Basketball INSTANT REACTION: Rutgers Basketball defeats Georgetown 71-60

Why did both coaches have a bunch of starters in under 30 second to go. Weird.
Only an 11 point win. Hate it

If I didn't know any better, I would think this was a football thread on game day. 🤣 🤣 🤣

The board's reaction to a meaningless play with a minute to go late in the first half.

First time I've watched us play this season. Feels good to win a game against a name opponent (even if they are rebuilding) that wasn't in doubt pretty much the entire second half. Very balanced scoring, that's good.

Love the potential of this pressing D, especially when Mag is back. Teams without a strong PG are going to burn a ton of clock getting into their O, or turn it over.

On O, with multiple new guys, it's going to take some time to get in a flow. Tonight showed flashes of promise at times.

Fernandes with a very important second half to hopefully jumpstart his offense. The three after he traveled was sweet, too.

Rebounding was not strong. That's going to be an issue at least until Mag is back.

Re: the offense/defense swaps - we cannot afford to lose a game like this after Princeton. It is clear with the double digit lead that Pike was more concerned with keeping them from making a run than with scoring more. Getting GG back in on O when possible made sense in case the Hoyas went to foul, despite GG's rough night at the stripe. I thought that made sense. Would've been nice to see more Griffiths earlier in the 2nd half though.

Well a DD win against a BE team is a good result. Could have been better but they did what they had to. Saw some improvement. Good.

Per KnightLine people are saying Cooley and staff were jawing at the Riot Squad all night and an assistant flipped them off 🤣

Now saying Cooley said "all you young writers sitting here like a lump on a log need to ask questions"

He seems unhinged. It's this early in the season... he's in for a lotttt more L's

If no one that covers Rutgers at his presser asked him about Georgetown tampering then that is journalistic malpractice. That set in motion something that had enormous impact on the Rutgers program in a negative way including NCAA tournament prospects for this season and he’s in the Rutgers arena. Don’t tell me he’s just going to deny it or no comment so it’s not worth asking. You need to get a reaction and put him on the spot. The fans weren’t all over him because they didn’t like him leaving Providence. Since all I’ve seen so far are his comments about writers NOT asking questions I assume no one asked, WEAK. No one gives a crap what he thinks of the Gavitt Games ending.

It would be the only question that I'd be interested in watching his response to even though he will deny it

cooley is a nutjob. Was acting childish and crazy all game. He’s going to do something stupid and or wear out his welcome there very quickly

I agree, the boards will be an issue come B10 games if this keeps up.

Could that be because Rutgers is trying to get out and run, so fewer guys are hitting the boards? Maybe the Mag will help. Pike might commit an extra play to the boards to address the problem. I thought they were fine when Cliff and Woof were together. It's when they go smaller it becomes an issue

And the Rutgers students are probably nothing compared to the treatment he’ll get at Providence this season on January 27.

Pike made a great point about the rebounds. He said we made them have so many turnovers etc that not as many shots went up so there were less opportunity to get a rebound.
I'm not buying that when it comes to rebound margin. According to the Yahoo box score, we were outrebounded 36-27.

Georgetown had 9 offensive boards. We had 21 defensive rebounds. That means they got 30% of their misses.

On the flip side, we got 6 offensive rebounds and Georgetown got 27 defensive, so we only grabbed 18.2% (close enough... 😄) of the shots we missed.

Offensive rebound totals for RU: Cliff and Wolf 2 each, Griffiths and Davis one each. Hyatt was the overall leading rebounder with seven boards.

The extreme overreactions to individual plays on game day threads is comical.
Always is. The MBB gameday threads are hilariously bipolar, much more so than the FB forum. We also have more than our fair share of coach-wanna-bes without clues.

I would guess most teams, with active internet forums, have much the same exhibition of the APA's DSM greatest hits that we do. 🙂
