Alright guys no need to mock the sports pope I will be there tomorrow cannot wait to finally meet my hero (will be decked out in Rutgers gear of course). You guys can make fun of him As much as you like but remember, mikes rich and makes more than you...and he'll be the first to tell you that

Let's get a large group there and keep bombarding him with Rutgers sports questions. I am thinking seriously of doing this.

I remember when Bar A was actually in Belmar. I also remember going there in the late 70s on Saturday afternoons and there was an inside bar with music. Then there was a small outside bar in the "backyard" with about a dozen seats. By the early - mid 80s, the outside bar had turned into a huge gathering area with several large bars. I haven't been there in many decades..so have no idea what it looks like now.

Who went?

They'd still be there no? We'll have to wait a little while but will be interested too. Doubt he'll entertain RU inquiries other than to make fun.

Watching it for years on TV, usually the only positive from that day is Southside. Wouldn't walk across the street to see Mike these days.

I thought Bar A has always been in what was previously called South Belmar, and they renamed the town to Lake Como to set themselves apart from Belmar, because, Lake Como is so much nicer than Belmar. [laughing] We lived on the border, and there is nothing to distinguish the two towns except Lake Como has no beach front and they seem to have a little brother complex.

Bar A has been in the same spot for as long as I've lived in Belmar. Knight Shift is right in that Lake Como was called South Belmar up until a few years ago, although it was the town's original name which is why the sign reads something like 1924.

I'm pretty sure the movement to change the town name was helped by both residents who were upset at being known for bars like Bar A and the bars themselves!

Was there. Got him to sign my Rutgers shirt...I asked him if he would start talking Rutgers if they beat Ohio State...his response "in your dreams kid"

Sounds like RU was not well represented at Bar A today. But for sure we have a lot of Mike Francesa fans on this board. We hate him but listen to him non stop.

I wonder if that means he's giving Rutgers no chance to beat Ohio State? Or is he saying he still isn't going to talk about Rutgers even if they do?

Actually, now that I think about it, probably both.

I remember Bar A in the 80s... youused to be able to go there to avoid guidos.. they had volleyball outside... inside on Wednesdays they had this thing... hmm.. Selectrocution? Some kind of LED Ribbon board where you could get messages typed.. I think people wore numbers so you could direct your comment to someone by their numbers... not numbers.. maybe letters and number.. initials? Something short. you wrote the message on a paper with who it is intended for.. their handle.. and hand it in and wait for it to scrawl.... rather than actully walking across the room to talk to the girls... was funny at times as people would try to stretch the boundaries.. but also goofy.

Hmmm.. there should be an app for that.
