For what it's worth, and that's not much these days, one of the Morgantown news outlets quoted an unidentified player as saying the team is staying together. But I think it's way too soon for anyone to make a statement like that when the interim coach hasn't been named and given the NIL world we're in now.

Yeah I was just checking out their roster, saw that he was from the area RU has been recruiting. He went to Putnam highschool in Connecticut. Believe the staff would be familiar with him..

he's well traveled played for Gardner-Webb ( 2 seasons)and Marquette( one season) and Manhattan (1) before transferring to WV.
Manhattan didn't go along with the waiver that would have let Perez be immediately eligible to play for the Mountaineers, so he had to sit the 2022-23 season ..

I read the exact opposite of this:

“Manhattan College completed all of the required NCAA transfer forms requested by West Virginia University in a timely manner and did not object to Jose Perez's waiver application," Manhattan said in its statement. "All further questions should be directed to WVU and the NCAA."

Oh ok, I think I remember Manhattan being in the NCAA tournament and this kid going off. But seems like he's a shooter/scorer. I feel like the team needs a veteran 2 guard. perez seems perfect. Send a message to his highschool coach. "There's a place for you at Rutgers if you need a new landing spot after Huggins" Basketball season is over so I treat this like I'm playing NCAA march madness and building a roster lol .

Doesn’t look like Manhattan made it to the tournament either of his two years there, but you could be thinking of his freshman year at Gardner-Webb. They made the tournament as a 16 seed and got matched up with Virginia. Perez dropped 19 on 7-10 from the field, 4-6 from 3.

In an article I read I believe it just stated a report that Manhattan didn't support the waiver.
But I might have forgotten that here was a denial by Manhattan that said what you posted.
I went back to find the article I used and could only find articles supporting your version.
So I probably posted false info and I apologize to all for doing so

Others may know more about him than I do, but over the last 3 seasons that he played before sitting out last season, Jose Perez shot 25%, 29%, and 25% from 3PT, respectively, so it makes me wonder about his outside shooting.

Hmm 20% three pt pct is kind of terrible. Maybe there isn't a spot for him at RU. Lol Just throwing the name in as a potential transfer. He has some nice accolades and puts ball in basket not sure how efficient he is though.

The WVU NIL Collective, Country Roads, is quite robust. I think Jerry West is an adviser.

Also, it's looking like WVU isn't planning to go the interim head coach route. Zooms have reportedly been held with some current head coaches.

If we get him this would be massive for us next year.

He has entered officially and there are connections with him through Caleb, Cliff and Hyatt

Toussaint went to Texas Tech.

Doesn't appear that Perez was at WVU for a year. WVU updated Perez' portal profile page on 01/17/2023 to indicate Perez was enrolled full-time for the spring semester and that he was not receiving athletic aid.

The NCAA did not give him a waiver but, tbh, Idk if he applied for one.

Nice...looked at his stats a little closer...looks like he hasn't gotten consistent minutes since his freshman year and the one year at Manhattan. His freshman year he shot close to 40% from 3
I'm lying, he got consistent minutes 3 years...shot decently his freshman year only...seems like a good scorer though..

Idk anything about him? Do you say that because of the transfers? Seems that his coach left right before the season the last two times he's transferred.
I guess my questions would be about what happened last year with the eligibility issue. But those concerns aside, we have to explore all possibilities.

So what if the coach leaves ?

New guy going to be playing with 4 guys ?

It's basketball----if you can only function when everything favors you lotsa luck.

He had one year left and committed to West Virginia to play for Bob Huggins and hopefully play in March. Then the coach he came to play for leaves and the roster he came to be a part of completely goes to shit.

If I’m him, I’m getting my ass out of Morgantown as quickly as possible too.

God forbid it's looked upon as an opportunity to secure more playing time and play a bigger role.

But that's just me.

I know a WVU fan who is sad so see him go. They saw him cheering for his teammates all last year and were excited to see him play. I hope he doesn’t go to UM (or anywhere in the B1G outside of RU of course).
