Name a few realistic candidates if EJ doesn't survive

Herb Sendek has a life time record of 407-291 and eight NCAA's and ten NIT bids. Would love that success at RU.

the problem with our fans is that they keep overshooting for what happens in the future. What guy who will us national championship in football and basketball. We seem always to be about 10 steps ahead of what will happen and projecting greatness before it did happen. We were like that when other fanbases came to this message board. Deal in the now...we need to first move to be competitive team then get to the NITs and then leap to the NCAAs...at this point I would sign on for 3 NITS in a row knowing that RU is going 18-13 to get there...then we can worry about making the dance.
The real step #1 is getting rid of Eddie after this season. Will this even happen?

What does that equate to at RU? Seriously.

140-174 was his record in conference games at NC State and Arizona State. At RU that translates in to 4-14.

Succeeding at NC State or Arizona State compared to Rutgers is like Duke.

You don't fire Eddie Jordan and throw $2.5 million or whatever for that.

Ok, so, let's call Herb Sendek "door number 1".......let's move on to Bryce Drew "door number 2".......he inherited a good Valparaiso program from his dad and brother and has improved it. He is a very good coach but we do not know if he can build a program from the bottom up.

Thoughts?

His brother wasn't scared away by the mess/scandal/sanctions when he took over the Baylor job in 2003 at the age of 33.

Seriously?

Ignored the 40-14 conference record at Miami of Ohio?

How about 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place and 4th place in the ACC? Hell, 5th and 6th will get you in and 7th on the bubble. I would certainly take that in the B1G in a nano second!

2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the PAC 10. Would love that in the B1G!

Throw out the two first years at each school and whoa!

Hard to see a better investment of only 2.5 million!

Why was he fired/failed at both places?

He would be a retread.

Fired where? Left Miami of Ohio for NC State? Left NC State for Arizona State.

Last two years were an NCAA bid and win over Xavier and a "bad year" of 18-16.
I'll sign up for that type of retread or failure yesterday.

Has Jerod Haase been brought up?

UAB guy now
Coached under Roy Williams

Know nothing about him, just did some searches of current programs

Lon Kruger took Florida to the final 4 then was fired and won at Illinois, jumped to the NBA where he was fired by the Hawks and then went to UNLV and then to Oklahoma where his team will be the new #1 next week

Rutgers basketball records since Hill Era and Sendek compared to those seasons.

Hill

10-19 (3-13)
11-20 (3-15)
11-21 (2-16)
15-17 (5-13)

Rice

15-17 (5-13)
14-18 (6-12)
15-16 (5-13)

Jordan

12-21 (5-13)
10-22 (2-16)
6-12 (0-5)

In his 22 seasons - with stops at Miami (OH), NC State and Arizona State, Sendek had just four seasons with fewer than 15 wins. that just so happens to be the best Rutgers win total over the last three hires.

Haase conference record in Conference USA (the current awful one not the one with Huggins, Pitino and Calipari of yesteryear!)

7-9
7-9
12-6

*4-0 in 15-16

C-USA Record in three complete seasons: 26-24

Rutgers fans always poo poohing guys who win for some oddball reasons. Its about coaching and winning. RU fans have some gold standard that simply does not exist for this program.

ooh lets not fire Flood because we don't know who will come here...ooh im scared, ooh im scared Ash doesn't have any NJ ties, no NJ assistant...ooh what will NJ coaches say

ooh im scared because a guy isn't flashy enough, ooh im scared because we might miss out something if we fire Jordan. ooh im scared of taking a risk.

bottom line is you should be scared of the futility here and the acceptance of it. You should embrace the challenge of qualified coaches attempting to turn this around

Sendek left for Arizona State because he was on the hot seat and writing was on the wall.
Actually ASU fired him:
>Arizona State on Tuesday changed the direction of its men's basketball program, firing coach Herb Sendek after nine seasons with the Sun Devils.
Vice President of Athletics Ray Anderson explained his decision simply: "It was time to upgrade the program," he said.<

a Chris Ash type in basketball is a total throwing a dart on a wall, less likely for success than a proven guy.

given we are getting 9th or worst option in any given year...ask derleider....they all are darts.

energy and vision are a must in this job. we need 1 part CEO, 1 part guy without a life, 1 part motivator, and 1 part X and O coach. The person who gets it done here will have 2 options.....a job at Duke, UNC or Syracuse OR his name on the RAC floor and a huge statue somewhere on campus.

What do almost all "proven" guys have in common?

They were fired at their last job.
Nope. I want a guy who wasn't fired and pay a boatload of money for him.

Or we can use the formula that we have been using for the last 20 years and get the next FHJ or Rice.

Most are fired because of delusional new AD's/Presidents who think their school is a more attractive
school for recruits, and job for coaches then the school actually is.

Clearly, that is what happened to Sendek at NC State and Arizona State where Bobby Hurley looks to have them on probation before a tournament berth.

i just think Sendek is another example of the ultimate paradox here--would be the perfect Coach to
turn the trend around without facilities, and have us respectable within 5 year, etc. but he will get plucked
by one of the bottom-feeders at a more elite conference with more cash.

Would Mike Rice be interested in coming back? He will be in high demand with John Lucas saying he
is in control of his anger demons after 6 months in rehab with John Lucas in Texas.

And YES, EJ is gone at season end because the week that AD Hobbs was hired the money was raised to
replace both basketball coaches, although Stringer will be able to stay at a much lower salary, but time for a change there as well, apparently.

UCLA fired Howland. # retread!

And Howland immediately expressed interest in the Rutgers opening after being fired from UCLA in 2013. What a dumpster fire the athletic department has been. Howland is putting together back to back rivals top 15 classes in his first two years at Miss State.

Lonergan has Rutgers in his rear view mirror. He will have far better suitors than Rutgers.

How about a Travis Ford or John Groce if they happened to be let go this year?

If we went with a "retread" Sendek makes the most sense since we could conceivably come to verbal agreement and move on securing a staff before Ford and Groce were let go.

I would take a chance on Jay Williams. Smart, young, Jersey guy. No experience, I get it, but a great pedigree. Get some experienced assistants (like a Brian Ellerbe RU guy B1G coach) and some others, and let Jay be the face of the program and sell it.

None of the other candidate names do anything for me.
