MATCH THREAD: RU WRESTLERS V OREGON ST, 7pm, BTN +

IMO, if Correnti keeps this improvement curve he just may have a small run at the Big 10 tourny and qualify and next year if he can some how make 197, he's a damn straight ranked 197 pounder !

Gross tied at 2 going into the 3rd. Like Matt Correnti he is improving quicky, it's all conditioning now.

Strange stall call on Gross at end as he was the only guy shooting imo,

FINAL: No. 11 #RUWR defeats Oregon State, 38-3! The Scarlet Knights improve to 8-2 overall and stay undefeated at home

Mulligan is going 97 next year. Have to think Correnti RS next year, bulks up then goes HWT

I originally thought the same, now not so sure. Correnti staying at 197 will be a ranked guy pretty quick, and could be an AA too he's a huge 197, only conditioning holding him back.

Could some knowledgeable poster explain the stall call against gross?

Coach Goodale is doing a hell of a job coaching these guys up. Correnti/Gross both have improved tremendously since the beginning of the season. Should beat Purdue reasonably comfortably as a team...big matches upcoming for Paetzall and JVB as both need wins for B1G tourney placement in March. Delvecchio can't take Welch lightly either.

Interesting quote. It's obvious coach was not happy about 125.

"It started at '25,'' Rutgers coach Scott Goodale said. "That's a true freshman (Paetzell) coming against a guy who has really beaten three of our guys in the past couple of years. It was huge for Paetzell to come out and do what he did. That gives you momentum, that gives you energy, that gives you a lot. That's what you need out of that 125 spot, is someone who is going to score points and that's what he did tonight. And it carries all the way through.''

Not surprised given how much McCabe has underachieved through much of his career.

McCabe had a pretty good stretch last year where he took out a couple top 20ish type kids. I believe a lot of ppl were having some expectations for Mccabe this year.

Speaking of that, I thought it was interesting in the Goodale interview he mentioned that Paetzell doesn't have many 125 pounders in the room he can roll with... does that mean McCabe left the team??

Losing to Agaisse the true freshman in the Princeton outdoor match I think was the final straw for McCabe as a starter. Unless he's facing a monster like Suriano, you would think a 5th year senior should be able to defeat a true freshman.

Might have been when he lost to the Cornell backup

Good to see Correnti wrestling well. Looks like he's starting to adjust to weight-cut and college grind. Expect good things from him in the future.

Don't get use to him at 197 in future years, this quote says it all (and not completely unexpected).

""I wanted to start right away," Correnti said. "I knew we had a good team this year, so I wanted to be part of that. Maybe I won't have many chances to make (weight at) 197 again, so I wanted to do it this year and let my body get bigger if I need to."

Correnti estimates that he dropped more than 30 pounds after arriving on campus in August. Assistant coach John Leonardis helped him fix his diet with Rutgers looking to fix a multi-year problem of not generating enough points in the upper weights, especially without former heavyweight Billy Smith. "

Didn't know Pafumi was still on the squad. Glad for him. A really nice young guy.

He's a excellent young man. He joined Donny as "special guest coaches" for our Rec kids just before the Christmas break. He was great with the kids helping out and signing autographs after practice. I can't thank him and Donny enough for the appearance.
