How likely are we going to lose Coach Pikiell to UConn?

You guys are delusional if you think there aren't reasons why Pikiell would go to UCONN.

How many fans come to our games? How difficult is he finding getting kids to come to Rutgers. Did people forget UCONN won national championships? Our local media doesn't care about RU. Much different at UCONN.

The question to be asked is about Pikiell moving his family.

He stayed at Stony Brook for 12 years. While the chances aren't zero that he leaves for UCONN they're pretty close to zero. Seems to love it here.
Don't underestimate the bright lights of a SUPPORTED program that kids WANT to be convinced to go to.

Right now we should be more worried about losing assistants. Knight is a great coach. We don’t want to lose him

GRF brings up a good point.

Why he would stay:

- RU gave him his big shot and he owes it to Hobbs and to RU.
- His family. I believe he has several kids and some are young so don't want to disrupt them - though he did with the move to RU.
- He believes in his mission at RU.
- Preference for a P5 Conference over AAC - though UConn may be headed to Big East

Why he would leave for UConn:

- His alma mater. I have heard him say he's a UConn guy.
- His family. I believe Pikiell is from Conn and his wife may be as well.
- Is there anything better than winning at your alma mater?
- Follows an under-achiever in Ollie (he won his title with Calhoun's recruits) and doesn't have to follow Calhoun - a legend.

The thought of this has crossed my mind several times unfortunately.

Give him an extension!

but UConn isnt going to hire him unless he did something of note here...meaning NCAA...we have a couple years to worry about that
I think if ( when) Pike does something here, UConn won't be in picture because RU will do everything they can to make him want to stay.
Don't know if in a couple years UConn will be considered a plum job or a fading program .

UConn is a brand name, so I could be wrong about it
not being a progran that top Coaching talent would want to go to

Won’t happen.

Never say never.

Many on here even stated that..."look what Pike has done in such a short period of time". I agree with what many on here have said and think that seeing the state the program was in prior to him being here to now will warrant an interest gaging look with a possible interview.

Thinking he won't get interest and a look as an alumni after what he has so far demonstrated is naive thinking. Will UConn look at higher profile coaches of course but t to think that Pike will not be looked at is not realistic.

On the boneyard U Conn site their fans for the most part want Pikiell bad. Whether he would consider his alma mater or not is a good question. I know he loves it at RU but who knows for certain what might happen if U Conn did come calling. The attendance at U Conn games has dropped drastically and RU beating them out for Mathis has really bothered many of their fans. Many want Ollie gone. I would think that with U Conn not being in a major conference that Coach would want to stay in the BIG. However if the Big East ever let U Conn join maybe this could get Coach to think about going back to Connecticut. In 2021 we will get full funding from the BIG and in July 2019 our practice facility should be completed. Hopefully we can give Coach an extension and he will be here for a long time. Only time will tell. I know he and his staff are working so very hard. I really hope he stays here for many years to come. I believe he is a real treasure. We are lucky to have him.

Of course, he’s going to get looks. He’s a very good coach!!!

UConn or anyone, if someone offers him a substantial increase in comp,of course he’s susceptible to move....who wouldn’t? This is common sense in any profession.

The thing about this thread is,we have a coach in his 2nd year, not even January, beats Seton Hall, then all of a sudden a thread comes out worrying he might go to UConn!! Holy crap. What else are people worrying about?

If he gets offered somewhere and we at least match the comp, what more can we do? Can we at least enjoy the season without the worry threads coming out?

Playing Devil's advocate.......

What is more impressive, getting the Rutgers basketball program on track OR making it to the NCAAs 1 year out of 11 in the lowly American East conference.

I'd argue what he has done at Rutgers.

its on track but without a winning season no one is hiring him away

So maybe there is a silver lining to the Hartford loss. :(
Yes, the key is for Pikiell never to have a winning record so we don’t have to worry about him leaving.

Now that we’ve come up with the optimal solution we can go back to our normal channel viewing and watch the rest of the season unfold.
