In the endgame now...need to get Schiano signed today and make it official Wed

Tampa is much more on Tampa than Greg, who had a better record than either his predecessor or successor. And you can't blame TN on Greg at all, so bringing it up is just stupid. Same with the Pats. And OSU was great for 2 years and not so good his last year, but they had a ton of injuries to key guys last year.

Ok nothing was ever Greg’s fault. Got it.

Infinitely easier to recruit to OS then Rutgers. Kids he was after there don’t need to come here. They have 10 offers better if they don’t pick OS

I agree we're not flipping 4+ star players. However, I doubt that GS has been sitting on his hands for the past 2 months and doesn't know who might still be available. Heck, we can find that info on the various recruiting sites. He may have identified a few kids, and they could still be had. Also, while GS was recruiting the 5-star players at OSU he still saw film of their teammates who were less regarded. Again, perhaps 2-3 of them could still be in play.

That's probably right. I've seen politicians schedule meetings at which they aren't sure they can win in the hope that the lobbying before the meeting will produce a different result. That might happen here (and I emphasize "might." ) But there certainly won't be an announcement of a hiring before the meeting. All there will be in the 48-hour notice and a whole bunch of "high Rutgers sources" indicating the hiring will be recommended.

I have to say that it is *not* a good sign that the parties haven't reached agreement on the term of the contract (that could certainly be a deal-killer) or on the size of the assistants' pool, and on whatever else may be at issue. But let's hope, and not make ourselves or each other crazy.

Agree on the first part, but disagree mostly on the 2nd part. From what I've heard, agreements have been reached, in principle, but that dotting the i's and crossing the t's on how this is all financed (NJ, RU, big donors, B1G monies, etc.) is taking some time, which is not a surprise, given the political climate, and which has nothing to do with Greg, per se, as any good coach would be asking for what Greg's asking for. I continue to not be worried and will only become worried if something goes awry and we hear that negotiations have broken down for some reason, which we have not heard and which I don't expect to hear. But, of course, until we have everything finalized, something always could go wrong. This is Rutgers and NJ after all.

Let me add that an awful lot depends on what the public/student/faculty/legislature's reaction is to whatever package Schiano and the university agree on. As we all know, not everyone is a fan of big-time sports at Rutgers. The more private donors will contribute to this, the less the hysteria will be, so our boosters matter a lot too.

I'm glad Greg is evidently on board, but financing could turn into a critical issue. Don't assume that will automatically turn out all right.

Try to understand some nuance. I said it wasn't all Greg's fault, whereas the poster I was replying to basically said it was all Greg's fault. Sure, he could've done better as he admitted in his SI interview after being fired. I'm just saying a big part of that failure was on Tampa's dysfunctional leadership, which continues to this day. And I assume you agree that citing TN and the Patriots is just silly, as those weren't failures. OSU in his 3rd year? I'm sure there was some blame on Greg and some on the injuries.

Suggesting a way Coach Schiano can upgrade the class. The timing of his hire affecting Jalen's recruitment isn't something I'm speculating on. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree with you that a few days or a week one way or the other will likely not make a material impact.

I suspect that the folks actually doing the recruiting could possibly be passing along the information about how likely it is that GS will be here at least informally/off the record.

lol @ “the faculty” et al...Barchi, The BOG and Murphy are on board. That’s all anyone needs to know.

If Dowlings old buddies start making a fuss, tell them the Big Ten is a great conference for chess and we will spend some on chess boards.

You can relax. I promise.

Thanks, but there isn't even a completed deal yet so far as we know. So how can we be sure who's on board?? And @RU848789 says finances are still being arranged; unfortunately, that part of it could still fall though and that would kill the deal for sure. Let's not count our chickens before they're hatched.

Okay you keep worrying. Enjoy. I’m no longer skeptical that it’s done as I began to get - slightly and privately - prior to the weekend.

It's not going to be anyone earth-shattering.

And yes, the expectation are totally - definitively - arbitrary.

except for one thing

Come year four, we are going to need 6-8 bonfire players from this class to be able to contribute (and even lead some ) because we will hopefully be talented behind this class, but painfully young.

I AM TOTALLY & UTTERLY LOST NOW!!

Dude....have a drink, please, lol

p.s. - I clearly used an apostrophe

It would be different if Schiano were currently coaching and recruiting this cycle. He is not, and has not. Therefore, it is somewhat ridiculous to expect recruits he has had no contact with to flip to Rutgers as a result of his hire.

I know many of you think Greg is basically Nick Saban, but it won't happen. Therefore, whether this happens now or after the season ends is probably meaningless to the program moving forward.

He flipped many right away when he came here as a relatively unknown in 2000.
Think he will more successful than you might think ...even with a short window.

I'm a big fan of decoding --

and I predict if it goes past Friday its not going to happen - that is with no inside information what so ever.
I don't expect an announcement until after the season is over. Like the day after.

I agree---like the approx. 496,000 who didn't give to the BIG build fund, many of whom sit on this site and everyday post their "demands" and complaints about ice on the sidewalk, burned out light bulbs or the price of beer and would rather get scalped tickets than be a season ticket holder--yes they can be counted on???? (we know that's not happening)

OK, but the administration and the BOG sure will.

Dude... WTF do you think they’ve been doing? You DO realize the BOG votes are ready to go, right? WE WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR OTHERWISE (Which has been discussed hear 1000 times in 100 different threads already but I guess you just don’t want to listen).

That's obviously wrong. If the votes are "ready to go," why hasn't a meeting been called yet??? Clearly, there is an issue to be resolved.

Vulva.

That is all.
