I attended the FSU/Virginia game last night. Enjoyable game to watch. Also nice to see players knock down 3 pointers. A few observations.

1. Given that it was a top 25 FSU team vs #2 Virginia, arena only about 60% full; FSU arena holds 12000. Student turnout was very good. I expected a sell out. Surprised by the attendance.

2. Overall atmosphere was fun but nothing different than what we see at RU games. Loudness was comparable to RAC.

3. Pep band was impressive. Roughly 100 students in pep band.

4. Leonard Hamilton not a great coach, or at the very least had a bad game. For example, FSU down 2 under 2 minutes and FSU shooting fouls. Did not have any FSU lined up to rebound a missed free throw. My opinion, FSU lost because they were undisciplined at times.

5. Nigel was a DNP.

6. RU game officials showed up in 2nd half. At one point they made calls on 10 straight possessions.

Yeah , I saw FSU was up 10 at half scoring 32 in the first half , which was the most Virginia has given up in a half all year, but they must have clamped down in second half as FSU only scored 23. Cofer of FSU was quoted in post game saying Virginia’s pack line defense was confusing making them hesitant shooting and disrupting their flow and rhythm.
Nigel has been suspended for 3 games and that explains your DNP .

What is frustrating is that our Rutgers team full strength played toe to toe with FSU who just took the soon to be Number 1 team in the country to the wire and unfortunately our inconsistency results in many other losses.

Nigel Johnson was suspended for 3 games for violation of team rules. This would be his 1st or 2nd game suspended, I think.

FSU only sells out for Duke and North Carolina. Even when they host Florida they only get about 80 percent full and that's thanks to Gators fans making the 2 1/2 hour drive.

FSU hit 4 of their first 5 3-pt shots which gave them early lead. Something like 2-20 rest of way.

I agree Hamilton is a terrible game day coach having watched them very closely for the past 7 years since 2 of my daughters went to FSU. One thing I though is that football would sell out every game but it doesn't; Now granted they get more fans than RU but if they don't have a good opponent they don't sell out and the students don't come out for those games!!

They need an on campus arena. It's amazing they draw as much as they do.

That wouldn't change anything.

The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center is 5 minutes away from Doak Campbell Stadium.

Basketball just is not that important to the Florida State fan base. Hell, baseball gives it a really good run for fan support.

Civic Center while not "on campus" but it is a short walking distance from campus. Parked there and walked to football stadium for a game this past fall.

Exactly. You can almost throw a rock from the Civic Center parking lot and have it land on campus
