With all apologies to Stephen Strange...with the season winding down and recruiting winding up, we have to get this done. Now. No more excuses about complicated contracts and legalese.

There's a really strange absence of reality that's associated with this process.

People are setting arbitrary dates and expectations, when the reality is that it's going to take as long as it takes. The other reality is that just because you want something to happen, that doesn't mean it's going to.

Impact on recruiting is minimal, especially with the early signing period. Even if he were announced today, Greg isn't going to get any high-caliber recruits to sign on Dec. 18th. They're all committed, already, and have been for months.

Whenever he signs, Schiano's recruiting for this year is going to be focused on the transfer portal. That all happens when the season is over.

Expectations are not arbitrary. You don’t know who might flip as well between now and signing day.

At this point we are only 12 days away from the end of the season. I think the day it gets announced will be at a press conference on December 2 at 10am

I agree and I’ve said if you really want GS the only time to worry would be if it hasn’t happened by a few days after the season...but reports are before the MSU game so what’s the big deal if it’s Weds/Thurs/Fri.

The big deal is that the buzz begins to grow between Wednesday and the game.

It's not happening Wednesday because the BOG has still not yet given their 48 hours notice for their meeting. Even if they give notice today, the meeting will be Wednesday and the announcement will be Thursday at the earliest.
They are going to need to schedule for a huge presser so I'm betting on a Friday announcement.
Get the fans excited before the last home game, Senior Day, Eric Legrand Day and hopefully get se more people into the stadium in the hopes that Greg will make an appearance.

Agree. If it GS this week, he will upgrade this class in a hurry.
I don't really see that there is a difference between getting this done this week versus getting this done in a couple of weeks, because I don't see Schiano making a huge difference on which recruits we get for the early signing day.

But so many people on this board believe he will upgrade the class in a hurry, that maybe I'm wrong. So I would like to see Schiano signed this week, in hopes that I am wrong. If I am wrong, I will gladly come back to this board and apologize for being wrong. On the other hand, if Schiano doesn't significantly upgrade this class in a hurry, I expect members of the cult to come back and admit that St Greg is not a miracle worker, and he is just the best mediocre coach that Rutgers was able to hire.

They could "announce" (i.e., hit the send button on the press release) the nanosecond that the BOG meeting adjourns. The press conference can then follow whenever.

They don't need any time to schedule a press conference, just like they didn't need any time for the press conference to announce Ash's firing.

As far as people showing up to the game, announcing Schiano might get an additional 100-200 people to show up, max.

Every single HS coach and recruit thinks it’s a done deal. Another day or two isn’t making a difference.

Not asking for names but do you see it making a difference in December, February, or will Greg's potential signing need a year to have any real effect?

Every day counts in saving this upcoming class. You don’t want to throw away year 1
You don't think he's already doing his behind the scenes inquiring etc...I don't expect much impact this first year and how much can he alone do until he has an actual staff in place to go out on the road everywhere and that's not happening until after the season unless he's hiring a whole bunch of unemployed coaches which I doubt. He's one person not superman there's only so much he can do until a staff is in place and he's not Saban or Meyer where tons of high level recruits are just going to flock to him on name alone.

As said above I'd expect the bigger impact to come from transfers and that won't be til after the season.

Also don't see anything as pessimism it just is what it is and things will unfold as they unfold and I accept it....besides I have no control over it so I'm not going to get worked up over it either positively or negatively.

Agree. The top hs players are mostly committed and waiting to sign in December.

Not sure how Greg can upgrade our current class of hs recruits in the next 4 weeks.

That is not how it works, it would be impossible for that to happen.

If Schiano agrees with the new contract, the BOG will need to post a meeting 48 hours in advance. then they will need to have the meeting and vote on the new contract, then he will actually sign it and Rutgers will finally need set-up a press conference, alerting the press etc. Even if they fast track this, the earliest would be this Friday at best.

Ash was announced on a Saturday, the BOG approved and he held is press conference on Monday.

one of the articles said the hold up was on his demands

- agreed to replace the bubble with an indoor field house
- didn't agree to replacing the Hale Center
- working on potentially an extra guaranteed year and asst coaches salaries to make up for not replacing the Hale center

Contracts take time. If greg is happy then he will be able to recruit the best asst coaches and then the best talent for on the field

Jalen Berger.

Not the biggest area of need but yeah, that would indeed be a class upgrade.

As far as the OP is concerned, it's the early part of the day but I really thought that the BOG meeting would have been announced by now. (One poster wrote "after the OSU bloodbath" and now that the game has passed, another poster writes after the MSU game in hopes that Nunzio gets his signature win.) Well, I will do my part with donation when the announcement is made but as of now, it's the same old Rutgers until proven otherwise.

Wouldn't you announce it Friday with hopes that Saturday morning the college football pregame shows cover it as NEW news?

(I suppose you might offer it to those shows for interviews to be broadcast after the announcement..sign the deal, do interviews on the sly, time broadcast to be after official announcement).

Wow, such pessimists on this board.

Pessimists or Realists? You appear to be looking forward to a "waive the magic wand" solution. I would argue the opposite of your seemingly impatient view. Would rather the deal takes its time and course so that both parties are secure in their decisions. For instance, the tenets of a well thought out deal that positively impacts that infrastructure and assistant coaching salaries will have a much more positive impact on Rutgers future football outlook than getting Schiano in immediately so he can potentially turn 2 or 3 recruits that might be 3 stars.
