I'm going to do a 180 on this...

Something else that Hobbs might also want to take into account. How many other major jobs are likely to be open at the end of the year. I can't think of too many which perhaps means a better pool to choose from with less competition.

I assume he has no plan to make a move on Stringer although he may graciously accept an offer to retire. I can't see RU replacing both coaches in the same season given their financial situation.

Oh good----you're right and I'm wrong.

Name the last kid from this area who signed with Herb Sendek.
Doesn't matter.
Herb had a .591 winning percentage as the WolfPack HC and a .538 percentage as the Sun Devils HC.
Name an RU MBB HC that has a record that compares to either of those Sendek stops.
Doubt those supporting Herb expect championships, only to get the RU MBB program pointed in the right direction and make it easier to become a top program with the proper support.

There are quite a number of financial components with respect to bringing a new coach to RU. Certain components have been addressed within a number of threads. Here are a few more. How much money are we willing to spend on assistants. On top of that how many years do the assistants receive in their respective contracts. While we all acknowledge the cost issues for the head coach we almost certainly will have to also pay a premium in terms of compensation and contract terms for high quality assistants. There is also the subject of the recruiting budget. I have no insight concerning RU's current recruiting budget, but I suspect it is woefully insufficient. We frequently discuss recruiting out of the metro area and overseas. It may make sense but one needs a substantial budget set aside for this. By comparison St. John's has a very substantial recruiting budget. It enables them to make frequent trips all over the country as well as overseas all yearly long. If we do not have a substantial recruiting budget it will seriously hamper recruiting efforts, and will likely preclude hiring the best staff reasonably within reach.

Unless we are willing to fund all aspects of the program it will not matter whether we keep Jordan or fire him. Nothing materially positive will change.

Don't you think Wisconsin stays with the interim guy? I don't want pastner but you would think he might have a little more capital banked. I guess if attendance is way down maybe not. Is this year 3 or 4 for Groce?

I think Gard will come back at Wisky if they make the NCAA which it appears they will

maybe OKie St will be looking for a new coach. It seems like the SEC always has a few openings
Travis Ford? We could do worse

I can see Sendek at UNLV or Illinois. I think he wil be a top candidate...can't see Archie miller or Chris Mack leaving their programs, think those would be two most attractive employed options for a top job

UNLV fans will burn down Thomas & Mack if they hire Sendek - he's not getting Illinois either

I could see Miller taking either of those jobs for the right money

I'd settle for Lonergan's recruiting at GW. I wonder what their budget for hoops is - although GW attracts the wealthy parochial kids unlike Rutgers.

Howland would kill it at UNLV but someone mentioned that he recently bought a mansion or something in Mississippi. Still, much easier making the dance at UNLV than Miss St.

I honestly don't know what you are talking about your premise is my info is based on the current situation and then I derive an opinion.
My info is from someone close to the situation who tells me regardless how you or others might react. Kind of like I told you RU had no shot at Briscoe and Ahmed was headed to SJU months before it happened.

I suspect that what you "heard" this time is worth as much as what you "heard" last time. It doesn't take much reasoning to disassemble the pointless game of telephone that might, maybe reach all the way to someone who likely hasn't made a decision yet to understand how useless this type of fan/message board information is.

It's much more reliable to just step back and look at the situation. And looking at this situation, it's hard to imaging any professional AD letting this historically bad situation continue. That's why I thought EJ was likely to be terminated whenever you made the first post about this (and I don't remember it) and that's why I feel the same way now that you've made your second post saying the exact opposite thing.

It's not a dead certainty because of money. That's the only reason why EJ might stay, but I believe that it is unlikely to save him. Now, if he's kept, you'll hear about injuries and the hole he had to dig out of. But that would be lip service. The real reason would be money.

Don't need a game of telephone to figure that out.

UNLV is not all that great of a job. Pastner is most certainly well respected. Hes not even 40. He is not done
Agree,
He's well know in Western College circles from his Arizona assistant days and still is respected as a good recruiter from his UofA days
I wouldn't be surprised if UNLV reached out to Josh if Memphis let him go.
He's signed till the 2019-20 season at a little above $2.5 mil a year.
But that might not stop Memphis from letting him go or negotiate a payoff so he'd resign.

I wouldn't be opposed if Hobbs brought Pastner in as Jordan's replacement, but I don't think RU would be willing to pay what it would take to get him.
But if Memphis lets him go (walk or the boot) , maybe his price won't be as high as I think it will be because of how Memphis' record was last season and this one.

...but now I hear he is likely to be terminated at year end.

Hearing similar names for RU that have been bandied about on this board-Sendek, King Rice and Lonergan.

I did state earlier I heard he was likely to get another year but the pressure is becoming too much at this point.
Anyone saying King Rice is clueless & should be discredited & laughed out of the room. I have a better shot at replacing EJ than King Rice. The guy was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, then assaulted a cop & years later was arrested for a dui. No chance. Plus, the guy has never taken a team to the NCAA tourney. Boyle would be a better hire than him.

Lonergan is a solid name but he hasn't been lighting the world on fire at GW so he's gonna need a ton of time here to be successful.

I'd probably look to Bobby Hurley or even Bryce Drew over Lonergan. Sure I'd prefer Miller & Mack over most but I doubt they'd come even if we paid them $4M/yr.

Don't you think Wisconsin stays with the interim guy?
I think Gard will come back at Wisky if they make the NCAA which it appears they will
Either Gard stays or they pay up for Bennett at UVA. I'd give Gard a look if Wisc moves on.

UNLV is not all that great of a job.
Not so sure about that. UNLV has Great facilities (better than most BIG schools), great community support, play before capacity crowds when they're good and only 10K or so if they're not. Recruiting is not a problem - Findley Prep is a top 5 perennial power and Bishop Gorman top 25 yearly. They have a few east coasters on the roster not counting Seagears.

its not a power 5 school...its not like its going to poach coaches away from power 5. Its not the early 90s anymore and their conference took a stupendous drop downward this season. Its coaching candidates will always consists of renegades, shady characters, younger up and comers, slick oil salesmen, guys at the tail end trying to make a comeback. If it has a young hot shot, they will always move up. Schools like Memphis, UNLV, and Marquette have great support, great facilities and can spend a lot of money on hoops but good luck trying to pry a big name or keep an up and comer. Memphis is in for a rude awakening with their candidate pool and will probably end up with a shady character

My good friend who went to Rutgers is Pastner's cousin. From what I've seen and heard he is a genuine, hard working guy who lives and breathes the game. I don't really see him coming here though and he has been on a downward trend at Memphis where they have a ton of support and have been inmuch easier conferences lately.

He's going to need another job soon
