This way too early, but with all speculation to who is going too what weight next year, could Giraldo make it too 157 lbs. He's got the height, and certainly is strong enough too compete there,I was thinking

125: McCabe
133: Del
141: Ash
149: Theo
157: Giraldo
165: Maybe Dippery( Lewis redshirt)

I'm just talking out my ass,and maybe it is wishful thinking, but could that be the line up next year?

The only thing I see here is Dippery is starting to look pretty good at 149.. I think he would be overmatched at the higher weights. Little to weak. It's going to be tough to make everyone happy.

Creed, let me talk out my ass also.

125: McCabe
133: Del
141: Ash
149: Theo / Dippery / Giraldo (best man up)
157: Lewis / Giraldo (the more I think about it, I would let Lewis wrestle and not redshirt. He worries me if not competing)
165: Van Brill / Pagano

I am NOT expecting to be a top 10 dual team next year (or the year after for that mater). But I am OK with that as long as we get recruiting years like this one. If we do keep up with recruiting (like this year) RU will be in great shape going forward. In my opinion we had 2 sub par recruiting classes before this one (Gentile leaving didn't help) and that will cause a down year or two. I think a down year is still a top 20 year but just more like a 15-20.

I just don't see Giraldo wrestling above 149. He's tall and wiry and I don't think he has the horsepower to tangle with the 157s. I think we'll probably see Giraldo backing up Ashnault at 141 next year. I also think Lewis is a perfect fit for 157. If Theobald can hold 149 then I think he should because he'll be a beast. I think we'll see either Giraldo or Ashnault move up to 149 the following year. Just my opinion.

I see Theo at 157 and Giraldo and Dippery wrestling off at 149. Dippery is improving weekly and should not be counted out. Depth is a beautiful thing. $$$$

Dollarbill, I agree with you regarding Theo wrestling at 157 next year. Does that mean Lewis takes a redshirt? I also agree with Dippery and Giraldo wrestling off for the 149 spot. I think Van Brill is a good candidate for the 165. Not sure how Pagano and Painton are progressing, but they may be an option. It looks like 165 will be one of the weaker weights along with 197 and Hwt. The rest of the lineup looks strong! Could we see an incoming freshman vie for one of the spots? If so, who would you like to see?

line up is going to be a tight fit from 133-157. at least 5 quality wrestlers for 4 spots. but that's why the pay the coaches the big bucks!

Agree with everything you stated. I would like to see Mulligan and Correnti both redshirt but they may end up starting. Perhaps the staff is not done recruiting at the two upper weights. $$$$

Dollarbill..I agree.I think Correnti is ready right away.I do think they will redshirt him eventually. The kid is an animal..period.He's tall ( about 6'3 or taller) and has the frame too be a solid 250-260lber or even bigger. So technically sound, incredible gas tank, and he absolutely hates to loose.Heavy and 197 are big if's next year.Although I hear the MacDonald kid is doing very well.Might be Kremiller at 197,and MacDonald at heavy, with Mulligan and Correnti too redshirt.I really wish they would just implement a 220lb class already.Would be nice too see Kremiller,Normandia and MacDonald. Are we going after DelVecchios brother?? That kid is going too be a force next year.Don't be surprised if he makes it too the finals or at least a t top 4 finish.

No way you sit Lewis. He has a legit shot at a National Title at 157. If Theo can't make 149, then he should go 165.

I don't see Theo going 57 let alone 65....nor Lewis going up to 65... I know we want to see everyone wrestle...But lets not talk about trying to fit square pegs into round holes...Top programs have top kids at each weight along with top backups at some...@ yrs ago Iowa had Gilman and Clark both at 125...Last couple years Penn St. had 3 top 20 guys at 285, including 2 top 10 guys...This year at 165 they have 3 guys who are pretty much top 20 guys in Shakur, Morelli, and Hammond...

If no one can make 165 and Lewis doesn't RS we are going to have 6 good guys for 4 spots from 33-57. I think wrestling Theo this year would have been the better option if we have 2/6 guys as backup.

Theobold earned his redshirt, and I don't see any strategic reason no to let him take it this year. basically all the changes is Dippery is likely a back up next year instead of this year.

i could understand more the idea that Giraldo should have started his true freshman year over DelVecchio, have Del take the RS last year and start this year as Giraldo shirts and bulks up for a bigger weight, but too late for that now.

