For the "staintards"

No stain? Can't close?
So, everyone wanted JG or Haskins- we got a guy who is every bit as good and was on top of the board with both those guys.
RB- Walker...I still like this kid but not sure if he is a 5 star #1 RB in the nation. We got the early from Snned
WR - Mitchell was a sure thing 3 year and out cant miss WR. Seems to not still hold that reputation. Mack/Wright...Are they much further behind? Does Harmon come back into the fold?
TE- not a need but all of a sudden Haskins is back in the mix
OL- Krimin/EJ and up there with Pridgeon and Niang?
DL- Hewit/Oliver- outside of Gary, looks like Flood got guys HE wanted
LB- Got who we wanted. Nuff said
DB- Campbell/Rene- going to get another top of the board guy soon(Flood put the stain bomb on OSU with Rene.
K- yes, kicker! Killed it

Who still feels this guy doesn't have so called stain or can't close?

I think he's doing just fine. Win enough games to get to a bowl this year, keep the '16 class together and things just get better from there.

Why do you do this to yourself...lol

You're definitely waving the red cape in front of the proverbial bull here ;)

Busting chops aside my biggest concern is ensuring that we have a good season on the field. I agree that this class is really really good. You know that from my posts on the premium board. The only thing that potentially hurts us is having a stinker of year. While in the past I had similar concerns due to the caliber of our coaching staff (that's a shot at GS even though I love the guy for what he did here) I am worried about that this year given the toughness of our schedule.

I think we can really turn the corner with this program if we can have a good year on the field this year because this class is going to be very very good.

Fingers crossed!!

I take the long term approach.....as the years go by and kids that are 10 to 13 years old enter high school, they would have seen and heard about RU being a big 10 team, playing in front of 50 thou plus at home, and know only that about us.....the kids we are recruiting now have only seen a short cycle....we need the younger ones to ONLY have that RU experience, not the aac one....

once we compete better, and we will, that is all these kids will know about us....then, the home grown ones that singled us out early, as you mentioned here, might stay with us

The key as was just mentioned above is WIN...WIN as many games as needed...hold the class together for 2016...sell the RUTGERS vision.

Why does the OP have to flame here?? Just post about how you think Flood is doing an awesome job and most will agree with you. By doing it the way you did it, you're just trying to maintain an us vs. Flood mentality in a small, but vocal part of our fan base. Stop making people choose sides please. Same goes for the upcoming QB battle.

I give Kyle a lot of credit for having the balls to take a stand now and get the class filled with very solid kids out of state while New Jersey recruits continue to use Rutgers as a fall back and dawdule. Sad thing is a decent number of the kids leave and realize after the fact they could have everything they want and play here.

One of the things that will change this is Making a Rutgers football scholarship value increase to in state high school players is send a message we really want jersey kids but we will not bias and give special consideration cause you are from a jersey. Equal player, regardless of where they are from...gets the spot

Think this will pay off down the line

Flood's shtick seems to go over fine outside of NJ. Not sure the top NJ prospects are listening at all. In the end, the play on the field will determine everything...as it always does.

Yes, you forgot Hayes who may actually be Rene's equal.

There are still recruiting issues. He needs to get more of the best NJ kids to come here. He needs to win more recruiting battles. However this class is turning out to be real real good. I really feel the if we get Pridgeon then I will make the argument that this class is close to just about anyone in the B1G.

Loyalty- there is a reason I did bring it up on the free board and not the RT. It is not so much to flame but for how long did we have to hear "no stain and can't close"? and the point I am trying to make, maybe he didn't close the kids we wanted and who it now seems never wanted to be here in the first place but he had stain enough and able to close their equals or near equals.

For the record, i totally agree with you and think Flood is the man. What I am getting at is that the small but vocal group of people who you are speaking to is only going to come at Flood harder and harder when you flame or bait them like this.

Are you familiar with the concept of "recon by fire"?

Just me!
I can't stand the "so Flood has no stain and can't recruit...right" posts.
I have no idea what purpose they serve, even after Yes01 explained his reasoning, I still don't understand?
Please explain to me what's wrong with
Flood is doing a great job with the 16 class, so let's win and keep this class together!
How in the world can anyone argue with that?

Zap- they are dwindling but still here. Anyway, my real point is that many like to speak in absolutes when have no clue. I still really don't know what they meant by stain anyway. But he had closed on the likes of Sneed, Pollock, Jabbie, Krimin pretty early and still, because some of the NJ "Elite@ had vertually no interest in Rutgers, he couldn't close.
The class he has put together has "top of the board" kids at every position. Even QB. Even I thought it was crazy for Russo to have a commitable offer before Haskins/JG decided. Shows what I know too. Flood has proven himself even more to me this year and as you know, I have never waive red from my support of him. Never blind support but what I knew of him.

This class is actually as good as our "dream team" would have been...

How is the 'stain' working out for the top NJ kids???

Last year close to February and the end of the recruiting period, one super positive Rutgers fan said that the 2015 recruiting class was the BEST Rutgers recruiting class EVER. I told him to get real considering we were 10th rated in the Big Ten. Some fans try to beat me up. Yes, this is a good class which I don't see many criticizing, however, this is one class and FLood needs to keep it up for the next few years.

Which wasn't the point of the thread, in any way.

It's probably a good thing the NCAA isn't as good at moving the goal posts as our fans are.

Relax and give it 7 to 10 years and we will win in this league and get NJ recruits. Just not yet.

It doesn't matter. The preoccupation with "top NJ kids", while commendably obsessive, is nonetheless pointless.

I don't see how it is pointless. If we want RU to be a consistent top 25 program, we'll need to land a fair share of NJ top talent.

That's not even remotely logical. Or true.

Do other consistent top 25 programs rely on NJ talent? No. They rely on quality talent. It makes zero difference where it comes from.

Relying on NJ talent seems nice, but a fair share of top talent from anywhere is the way to build a winning program.
Then a fair share of the top in state talent will want to be part of the RU FB program.

Remember when RU was first gaining respect as a FB program , it was out of state talent that made respectability happen.

As far as I am concerned, NY and NJ should be part of the same sentence. Counting both, we have quite a nice haul from in state. North Jersey and NYC have more in common than South Jersey which is more like PA than the rest of the state.

What is the biblical quote, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country?" Something like that? Rutgers is not highly valued by people in New Jersey, and the attitude of many of the elite NJ high school athletes reflects this. We are more highly regarded out of state. So I agree with Shack that finding the best 20 or so players regardless of where they are from is the best course of action. Recruit our own, of course, but take the ones who really want to be here. The hometown kids may learn to value Rutgers more when they realize we won't hold a spot for them indefinitely. Scarcity creates value. If Coach Flood continues to win, the local kids will come around. Or they won't have a chair when the music stops.

So Zap, this is what I am talking about. Though we can show the talent coming in is in the same class of many top BJ kids, it always comes back to this.

I think most of us would love to see the local kids stay home but also, let's be honest, I think Flood is showing that if they don't, he ain't waiting around. There is a lot of talent out there.

I doubt he would have even been mentioned it had you not phrased the OP as you did.

I've been preaching this to friends for about 2 years. Give it time, I agree with you100%.
Thanks for posting!!

The point of the OP was to say that our coach can have this so called stain and ability to close and still not get the top NJ kids if they just want to get away. And even without them, we can still close on a very good class.

I really like the class coach Flood and the staff are building. It doesn't matter to me whether the players are from NJ or out of state. In the end, this is looking like a very good class.

Zap, don't forget that last season we had a small minority of "fans" who were actively rooting for us to lose with the result that Flood would be fired.
