Drinking long and deeply (by a PSU writer no less)

2 wins in the tournament for a total of 18 wouldn’t put us on the bubble like that blogger thinks, but 3 wins (loss in championship game) for a total of 19 would put us on the bubble. I don’t know how to handicap it but we’d have a decent shot of being selected if that happened.

If we win the next two, and two more in the tourney, we'd be 18-15. Looking at the current league standings, we'd be the 10 seed and face Ohio State as the 7, then Michigan as the 2, then lose (likely to MSU as the 3). That'd be 3 more Quadrant 1 wins, a Quad 2 win, and a Quad 1 loss.

That'd bring our overall resume to:
Q1: 5-9
Q2: 7-3
Q3: 1-1
Q4: 5-1

If Fordham somehow wins out and grabs some wins in their tourney to lift that to a Q3 loss, that is at least bubble discussion worthy - though I don't think we'd even make the First Four Out.

Folks pump the brakes. It’s been a nice season with above expectation results! Please don’t ramp up things now. Or even next y at and get pissed things aren’t moving linearly and faster. Just enjoy the success. Even if RU loses out it’s still a successful campaign.

Rutgers wins out, shocks the world. Gets into the field of 68 with a conference championship and 20-14 record.

I can dream!

Hasn't being a Rutgers fan taught you anything? After every set of big wins comes an even bigger WTF loss!

2002 Basketball - After winning three straight against top 25 opponents late in the season and taking care of business against Seton Hall, Rutgers lost to VaTech to close out the regular season and BC in the first round of the BE Tourney to miss out on what should have been a shoe-in berth to the NCAA Tournament.
2004 Football - Beat Michigan State on opening day, lose to 1AA New Hampshire the following week.
2006 Football - Beat #3 Louisville to get to 9-0 and a top 10 ranking, lose to Cincinnati the following week.

These are just the first few examples that come to mind. I can keep going but I'll save myself and you the pain of reliving these awful memories... OK, I'll do one more.. after re-reading your post, you're going to need more convincing to pump the brakes.

2012 Football - Start the season 7-0, lose to Kent State at home.

That being said, I hope you're right! :)

Wow, power ranking of #5 in the B1G, by this writer’s estimation. Not saying I agree (I would put us at 7 the way we’re playing now), but it says something, that any objective observer could think we’re that good.

Exactly! This was the reason why I posted the original message. Not that I thought we deserved to be #5 in the ranking but rather that we are no longer considered a given at the bottom.

To those people saying pump the brakes, I say let people drive as fast and crazy as they want. The important thing is to enjoy the ride. Absolutely nothing wrong with doing that even when it ends in the most likely scenario of us looking in from the outside of both the NCAA and NIT.

I glad the writer said upfront that he was subbing for the regular guy who was overseas somewhere.

Probably watched the Iowa game on Saturday. Anyone who viewed it would think highly of RU after witnessing that contest. Rutgers looked like an NCAA tournament team.

#5 in anyone's power rankings of the B1G is pretty freaking awesome. It's all about getting hot at the right time. A bunch of teams in the B1G seem to be fading or at least not as scary as they were earlier in the season. It's anyone's tournament as there is no super elite team that no one can beat. Let's make an epic run. There is just something special about this team. Let's dream B1G

This has to end sometime and I say why not now!

FWIW one guy on BTN today didn't see us winning either of the next 2

Love this team, but let's cut the crap with all this bubble talk!

Can I triple-like this? I mean, come on people. Get a clue.

AFTER beating Iowa, we're 98 in the NET rankings. Considering how many teams well worse than that will get auto bids to both tournaments, we're barely on the NIT bubble IF we do what this guys says. Barely.Get to the final, and maybe in the discussion. Maybe.

Gotta admit, I chuckled at "the conferences haves, have-nots and Northwestern" line.
