Kevin Stallings fired at Pitt.

I am imagining a short list of: Tom Crean, Thad Matta, Dan Hurley...then Barry R and B Knight behind those 3. But who knows...

If UCONN loses today is Ollie next to go?
On UConn's board, they don't think Coach Pike would leave a P5 program for an AAC school even though it's UConn. The money is not there for UConn like it once was and even if Rutgers isn't a top P5 school, it has more appeal than UConn right now. There were some UConn idiots who were quick to take jabs at Pike for what he had done so far at Rutgers. They will find fault with anything Rutgers just to justify their viewpoint.

I don't think Steve would leave. That conference is not great for UCONN in my opinion.

I be more worried about him going back as the lead assistant. Big buyout being paid to stallings.

No he wouldn't----the ACC is no place for your first HC job.
because all that experience helped stallings? he couldnt have been as bad a hire at the time..his players wouldve actually liked him.

Everyone saying Stallings good guy and coach. What the heck has happened there?

BINGO....not the time for Knight at Pitt..it would a Jordan/Hill redux all over. Big boy basketball is not a learn on the job thing.....that being said this job is very unattractive at the moment. Pitt fans will overshoot and they better be careful.

I read that Thad Matta is looking to get back into coaching....he would be an EXCELLENT hire for them. I think Hurley and Crean are also possiblity....and who knows maybe they make a run at Howland...who has been okay at Miss State but nothing too spectacular

Stallings was a terrible hire by any metric for Pitt...They Littlepaged the program. Decent at Vandy but everyone could see this coming.

Not sure I understand why Stallings was such a bad fit there. Wasn't he at a directional Illinois school before Vandy? Overall body of work prior to Pitt was pretty solid. Having said that, if they have the resources to seriously interest the likes of Crean, Matta and Hurley that would be a strong field of candidates. While the ACC is tough, there is no reason to believe Pitt cannot be competitive with the right coach.

I've actually never heard anyone say anything positive about Stallings as a person and his coaching has always been questionable IMO.

Why would Dan Hurley go to that dumpster fire? He'll have significantly better options. Tom Crean might be a reasonable choice.

I'm not saying that he would go there or that Pitt is a great opportunity, I'm just speculating on Pitt's possible wish list for interviews.

What better options do you think Hurley has other than a P5 program in a great BB Conference with a solid history ?

in rare agreement with you. Hurley coaches at URI..and his team is sputtering down the stretch...what jobs are exactly waiting for him that are open. Pitt is a ACC program with a great history and a big fanbase. Yes you can win there. Hurley an east coast guy with connections is well suited for that job. What job would he hold out for? Alabama? lol...Washington lol..dont think so

Matta's back problems are supposed to have improved enough that he feels it won't affect him like it did his last few years as the Buckeye's HC.
If so he'd be an excellent choice.
But hiring him might be a gamble health wise because his back might feel good now, but become a problem again in the near future.
I can't say it will be and sure Pitt will give him a through exam to make sure he's not going to have a back problem hurt his ability to run their MBB program
As for recruiting Thad might think about having Slice return to make Pitt's recruiting improve and rely less on Thad traveling far and wide after HS talent.
Last I heard is Rohrssen left St.John's after a falling out with Mullins in 2016 and haven't heard of him going anywhere after that.

Not meant to be a knock on Pikiell, but UConn has won four NCs since 1999 and one as recently as four years ago. Granted, they have been dealt a tough blow with conference reallignment, but they will be probably be going after a much higher profile coach than Pikiell, or a young-up-and-comer IMO.

I don't think Hurley would find the Pitt job attractive as it's been quoted that he wants a job where he can compete for 4 and 5 stars. I can see Brandin Knight leaving for a top assistant gig there however. I can see Crean and Matta as candidates however if you're Pitt and the massive rebuild that has to happen there I think you go for a young up and comer.

I am not quite sure what this means.....wants a job where he can compete for 4 and 5 stars.

There are a lot of 4 Stars, usually, the top 120 or so players each year. Montez Mathis was a 4 Star at 91. A bunch of teams in each P5 conference compete for and get 4 star players.

There are about two dozen 5 Star Players each year. Does that mean his choices are limited to the likes of Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Kansas, Arizona, Florida, UCLA and a few others that swim in that top 25 pool every year ?

Hurley has a good job----in a nice place----he's well paid.

He's going to be one of the better teams in the league every year

No reason to leave unless it's a bigtime job and he isn't looking for one at the moment.

My opinion:
Think your wrong about not looking.
It's just Danny isn't advertising he will jump ship if a good offer presents itself.
Coaches at programs like RI will always keep their options open and have 3rd parties gauge major programs interest in them .
If interest is there the school and Coaches like Hurley will discuss the job after both have a good idea what the other wants /expects.
Danny isn't going to look like he wants to leave, unless he thinks a major program will give him what he wants.

If Pitt gives him basically what he wanted from RU and makes it fully guaranteed for 7 years ,he's be Pitt's new HC in a second
But I doubt Pitt would even consider that and
Hurley wouldn't accept less

Danny Hurley, either this year or in the near future, is a likely candidate for a high level P5 job, I imagine. I obviously don't know the entirety of the coaching carousel over the next year or two, but I'm pretty confident he'll be in high demand. Pitt is on the way down.

Pitt is a high level P5 job in the ACC...they are two years removed from their last NCAA appearance which was a run of 13 NCAA appearances in 15 years, this isn't a Rutgers type program or Seton Hall. Its a very good job with great support. Programs like that who are strongly supported by the administration can bounce back quickly. They made a terrible hire in Stallings but that does not mean they are doomed to the basement

in a conference that trash this year. No one wants to stay at URI for a long period. I can understand why he wouldnt touch the Rutgers dumpster fire, but its nowhere near the same situation at Pitt

Throw a few schools out so we can see what you are talking about.
