According to coachingsearch.com:

D.J. Durkin’s contract is a five-year deal worth $2.5 million annually, according to the Washington Post. Durkin will receive a one-time rollover amount of $2.65 million after the first year.

I am not sure what a "rollover" is, just a bonus payment?

It doesn't appear that all that Under Armour money was as big a factor as we thought it might be.

The 2.5M average is about what you'd expect for a first time coach at the P5. I'd say anything from 1.5-2.5M is normal and the amount of experience/success/pockets of the school you land at all can affect where you end up in the range. High midmajor guys who have done well can make around 3.5M range like say a Fuente/Herman or Petersen/Meyer/McElwain when they stepped up.

However, if that rollover is some sort of retention bonus given after a year, that seems a bit much. If you amortize that out over the 5 years of the contract it becomes 3M/year. That is too much for a P5 coordinator to P5 HC IMO.

Maryland was prepared to spend 6 million on Chip Kelly or someone on that level, whatever the market value was.

So we spend 2.5 on DJ. The staff will be well paid.
