We need to go 1-0 two more times. [banana][banana]

Thus far, 62 teams are bowl eligible and another 18 are one win away, according to Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com. With three weeks remaining in the season – two games for most teams – another 11 are two wins away based on records and schedules listed on the ESPN.com.

But what if the final eligible number falls short of 80?

Then bowls are required to pick from the 5-7 teams based on Academic Progress Rate scores, according to a rule made in 2012.
So Rutgers can do no better than the third-best 5-7 team, based on whether or not Vanderbilt (4-6) reaches five wins.

So if only 76 or 77 teams officially become bowl eligible, then Rutgers could get a call.

As long as Elmer Flood is fired, I don't care.

Shhh... I'm not a Rutgers Coach. I'm go'in incognito!

And just in case anyone needs the proof...

Team Ranks
  1. Indiana: #77
  2. Norfolk St: #218
  3. Kansas: #143
  4. Army: #144
  5. Maryland: #89

Going to a bowl with that body of work would be a disgrace to competitive sports.

You could say that again. If you are going to invite a 5 win team to a bowl, at least have the criteria be 5 wins over FBS opponents. Seriously, I would be disappointed if we accepted a bid at 5-7. Notre Dame got one a few years back at 5-7 and did the dignified thing and turned it down. We wouldn't though because coach flood would run around bragging about how he is the only coach in RU history to bring his teams to bowl games in each of his first 4 seasons although we know 2013 and 2015 are absolute jokes.

Nothing to do with it.

Got it, I see, APR. Fantastic, we get a bowl bid for being a HORRIBLE 5-7 team, to play another shitty team in a shitty game, because we have a good APR. LOL I'm sorry but that is beyond hysterical (and I'm PROUD of our APR...).

No thanks, no thanks, please let this NOT happen.

Well said. That Notre Dame team was also actually 6-6, even more respectable than 5-7, and they had beaten a couple good teams.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a 5-7 team has ever gone to a bowl...? Even the 5-7 possibility didn't get approved until 2012 I believe? So yes, we could potentially be the first 5-8 team in history.

Well, they (ESPN) keep making up new bowls to grab advertising and fill content so eventually the day would come when there wouldn't be enough eligible 6-6 teams. Honestly, it's comedy that they even call them bowl games anymore. I've been saying for a few years they should just call it "a 13th game" because that's what they really are outside of the 10 or so traditional big bowls played in desirable locations. I mean with the advent of the playoffs, the non-playoff bowls have even become NIT like. Next up 4-8 teams will get invites with the criteria being the least amount of players on the team arrested.

I have gone to almost all the bowl games. ....not a shot in hell I would go see a 5-7 team play....

Sad thing is if we go 5-7 and bowl the Flood supporters will have new ammo to tell us how successful he was this year and we got to go bowling.

Oh wow. I can't wait. I can't even stomach watching these last two games.

hmmmmmm.....

OK, let's say we win out and get a bowl bid. Let's say a late December/early January bowl bid. Does KF stay as coach until at least the bowl game is over?

I think Maryland will beat us so it's all moot. However, I also think that within 5 years there will be so many bowl games that 4 win teams will get invites so if we keep fludd for a few more years he's virtually guaranteed a bowl berth every year.

If we go 5-7 and anybody from Rutgers calls me to buy bowl tickets I will tell them where they can stick them.

We still have to win 2 games, aka be 1-0 for the next two weeks.... I'm not even going to watch our Nebraska loss on Tivo...

RU would have to play It's BEST game of the season to beat MD. I hope that we do BUT I am not expecting it. Army ,too will take a B1G effort. The Kaydets can put points up with their Option Attack. What a season.!

I can see a scenario where we go 5-7, get invited to a bowl and Rutgers ends up being on the hook for unclaimed tickets. Like $500k on the hook, for example. Watch, it can happen.

Going to a bowl with a 5-7 record is a joke and any teams that do will go strictly because of the glut of bowl games that now exist. -There's no accomplishment in putting together a losing record, and in regards to RU, looking like the hind end of a horse during the majority of games where we posted an "L" in the process.

One thing IS certain, though. (Or at least it should be.) -IF RU gets into a bowl at 5-7, (and there's no guarantee they'll even hit the 5-7 mark), it shouldn't have any impact at all regarding KF's job status. He needs to be gone...period, end of story.

I see Rutgers beating Army. Then I see Flood getting lucky and beating Maryland. Finally I see him winning the bowl game. Then I see him meeting with Herman and Barchi pleading his case for another year and under these circumstances I believe he'll be here next year. Opinions?

He's either fired after the MD game or he's not fired. You don't hold on to a coach through bowl season then fire him.

Flood's been one of the luckiest guys on the planet for the last 4 years. -Getting the RU head coaching job to begin with, doing just enough to keep it, and even getting away with blatantly disregarding and violating University policy regarding contact between a coach and a professor.

But, eventually, everybody's luck runs out...and I believe KF's lucky streak ends in 2015. (And it should.)

Good point. However, I'll stand by what I said, if he beats both Army and Maryland he gets a pass. Here's why, the administration sees this season differently than us because their goals ($$) are clearly different than ours. Right now Barchi and the professors are praying for Flood to have a strong finish in order to make the argument to keep him another year. To be honest with you it's a strong argument for a second chance. He had 6 or 7 players suspended or arrested some of which were starters. The firing argument is to try and win at the highest level by hiring a very good HC and staff. Unfortunately this school has never embraced that ideology. However, If he splits the final two games he's finished.

Don't remember the year but I do remember turning down a bowl, years ago,
I thought that took a lot of integrity, and should do it again. Let's not
bring more attention to our situation. We have been a laughing for so long.

I'm not saying it's impossible but I think he's gone. We know Julie already tried to get rid of him once, I think she gets it done this time.

I thought of this as well. RU should turn down any bowl bid that carries a ticket sales guarantee with it. The money saved could go toward paying the buyout for Flood.

As for a 5-7 team going bowling, it has happened at least once that I am aware of. Georgia Tech (I believe) went to the Sun Bowl a few years back, in what I think was the Sun's first year of its contract with the ACC.

The bowl that RU turned down was the Independence Bowl in 1976, possibly the inaugural game for that bowl. But the opponent was a Division 2 (at the time, which was prior to 1-A and 1-AA) McNeese State and RU didn't want to ruin its undefeated season by possibly losing to a D-2 team. But RU had another option that season - the Peach Bowl wanted to invite us but Gruninger, in his infinite wisdom, turned that down because he was afraid RU fans wouldn't buy up the 8000 tix we would have had to guarantee. The Peach Bowl!

I think it was more like they thought they deserved a better bowl invite. I don't recall a Peach Bowl invite....

Nightmare scenario.

We make a bowl and actually WIN IT... so our final record is 6-7. At that time Flood might be retained by our weak admin... [sick]

at 5-7 we shouldn't go to a bowl unless it is a B10 bowl since we will be filling a contracted spot.

Unless it is a northeastern game it will be a financial loss. We can't afford a financial loss for a bowl game when our team didn't even win 6 games.

Taking a loss of $250 k to $1 mil would hurt the non-revenue sports.

If Rutgers is short 5,000 tickets per the requirements at $50 a ticket then we owe the bowl $250k right there.
