ weeks... can see 2-3 which means you need to win at minimum another in the B1G tourney... if shooting woes continue we end up in the NIT...more realistic and certainly more along the preseason thought process... would love to be wrong.

So just have to beat a top ten team in Maryland...no big deal. The fact that Maryland may have clinched a bid at at point might help...

Bumping this thread... we have nearly 150 votes collected and it's currently 65% YES 35% NO.

With 7 games left after last night's win... please vote, or revote (change your vote) if your opinion has changed.

Thanks
