At the end of the day, if more bowls mean more money, there will be more bowls. End of story. Capitalism is at work here. It's all about the Benjamin's! Non-profit my ass.

THAT's the solution, not getting rid of bowl games. Letting every team practice for two weeks in December would help the lesser teams. While the bowl teams are practicing specific game plans with their current team geared toward beating their bowl opponent, the non-bowl teams can have most of next year's team (no seniors allowed to practice once their game eligibility is used up) getting extra practice to help them develop for next year's regular season. It's not that, at all, it's about teams who have lousy seasons being "rewarded" for them. If a 5-7 team is going to get 2 extra weeks of practice then, IMHO, ALL teams should get it.
The Super Bowl is 27 days after the CFB Championship and the NFL season starts 7 days later (20 days shorter) and the NFL has the shortest season of the major professional sports. The college basketball season is longer than the college football season (18 weeks to 15 weeks respectively) with the "March Madness" tournament lasting nearly 4 weeks, which is the length between the first college bowl game to the Championship game (with a week off after the regular season to allow every bowl team to get 2 extra weeks of practice). College baseball begins in early February with the College World Series ending at the end of June, which is about 20 weeks, or roughly the same number of weeks in college football and baseball is a "non revenue sport".While I'd love more games, in fairness, it's probably the longest season time wise.
I actually agree that a losing record should not get you a bowl and not big on 6 win teams either but...it is still fun to watch.
7 wins- yes, you do deserve a bowl. Cracks me up that the ones that just said no to a 7 win team and who liked the comment, were most likely storming the field in 05 and had a blast in Arizona.
