GAME 16 PURDUE: I don't care anymore

Well yeah I will still use my tickets this year and go to the RAC but that lovin feelin for this program is gone gone gone. A complete horror show in 16 episodes. It was gone weeks ago but now we can officially bury this corpse of a season and please please can some of you holding out hope have some dignity and just LET IT GO already. This is a bad team. They are not well coached. They have two very talented players and little else. They do not do anything as a unit which constitutes a team. There is no DREAM BIG DREAMS from 89 coming nor a 91 turnaround leading to a conference championship. In fact they are getting progressively worse with each game and now have lost 8 of their last 12. Going bac 2 last season Coach Pikiells team has lost 15 of their last 24......RUTGERS HAS LOST 15 OF THEIR LAST 24 BASKETBALL GAMES....it hasnt been brought up here people havent been paying attention but the program is in FREEFALL.

Ive moved beyond Rutgers will miss the NCAA for the 3rd consecutive season and now focused on how Pikiell gutted the program by making a deal with the devil. 2 one and dones and for what....to sit 17th place in the Big 10. Its beyond comprehension. Complete and utter failure on all levels and now where the hell does the program go from here. Pike will be back next year unless he steps aside. However now even I have moved towards the idea that if next year isnt a success that will be it. I do not see a 2nd year after coming. I do not care what the contract says. Thius is real bad folks. 15 games left and yes this abyss can get lower. My strategy is to care less and less about this team which right now is my least favorite team since Jordans last so about a decade. There is little to like about this team because it is not a TEAM. It is some funky amalgamation of one and dones, should not be here, never was, and do not cares. Not what we were promised and not something I am interested in investing my emotions toward.

I do not have the answers but tonight was complete garbage for a 9th year coach to have his team put out that kind of feeble performance and taking a giant leap backwards to the Fred Hill error in terms of excitement. It makes me not want to care and that is where I am at right now. A season lost and unrecoverable and the cherry on the top is that any legit talent isnt coming back. The 2 guys that matter are gone and anyone left are simply not good enough to build around. Thats the conundrum...just what is next, what is the program building for and how can it even take a beath of life in the next 2 and half months

I will keep watching…because I can’t help it…bad addiction to RU sports. But it’s definitely lost the fun. Even the players are not having fun. In fact, they don’t even really look like they are competitive people at times. I know that’s not true, and they are competitive, but they sure don’t show it. Seems the team is as miserable as most of us fans. Perception of the program and coach will be super low if they don’t turn it around somehow and fight for wins…finish the season with some momentum. Not really expecting that, but it would be my hope or the damage will be lasting.

Immediate Future is concerning, there is not 1 player you want back, or may be back, and that is ok. But to have any success next year with the signed freshman and maybe 8? New low level low budget portal players… ya, it’ll be another long year, just without expectations

We’re not a program and have never been a program that relies on two stars to carry. Pikiell always been a team guy…this year is certainly not good..but again..to say our program is “gutted” is ridiculous. That’s the issue

Who cares?? Pikiell is a coach that develops and doesnt need star recruits. His best seasons heave been with under the radar guys, that’s what he will need to get back to

I almost didn't include Lathan, but he is a big man with offensive skill and that has value

Freshman bigs take time to develop typically and he lost a ton of weight. An off season of putting on more muscle and reshaping his body. A year of development. He could end up being a real asset

We got completely bullied tonight. Refs allowed a physical game, and we folded like a cheap suit - took constant hits, and didn't give back anywhere close to what we got from a physicality/grit/fight perspective.

Team caved mentally in this one.

Credit to Smith - cagey vet, great passes, set up his teammates well. Davis will probably have bruises to his chest from Smith's elbow/forearm all first half, and plenty of rage at all the jersey grabbing and offensive-line-screens - but Smith played the style of game that was being allowed tonight and took Rutgers to school.

Our offense was lost in the woods all game. No ball movement, no moving without the ball, risky passes, bad shot selection. Derkack's ability to draw fouls is very limited in a game where a ton of contact is allowed on penetration - there were not going to be any bail out whistles in this game, and he got crushed in the paint again and again.

Sommerville, Ogbole and Grant were completely lost defensively on the pick and roll and got beat again and again and again. It was like Purdue found an exploit in a video game - just hit the same button combination each time down and get good looks near the rim. We were constantly out of position and chasing all game - no team defense, or any sense of where to be, when to help, or how to recover. Just brutal defensively.

I don't know where the season goes from here. NCAA tourney is out. Chances of getting over .500 are rapidly dwindling. Harper, Bailey, Acuff, Hayes, Martini all gone after this season... and fair chance the portal claims several more. 2025-26 will again be starting from scratch with a new group of guys who have never played together before, and we'll be back to where we started this year.... minus two lottery picks.

I agree with every sentiment you articulated except that we would have to deal with this dumpster fire for 2.5 more months….then I checked the schedule and realized the season ends 3/9.

It only not gutted because we have 2 lottery picks, but I’m not sure they aren’t losing interest as much as the fans. With the rest of the talent, I’d say it’s pretty much gutted.
