A: Those Stony Brook/Hartford games . . . .

B: Among other things the Wisc game showed us how tough things are gonna be in-conference: thanks in part to our defense (but he also missed some easy ones) Happ had a very bad game; Corey was freakin' brilliant; UW shot 12% from 3; we shot 62.5%(!) from 3. We beat a bottom-of-conference team in a nailbiter.

I think Rutgers surpasses Wisconsin with Pikiell from the 2019 season and doesn’t look back. I feel the same about Iowa.

What happened to Doorsan? Is he injured or just didn’t play because he’s not playing well? I don’t think he’s on the team next year as well as Bullock which opens two more spots.

What I would love to see is the following for next year:

Corey returns for his senior year.
Hyatt reclassifies and joins Rutgers. He’s big enough to play SF
We add either another big man or back up PG.
Not sure how good Carter is going to be and Doucoure needs to learn to post. Loss of Freeman also hurts.

Guards- Sanders, Baker, Mathis, Harper, Kiss
Forwards- Omuyuri, Thiam, Hyatt
Bigs- Doucoure, Carter, Johnson, unnamed Big man?

Mensah still here but I just don’t see him playing at all next year.

2019- lose sanders and Mensah. Add Mulcahy and another player. That 2019 team will be damn good

Hi Bowl--Do you have reason to be very confident, re: Hyatt?

No. I wish I had reason to be very confident but I’m just hopeful more than anything. I do like the fact that he’s strongly considering reclassifying and he knows we need shooters. I think he’s up to 6-8 right now and has such a sweet jumper. I’m hoping he looks at what the roster could look like with him for next year.

I wouldn't get terribly excited about Johnson, his redshirt tells me he may be no more than Doorson is now.

Not too sure about that. The kid needs to get stronger, but reports are that he’s got some offensive skill.

There are two different issues looking forward.First, how successful will Rutgers be for the remainder of the B1G schedule? We do know when Sanders has a big offensive game Rutgers has a far better chance of winning. On the other hand winning any league road game will be a uphill battle.

The second issue is what happens next season with the change in personnel .The center and power forward positions will be question marks as to who gets minutes and who can be consistent scorers. The small forward position should provide more depth and out side shooting. The guard positions will be uncertain until Sanders makes a decision about returning. What is promising is that the talent level will improve but how will it match up with B1G competition is the unknown? The spring signing period might provide some surprises with players leaving and some shooters/scorers choosing Rutgers .

I don’t disagree with you on that Joey. I don’t know anything about it but I’m a little skeptical as to why he redshirted. It’s not like we don’t need with another big man this year. The question is do we believe that he is a part of the future and just needed to get stronger or is he another one who won’t succeed in the Big 10 so he can transfer? No info on this whatsoever but there’s been no discussion about him either and if he’s improving in practice, gained strength, etc.? Wish we had more information on how he’s doing?

No easy games in the B1G. All are fiercely contested battles. Teams like Penn State, Ohio State, and Nebraska (even in a loss) looked good this weekend. But I'm optimistic we'll win some this year.

Way too much optimism. Wisky is having a down year, but they are a perennially NCAA team, we are not going to “pass them and not look back” they will bounce back for sure.

I think Wisconsin will definitely bounce back, but I suspect that it will not be with Greg Gard as HC. He has generated no juice in either recruiting or performance on the court. I don't think Alvarez wanted him in the first place, but Bo Ryan forced his hand by stepping down mid-season. If the Badgers continue to falter, I could see Alvarez dropping the axe on Gard sooner rather than later.

Stony Brook and Hartford are both in the American East - both teams are familiar with Pike's "ways" and his strategy. I would say at his prime he had better/more experienced players at SB than he has now at RU, so they know his strategy and it's workings at the basic level we currently run them. Thus, I am not surprised that all 4 games against those teams were close - we were lucky to come out on the right end last year on both, this year they came out on top. Anyway, I vote we stop playing teams from his old conference that know him and play teams like Lafayette, etc that will be small schools and challenging but NOT from the AmEast.

Happ had a bad game because our defense made him have a bad game.

We frustrated the living hell out of Happ. That is why we won. That an Corey was head and shoulder superior to any of their guards. Great team win. I think we scrape together 4-6(high estimate) throughout the season.

Illini, Mich, Iowa, NW and a few others all winnable.

I’m not saying they don’t bounce back but I think we are going to be a new contender in the conference and get high caliber players like never before. Remember we took Wisconsin to overtime last year in the garden and really should have won in regulation. Wisconsin has a great arena and fan base and history. I just think Rutgers becomes very attractive and unless Wisconsin starts to recruit again, we will leave them in the dust. Just one persons opinion.

@BKIn118

Brian, anything you could shed on what you see in practice from Johnson?

Bigs take time in most cases-----few ready mades and they aren't showing up here.

IMO this is one you have to trust the coach.

Gotta be honest...havent had time to be at practice in quite a while. Hoping to catch a shoot around here on the road this week though.

Myles showed flashes during the summer. But it was very obvious he needed to get stronger. Plus, he is carrying a heavy academic load to get ahead of his engineering major. Hence the redshirt.

I thought Doucoure would be able to post but he seems relegated to taking jumpers at the top of the key. Is he just getting outmuscled because he’s so young? Sometimes he looks like he makes a small attempt but they just backs out to to take the jumper. He sets a high pick but then doesn’t roll quickly enough to get open?

Again, he’s very young so we could see a much improved player next year? Hoping Carter can come in and be more of a post up threat.
