Lovie Smith to coach Illinois

Here is a Football question who wins Ill at Rutgers this year both rookie college HC coaches. Lovie if you do not know took over for Schiano at tampa and was on a par with Schiano s' record and got fired like Schiano in 2 years. So here we have a match up of a x-pro HC vs. young DC coach. As for team talent level about even maybe a bit better on Rutgers side. Smith seemsly to keep the same offensive scheme w/senior Wes Lunt (sp) as QB. So the advantage might go to Ill. But the short time to get a staff/practice/etc. I think Ash will have a leg up.
And last it is a home game advantage Rutgers. Should be a win for RU

The bar for all these new coaches was set be Pat Narduzzi at Pitt this past recruiting year. I hope that Ash can walk the walk and not just talk the talk. He needs to recruit a top 30 class for 2017.

That's a better hire than I expected given the time of year

It would have been funny if the new Illini A.D. approached Schiano - I wonder if Meyer would have said "ok, you can have him after our bowl game - in January 2017".

Garrick McGee, Louisville offensive coordinator hired by Illini to be OC. McGee is one of the tip paid OC's in college football ~ $1m range.

The new AD has given Lovie $4m for assistant coaches' salaries.

When they fire him they can hire GS and bring it full circle. I don't think he lasts three years.
