NCAA Wrestling Seeds:

Pete Gonzalez and Karl Monaco were D-3 national champs at Montclair State. I. Those days you could enter the D-1 NCAAs, they both All-Americaned with Pete taking 7th and Karl taking 3rd. Talk about unseeded.
The next year Karl took second he lost to Krieger from Iowa St. in the finals. Gonzalez took a 5th that year as well. Shame they got rid of that program. Another Title IX casualty.

There can't be data showing ff hurt the sport, it's just common sense. Fans want to see marquee matches just like any other sport. Daffy ducking should be penalized it def hurts the sport and takes away the competitiveness of the sport

Rasheed should be dropped to 4. Others have losses but to top 10 ranked wrestlers. Rasheed's chance to beat a top ranked Martin, what's he do? Daffy DUCK.
He's ok for 1st 2 matches against lower ranked comp but all of sudden he's hurt Vs Martin. It's bs and u know it put down the blue kool aid. I get it that it's a strategic move but as a fan wouldn't u rather see that match
I could see maybe if it's a 1st yr Hs kid vs a state placer maybe... but this kids a top ranked D1 scholarship wrestler at the mighty pen state- where's your balls.

Guys, alI can see are posts from faithful RU guys because I ignored whoever a long time ago (I forget who i put on ignore but it's only been 2 PSU posters and I did it not long after suriano transferred here).
I suggest you do the same, it's glorious!

Guy is an unstable nutt, who at over 50 doesn't have a drivers license.Karl Monaco on the other hand is a true gentleman.
Pete def has issues but he knows his stuff and a good communicator with kids. Don't need a drivers license or be a gentleman to be a good coach. His off season travel team goes all over to tournaments in vegas, Pa,md, does summer long branch duals. Of course someone has to pick him up and drive him home...

I don't want to ruffle feathers here, but using the word gentleman when describing him is a very loose comment. If you lose your license that translates out as you're not a very good person. I've heard on more than one occasion that he was a bully when he was younger. I'm sure people change, but a 50 + year old shouldn't be asking people to pick them up. Circumstances are what they are, and I hope he is making a difference with kids. I've met him on several occasions, and was less than impressed with him.

Forfeits don’t impact me and my interest ... what does is that RU has a pretty good team and the fact it is RU. I don’t watch other teams. If I watch a match between 2 wrestlers from other teams, it is simply because an RU wrestler is on deck, or it is a final of a tourney RU is in where an RU wrestler makes a final.

For example, you often hear that the midwest is losing population to the south. Its population is not going down, its just not growing as fast.
Not like it's an important point, but what you say is correct, except for my home state of Iowa. We are indeed losing population, but for a variety of factors, not just those who move to the south.

In fact, it's kind of dire, as we have the second lowest unemployment rate in the country, and not enough workers to fill A TON of jobs where we need people. So, the lesson to be learned, folks? MOVE TO IOWAY!

1- I think you should reread the post. I said he doesnt have to be a gentleman to be a good wresting coach. 2- For you to say anyone who has lost their license is not a good person is assinine. 3-Someone told you that he was a bully a long time ago. Really??
Pete might not be a gentleman or a good driver or meet your high standards, but beleive me Pete knows wrestling

Sorry, we don't have time to chase after every post by this guy, so he's on a short vacation.

People don't just loose their licenses because they are good law abiding citizens.Pete does know wrestling.A very decorated h.s. and college wrestler. That doesn't mean he is a good example of a person. As for coaching,he is a very good coach.I had a conversation with a someone who went to high school with him and said he was an a-hole bully.Im not looking to malign the guy on a public forum, but he doesn't live his life right and certainly acts like a mental patient in public.I tend to believe my buddy from what I've seen in person.

Wow. Who ordained you Pope lol. So 37 years ago he was a bully and beat up your friend?
The post was that he's an excellent coach, t and runs club in Paramus, that's all. You started ttalking sh1t abt not being law abiding, drivers license, bullying, and acting like a mental patient- but your not trying to malign him?? What would you say if you were trying to malign him. And what would you say to his face

Dude relax! I'm only a Pope on the weekends. The conversation was laid back about Pete being a bully. He just happened to see him in the stands, when my buddy's kid was wrestling. My buddy wasn't sitting there loading up a rifling crossing Pete's name out like in the end of Billy Madison. He was just smirking and saying he was an a hole bully. When the guy is talking to you ,two inches from your face slobbering all over you, going on tangents about 5 different subjects, bumming a ride from everyone...... That classifies someone as a mental patient in my book.

Excuse me your honor, such a fine, good life living exemplary person such as yourself should have better spelling and grammar skills lol. That may qualify you as a bad person, per your posts abt pistol Pete.
Your posts are all over the place, 1st you said your friend said he was a bully in hs, now it's he had a beef with Pete at his kids match. Instead of being a keyboard tough guy,
keep the comments abt wrestling leave the personal bs to yourself, unless you want to call Pete and tell him what you think abt him. On your trip to the emergency room you will realize it was a bad idea lol. Like I said he may have issues but who doesn't (except you of course) but he is a great coach and has the ability to see moves from the corner as good as anyone.

I think you over read and spend to much time picking out grammar errors.I am certainly not afraid of Pete and don't have to resort to calling him out, since we are in our50's and both very accomplished wrestlers. I simply made a observational comment on my initial meeting with him and based on what my buddy said. You seem to take a particular offense to the subject? Do you have some sort of relationship with him?

I have no skin in this game but the issues are:
#1. This side conversation is derailing the thread and has nothing to do with NCAA seeds. Board etiquette I think would be to start a new thread about this guy or PM each other.
#2. What is happening is just gossiping about someone. Your buddy said this, you observed that, and now you're telling us about it and the guy isn't here to defend himself. Some other people like some aspects of the guy so they're at least defending that part of this guy. You said your part, we all heard it, time to move on back to the regular topic of this thread.

Absolutely agree. My apologies.I got caught up in the back and forth nonsense that most message boards are accustom to.So,with that said, who sees a dark horse AA on our team.I think Lipari gets it done, and in a big way.

Does JVB or Gravina count as a dark horse to AA?? I’d be pleasantly shocked to see Lipari AA this year...
TBH anything more then 2 AA this year would be extra gravy to me

I would love for that to be true but his path sucks. Really happy for that kid. I like the way he wrestles and seems like a hard worker. He has a pigtail so he has to win his first match to continue. If he wins he has Yianni second round. In the consis first round he would get the loser of Chad Red vs Ian Parker. If he wins that he gets the loser of Joey McKenna vs Kaid Brock. His draw is brutal.

Agree, he has a brutal draw. However is he loses his Pigtail still continues. There is a pigtail in the wrestlebacks.

Agree. I said my piece, Pete is a friend of mine and a Nj wrestling legend. Not right for him to be bashed on a wrestling forum. That's a wrap on the Pete drama.
I'm looking for gravina to do some damage. He's had some time off to rest that shoulder hope he can grind out some wins to get on the podium. It's his last go so he'll leave that shoulder on the mat if he has to.

I like Lipari, but rate his AA chances at < 5%.(Lipari got 9th in the B10.)
Yes there is a chance, but don't see him putting that type of run together.
JVB always has that pinning potential, while Lipari is a grind em out kind of wrestler.