So you're expecting Theo to go 149, and force Dippery and Giraldo to the bench.

Did Theo make All-American? Otherwise, What exactly did he earn?

Yea, I am expecting whoever wins the 149lb spot the other two are on the bench. What are you expecting? That is D1 wrestling. 125-McCabe, 133-Del, 141-AA, 149-Theo(I think he beats both handily), 157-Lewis.

I, too, am speculating. But one thing is for sure, this team can be really good. If they figure out 197 and HWT.
Maybe we could start Mulligan and/or Correntti right away if they are ready to go. Theres no written rule that all freshmen wrestlers need to RS first. Look at McFadden at VT and theres countless others that can start as true freshmans.

I fully expect Correnti and Mulligan to start. Both guys are Elite Blue Chippers. Fully capable of starting Day 1.

I don't think it matters. I wouldn't expect either kid to perform well in the B10 conference.

If you're not a kid with a Top 20 ranking in High school, Rutgers should not be an option.

Rankings are an imperfect science. ..also very subjective. ..they can't take into account development in a program which is why I would rather see them in a college program before I anoint or write someone off

I remember Mike Wagner from South Plainfield out there as a true freshman wrestling fifth year seniors at 197. A real tough assignment for an upper weight. Add in the academics of college and it's a lot to ask. Of course, it depends on the individual. Glad they are both on board either way. $$$$

Algorithms are imperfect tools however they are in fact quite reliable.

And according to those "algorithms" Mike Grey, Scott Winston, and Andrew Campolatanno were supoosed to win multiple Nat. Championships.... How many have they won? I mean c'mon man, ivan's written off McDonald....WHO HAS YET TO WRESTLE A COLLEGE MATCH! Do you realize how hard it is to take you seriously when you make comments like that?

i'm unaware of any high school wrestler ranking that utilizes an algorithm. would be interested in learning more about any that exist.

Clearly you're conflating algorithm with popular opinion. Btw, Grey was an All-American at Brown. As for Winston and Campolatanno, What do they have in common? Both careers ended ignominiously under the auspices of Coach Goodale.

seriously? You're putting Camp's career on Goodale and not Ohio State and Coach Ryan?

every program has blue chips that don't pan out. which algorithm are you referring to that is better at picking recruits than the "popular opinion" of rankings provided by services like Flo or Intermat?

Just stating the facts. Both Winston and Campy wrestled for Goodale. Btw, Picking recruits is different than Ranking them.

Campallotano underperformed because of Goodale. Now I have heard everything.

And no, you are not stating facts. Campallotano was done wrestling before he ever got to Rutgers. Goodale simply gave him a shot to re-commit to the sport, when no one else would.

So not only do you not have your facts straight... But now you want to try and turn this into a Goodale shitshow? Seriously? Can you not just own up to the fact that you made a dumb, baseless comment?

So what if their careers ended under Goodale? You could say that about several D1 programs.Look at Chance Marsteller and John Smith.Did anyone say "oh,John Smith is a bad coach at developing his athletes",like people have done too Goodale? No,they didn't.They blamed the wrestler and his issues. If anything,Scott should be praised for taking in Camp and giving him another shot, when no other coach did.Plus,I remember when Mario Mason's career was failing and Scott basically didn't let him wrestle, but kept him on the team and sidelines, out of respect for his athlete. That's a standup, classy man! Why do think we are at a top 10 ranking?Because people see the passion and fire in Goodale and staff, that truly believed in this program from day 1.You can't really say Winston's career was shot.He finished up,plagued with numerous injuries and won an EIWA title. As for Camp, like others have said, his career was over before he got here.If anything,Camp under performed and was in more trouble under Tom Ryan at Ohio St.Blame Tom Ryan then ,for not controlling his athlete.I think we all have gotten past the Winston/Camp controversy..it happens, and it may happen again, but who gives a shit? We have a great team,we have great coaches and we have blue chip recruits.I think that is pretty much self explanatory.

however you cut it, we got to where we are with Goodale. and seeing the team from the distance (TV or from my seats), it's clear that these wrestlers representing RU get along well with each other. they are always together, talking, smiling, cheering, and celebrating...tighter than some other teams. the culture Goodale has developed for our team is great!

Can we be better? absolutely! but to be top 10 feels so good, esp. as a fan of Rutgers who follows football and bball (ouch).
