In the endgame now...need to get Schiano signed today and make it official Wed

It would be different if Schiano were currently coaching and recruiting this cycle. He is not, and has not. Therefore, it is somewhat ridiculous to expect recruits he has had no contact with to flip to Rutgers as a result of his hire.

I know many of you think Greg is basically Nick Saban, but it won't happen. Therefore, whether this happens now or after the season ends is probably meaningless to the program moving forward.

Yup. Schiano last coached here when these kids were in grade school, and his one big year came when they were maybe 4. There's no reason kids in this class should scramble to come play for him.

The formal press conference is not really what we are all waiting for.
Once a deal is ready for the BOG's rubber stamp the press will report it "subject to BOG approval at a meeting scheduled for ________". That's when we can relax.

Snacks and vodka still waiting proper usage...hire someone already!!

He was DC at OSU a year ago, so i would think he recruited top tier NJ kids while at OSU. He is a year removed not necesssarily 10 years removed.

He is still not Saban, but he is not unknown either

Infinitely easier to recruit to OS then Rutgers. Kids he was after there don’t need to come here. They have 10 offers better if they don’t pick OS

Yes, but the kids he was working on for OSU seem unlikely to be the same kids who would flip to RU on short notice. He's not unknown, but he's also not a guy who is likely to flip a bunch of kids to RU based on his reputation only.

So you are saying they all got those "Hello, Scarlet Knight" books?

There's a really strange absence of reality that's associated with this process.

People are setting arbitrary dates and expectations, when the reality is that it's going to take as long as it takes. The other reality is that just because you want something to happen, that doesn't mean it's going to.

Impact on recruiting is minimal, especially with the early signing period. Even if he were announced today, Greg isn't going to get any high-caliber recruits to sign on Dec. 18th. They're all committed, already, and have been for months.

Whenever he signs, Schiano's recruiting for this year is going to be focused on the transfer portal. That all happens when the season is over.
Does "committed" now mean what I once, long ago thought it meant ? Or is it still "hold my spot until something better comes along" ?
If the latter, then we've got a chance to flip some guys.

It's certainly the latter, although in reality I don't think that - using Jalen Berger as an example - a strong lean towards PSU is the same as "waiting until my Rutgers offer comes along".

In addition to PSU and Rutgers he already has offers from tOSU, LSU and Wisconsin.

I can't believe they are still negotiating terms with GS. Time for final offer and either accept or reject. He is not getting a Hale Center replacement so he wants more years added to his deal? Still unclear where all this supposed leverage comes from. Does he want to the job or not? If you don't think another couple of weeks to be able to talk directly with kids who are willing to listen to a pitch would be helpful I think you are mistaken. Most kids sign during the early period which is why getting him on board sooner seemed to be important.

LOL it’s gonna be SOON

Watch RU F this up and the meltdown will be hysterical.

The guy has had 4 jobs since he left. Tampa disaster. Knoxville disaster never happened. Patriots ??

Who knows what other jobs he interviewed for?

He did a good job at RU but that was a long time ago. What’s the freaking hold up. Big dollar facilities?

Maybe we need a coach to come in and show something then work up from that. Not a primadonna demanding the world before he signs.

This is BS.

I find it hard to believe the BOG will regard itself as a "rubber stamp" This is an important decision.

I think people need to calm down. Obviously there are still unresolved issues between Schiano and the administration-- otherwise the deal would have gotten done by now. There's nothing anything any of us can do to affect what happens. Either Schiano will be hired or he won't. If he is, it will happen when it happens. It's fun speculating, but let's not drive ourselves crazy.

What’s BS is the number of impatient whiny posters on here who are shrieking like little girls! A bunch of Veruca Salt “I want it now” girls. (It’s a Willy Wonka reference...)

Get some Xanax and chill already.

The deal will happen when it happens because it’s ready to happen. The rest is all noise.

if Jalen is coming, whether Schiano signs this week or next, isn’t going to make a difference.
Suggesting a way Coach Schiano can upgrade the class. The timing of his hire affecting Jalen's recruitment isn't something I'm speculating on. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree with you that a few days or a week one way or the other will likely not make a material impact.

You sound like a child

Grow up

Not asking for names but do you see it making a difference in December, February, or will Greg's potential signing need a year to have any real effect?
Well if you believe people here then day 1 he should sell 30k tickets and land 6 four stars. In reality, there are kids on the fence who would definitely give Rutgers a serial look once he’s announced. His staff will also matter. I think his name and resume will help more with the transfer market which he will hit hard.

With all apologies to Stephen Strange...with the season winding down and recruiting winding up, we have to get this done. Now. No more excuses about complicated contracts and legalese.

We have to get it done, but not by some artificial timeline of Wednesday. Friday is fine as is next week. I do agree the sooner the better, but a few days here or there won't matter much in the big picture, especially as most top recruits are already verbally committed, as others have noted. Sure, maybe Greg could flip a few who might've had RU interest and now might have much more RU interest, but the biggest area for talent will be the transfer portal and some jucos. I'd also work real hard on Blackshear - just treat him like any other transfer we'd be happy to have given his talent level (it's business, not personal).

Self awareness isn’t your strong suit

What do you hope to accomplish posting the same exact thing everyday?
The same thing as any other poster who have variety of opinions on different subjects. If I offend, ignore. Or don’t post.

Tampa is much more on Tampa than Greg, who had a better record than either his predecessor or successor. And you can't blame TN on Greg at all, so bringing it up is just stupid. Same with the Pats. And OSU was great for 2 years and not so good his last year, but they had a ton of injuries to key guys last year.

How is it a different topic when you start the same EXACT thread from the previous day?
And the previous day before that and so on

Again....by repeating the same exact thing....what are you hoping to accomplish ?

What I meant is that once the public meeting has ben scheduled, all the votes will have already been decided.

That's probably right. I've seen politicians schedule meetings at which they aren't sure they can win in the hope that the lobbying before the meeting will produce a different result. That might happen here (and I emphasize "might." ) But there certainly won't be an announcement of a hiring before the meeting. All there will be in the 48-hour notice and a whole bunch of "high Rutgers sources" indicating the hiring will be recommended.

I have to say that it is *not* a good sign that the parties haven't reached agreement on the term of the contract (that could certainly be a deal-killer) or on the size of the assistants' pool, and on whatever else may be at issue. But let's hope, and not make ourselves or each other crazy.
