Hiring Schiano would be a classic RU move

We've been doing a fair amount of job recruiting on PSU campus maybe well give Jay Paterno a shot at HC.

Wondered if anyone was going to suggest that. Wow! Yikes! I'm from North Jersey "before time". I bleed blue and white. My first football game was in 1955 in New Brunswick when my Dad took me as a nine year old to watch Lenny Moore play against Rutgers. I was at last years game and the atmosphere was electric. The fans were less than friendly and I hope you are treated better at PSU. You could do worse than Schiano but I would look for an NFL Coach or highly rated assistant, pay him well and recruit as many of the four and five stars produced in the Garden State you can get. If you want a BIG rivalry "that's what you do". My Rutgers friends have long given up on their school when it comes football. Would love to see you bring them back. It's always great to get together with your high school buddies, many of whom are RU grads. Put all this in your rear view mirror. PS: I'm from the Lion's Den.

Rutgers is going to have to significantly overpay for its next coach, especially if Flood is fired for emailing a part time teacher or because a few players got arrested. The coaching circle is small. Agents and coaches talk. Rutgers is a job you are about to be fired from your first day on campus.

GS was smart to get out when he did. He would be just as stupid to jump back in that dirty pond. Rutgers will overpay for some unproven assistant who flails around is my prediction, whenever that hire takes place. It's simply a low level job in comparison to peers. Too much sh*t and pitfalls around every corner at the school. If I was some hot shot assistant or agent, I wouldn't touch the job unless I was very confident I could get in, win enough to get another job, and get out before the inevitable stuff hits the fan. That is unlikely.

Regarding Flood, if I'm him, I get out asap if I'm not fired, even if I have to pull a Tubberville.

I will never understand why Rutgers fans bash Schiano. I think part of it is to paint Flood in a positive light, or because they didn't like how maniacal he was in managing the program...but I also think people forget what he stepped into in December of 2000, what he changed and what he did for this school.

80% of this board wouldn't be on this board today if Schiano weren't here. I felt it was his time to go in 2012 but most of you are out of your minds with the constant bashing while we have had his predecessor driving in reverse for the better part of 4 seasons now. We would be lucky if he took this job. We'll probably get stuck with an even bigger clown: PJ Fleck.

I only way I see GS coming back is as an interim HC on a one season contract. At the very least , you bring in an experienced HC who knows the program for the time they need it and at most it gives RU and GS a chance to re-kick each others tires to see if GS 2.0 is feasible for the long-term. Unfortunately I don't see Fridge coming on full-time as an interim HC because he bailed on OC for the second year of the contract and didn't he do that because of his health? But then again I'm just curious why RU is taking longer to act on Flood than Illinois took to act on Beckman. Maybe suspending Flood for the season or firing him is contingent on getting Fridge to come back full-time? It shouldn't take this long to determine that Flood did what he did as reported. Maybe it's the penalty phase of this thing they are trying to figure out.

I just think it was the way Schiano left that left a bad taste in many fans' mouths (right before NSD and bringing along almost the entire staff). Other than that, I agree that there really is no reason to not be incredibly grateful for what he did for RU. I admit that I cursed his name on more than a few different occasions but it was only for on-the-field decisions. Overall, I loved how he handled himself and managed the team. Would I want him back? I think so...mainly because I think he would recruit the pants off of NJ - he is a force whether you like it or not and he is a guy that could challenge Franklin, Meyer and Harbaugh for NJ recruits. Like the PSU poster said, we could do worse (much worse).
