Mid Major player to watch

Isn’t this KYK childhood buddy?

Sounds like a shameless plug rather than a true evaluation.

Sad to see @kyk1827 sell out like this...again.
Must be.
What other reason would the Op continue to bang the drum about this kid.
The kid played at Seton Hall Prep. One of our assistant coaches played there while the current head coach was an assistant. I am sure our staff knows all about any potential recruit from that particular school.
I am a SHP alum and would love to see us recruit someone from that school. This kid as a transfer is probably not the answer.

Stats dont tell the whole story. He has been poor from the line yes, but marist has so little talent that he has to force things. Williams is not a sharp shooter but hes a slasher and a tremendous ball handler who can get to the tin at ease
If he can't shoot, how will he get to the rim? What does the overall lack of talent on his team have to do with him being a bad FT shooter?

has zero to do with his poor foul shooting which I've admitted. The kid can shoot, it's just not his strength, his strength is getting to the rim. When I say he forces things, if you play back some marist games, they lack talent quite obviously so he tries to force things when he's in the game. He is not a horrible shooter by any means though, kid put Jalen Carey in the cement mixer when he played him last year. He dropped like 25 against Jalen carey. Check out this highlight last year at about 1:03 when he makes Carey kiss the floor.

and if you wanna see what an exclamation point looks like go to 5:16. @Russ Wood but he isnt' a good athlete FOH man. This kid explodes off the ground.

also let me reiterate what i've said in this thread numerous times but people want to not take notice of. I'm not saying we should push kids out to land him, I thought he would've been a good take instead of Souf last year. But if we have some late departures, rather than going into the 2018-2019 season with just an open ship, I think it'd be worthwhile to at least into him

I’ve watched many SHP games the last 3 years. No way RU should have offered Williams last year.

Now, for anyone paying attention, Ashton Miller,, JR, and cousin of the Gibbs family, has been tearing it up all year. He’s played much better than the Jabri Abdur-Raheem, but Jabri is still a SO.

Brandin Knight was at last nights SHP game. I wouldn’t be surprised if RU offers Williams.

I just thought we shouldve taken him over souf, that was all.

I never said "he isn't a good athlete", but nice try putting words in my mouth @kyk1827

What I said was, He's not all that athletic. He's got average athleticism, it might look like he's real athletic playing in the MAAC because some of those guys are not great athletes and are kinda slow (which is why they are in the MAAC). I didn't see anything to suggest that he's explosive.

So, what was that video supposed show me at 5:16?

That a 6-foot-3 guard with D1 talent & a running start can dunk? Or that high school kids watching the game will react to every dunk like they've never seen one before?

Thank God that was caught on video because I've never seen a 6-foot-3 guard, with a running start, dunk before. Wait, wait, wait. That's not true because someone tagged me in this Tweet two nights ago.

Just because someone can dunk doesn't mean they are explosive.

You said hes not all that athletic, which is typically a kind way of saying hes not athletic. Vid should show you him shaking jalen carey, amongst other things.

Btw do you think you can beat me 1 on 1?

If you are 6 1 and can dunk, I’d say your muscle fibers are in good shape. If you are 6 8 and can dunk, that is not indicative of much.

I do the best I can to say what I mean.

If, after watching four games, I felt that he was not athletic I would have said that. I saw him display average athleticism so I said that.

I didn't watch the whole video , it really wasn't worth my time. Intead I went to the 5:16 mark and waited to be amazed.

So, one time in one video he shook Jalen Carey. Good for Austin.

Could I beat you 1 on 1? What on earth does that have to do with this discussion?

haha i was joking about the 1 on 1 thing.

But the 5:16 thing was just to show his athleticism. You can say what you want but id say over 50% of big ten guards can't go coast to coast and throw it down in traffic. The kid is very athletic and still very raw. I guess I'd ask you this. Who's got more potential as raw players, him or peter kiss and why

I was told last week that Jabari Abdul Raheem has 37 offers already. He's the real deal.

One year later how is Austin Williams doing at Marist?
Not so great haha, hes got 2 seniors ahead of him and a frosh that the new coach brought in.

But again for the 100th time if you read back in the thread, i thought we shouldve taken him over souf, still do. Were now a year removed from that and with mulcahy coming in, williams wouldve been processed after this season and transferred out.

And you know damn well how hes doing

If you want to watch a mid major who can play the next time Murray St is on watch Ja Morant.

Ridiculous

He's an ok finisher, not great and not great in traffic, but he's a good finisher in the MAAC.

RU needs guys that can come in and play now not sit out a year and hope he improves his shot. You can't afford to swing and miss on a guard, and definitely not a point guard. That really sets your program back. You can take a chance on a big man, but not a guard
Russ --Since you have contact with so many top recruits out there , what kind of buzz, if any, is Rutgers generating with top recruits? Are they giving Rutgers serious consideration or are they still waiting to see what's happening at Rutgers? Thank you.

No more slashers please.

Ever.

Slasher is a euphemism for "he can't shoot".

Kind of like the old "game manager" QB which we have lots of experience with.
Dane Miller was a slasher and had a terrific freshmen season. The rest of his college career wasn't up to that level of performance.Rutgers needs shooters .

I haven't spoken with any prospects who have Rutgers offers since May. That prospect wasn't giving RU serious consideration though. He didn't even know where Rutgers was located.

Dane was 6’7” and a plus athlete. He wasn’t able to get to that next level, but few players add another dimension to their game once they reach college. That’s what makes Eugene’s progression so impressive.

Slasher guards are a dime a dozen. 6’3” is decent size for a PG but if they aren’t lock down defenders there is really no value in taking on the risk (likelihood) they will never develop an outside shot, especially if they also aren’t a distributor. A PG needs two of those three skill sets on day 1. SHP has a strong history of PGs- look at Brandin Knight or his brother Brevin- both were underrated due to size. But they were lightning quick so good defenders and incredibly sound as ballhandlers/floor generals. I think the fallacy in recruiting is comparing to the bottom of the roster guy like Souf who didn’t contribute. The OP is missing the point. A scholarship is intended for someone who will do more than just be a practice player.

Instead, you need to think of in comparison vs the guys who they need to compete against. Especially for a guy who is at a low-mid major school - if he’s not making an impact at that level, why would anyone think he’d belong in one of the toughest conferences, even as a bench warmer? I’m always skeptical of transfers- even Jacob Young who has a strong h.s. pedigree and coming from Texas has a lot to prove. Guys transferring “up” are even bigger long shots and I’d rather focus on getting the McConnells of the world since we’re not paying the price of a sit out year,

Well at least he didn't ask "What's a Rutgers?"
