There has to be a correlation between national ranking and referee assignments. I haven't recognized any of the ref crews this year. Last night (versus Seton Hall), the ref's missed a couple of very physical hits and made calls on infractions that seemed very questionable. I guess the newer officials have to get their experience somewhere, but hopefully not during B1G conference play?
Denise Brooks has been refereeing RU games for as long as I can remember. She at one time was among the referees that worked the most games each season. For whatever reason, she didn't start reffing until several weeks into this season.
Joe Vaszily has also refereed numerous RU games over the years. IIRC - and am not thinking of someone else - he is from Westfield, and back when we were living in NJ I don't think I thought he was a good fit for RU games.
Rochelle Jones has been around, and works for several of the major conferences.
I do some sort of referee tracking each year. For several years, it was the refs that worked the most; then I did Pac12 folks for a couple of years, but always tracking where they were each day and how many conferences they worked (up to 10 conferences for some refs).
This year, I am only developing the "list" for the 5 power conferences and how many games they work for each power conference (the only ref to work all 5 (so far this year) is Cameron Inouye, who worked her first Pac12 game last night).
In any case, the refs at Rutgers last night were not remotely new folks.
