**NEW STADIUM RULES THIS WEEKEND**

Loved the Dune books, was so psyched for the Dune movie and then - thud! What a dud. Kyle McLachlan as Paul was completely miscast and the plotting was plodding and the dialogue was wooden. Director David Lynch essentially disavowed his role in the film, saying he was not given artistic control.

Blade Runner, on the other hand, was brilliant, especially the director's cut. Ford, Hauer, Young, et al were all terrific. Also liked Young a lot in No Way Out - she was way out there on the hot/crazy scale, though. Just ask James Woods, who was a bit of a nut himself.

The SciFi mini series was pretty good.

I'm just so relieved we didn't have masses of spectators falling ill because they couldn't hydrate for an entire 3.5 hours without having to purchase bottles of water. Didn't know how we'd ever get through it.

Indeed. Thanks for catching that. He's doing well, doing lots of neat stuff with graphene now. AFAIK the bridges are sort of on hold while licensing stuff is going on, but there's a ton of interest in his graphene based composites.
Hopefully he has a "eureka!" moment with those soon and we get our pedestrian bridges over River Road. ;)

Didn't read every page, but holy crap our fans complaint about everything. Wahhhh you have to buy a bottle of water at the game now. Here's a idea. Don't go if you're going to complain about buying bottled water on a hot day.

But, but, but Chip, I must hydrate! Don't you know a human can't exist without drinking water for 3+ hours?

I'm not complaining about that but I still do find it odd they never put a water fountain upstairs, on either side.

At the Howard game, that would have been true.
I stuck a one liter bottle of water in my cargo pants, and when going in the woman and security asked if there was something in my pants, and I said, no, I am just really excited for the first B1G game of the season!

See, cargo pants are fashionable and functional.

Cargo shorts don't cut it when I get excited about a game. Need clam diggers:sunglasses:

And that is why the whole thing was pointless. I too brought in a bottle (granted mine was empty and filled at fountain) in my shorts and the security didn't bat an eye.
I'm sure some listened and ended up buying inside but if we take the rationale at face value in that it was to protect from a heightened security threat, then we have a whole different thing we should be worried about.

Maybe I'm just too trusting or too stupid but I don't see how anyone can come to the conclusion that this was anything but a security issue. I had wondered on here the other day if a directive came from somewhere outside the RU community. This could also be why there was such short notice.

Thankfully RU made it possible for me and anyone else who has a medical need to bring liquids into the stadium, and they made it very easy to do. I don't want to divulge any details but if there are any security or safety risks posed by someone carryIng in a bottle of liquid, the new procedures do nothing to control them. I don't think the new rules have anything to do with security concerns.

Not for nothin' Sodexo's stock value jumped half a percent after the stadium policy was announced Friday.

I do think it was security related. The issue for me is that if it was, they sure did a poor job of stopping the issues they made a point in bringing up.

May I also present to you the "CRUshed" up water bottle.

1 Go to Tailgate
2) DRink a bottle of bottled water. You can even purchase singles at my Raritan Borough "Stop N Shop" for .50 though a case is $2.49-$3.49 (lasts a single a monthish)
3) Take your empty bottle and think of Syracuse, Penn State, Mike Rice, Kevin Bannon, Pat Hobbs (students only), Notre Dame, Jerry Sandusky/Joe Paterno, Kim Kardashian, Kayne West, The real Mafia Housewives and house husbands of New Jersey/New York (enter your state or major city here), or your ex or current girlfriend/wife.
4)CRUsh the bottle vertically into 1/4 the size normal
5)enter vthe stadium
6)Fill at water station or even bathroom f necessary
7) dRink up!

If there really were heightened security concerns what other new measures did you see in force? Added police presence? No. New screenings, or random pat downs or wands at entrances? No. Any "see something, say something" announcements? No.

Apparently the only new threat to our safety comes in water bottles. But not if you go through "the gate over there" or stuff it under your sweatshirt.

If anyone is a hiker and carries collapsable water bottles or bladders, you could probably roll one of those up and keep it in your pocket too.

Buy one bottle inside and fill it with fountain water as needed. Not a big deal compared to everything else going on around here lately...

Maybe to you but to some $6 is a lot. I'm technically homeless and looking to get away from long term unemployment (with my two masters degrees and $80K plus in student loans) being housed in a hotel at taxpayer expense at $250 per week before any other benefits.

My food benefit is $6.30 a DAY for 3 meals and drink-pretty much an impossibility even if one has a house. Until the past few days (tax refund I was shorted on by the state after spending $18,000 on hotels after my near foreclosure) I didn't have a burner or cooking set. Until 2 weeks ago I didn't have a refrigerator and until 3 weeks ago I had no microwave in my motel room. I had to borrow my tailgate money (felt guilty I was spending $10-$15 on a tailgate breakfast but it also keep all happy in R tailgate family) for the first two games though I have already paid half back (since I was shorted in my sales tax refund check estimated 3X more than I received back-have to pay my car insurance, yada also)

Unlike the many on here who b*tch, moan and criticize me and whomever, I spend ALL the money I had in the bank and then some to pay for my season ticket and seat donation (even after my parking/23+ priority points as of 2012 was deliberately/inadvertently taken away from me after a "donaton" to the university.. 3 seasons ago I sold my 2nd car to make my seat donaton by April 30th.

SO YES, $6 for a bottle of water IS a lot to me. I wouldn't pay $6 on principal alone. That doesn't include all the other money has wasted buying out poor coaching choices, yada. My and "friend" makes $100K+ on staff in a position I'm as qualified for if not more than he. His significant other 2-3 times that (not judging worth). Also when head to head with whom I think the longest Running upper sports staff member I aced the class vs about a "C" for him (though he did spend much time re the team),

When I had money I wouldn't have spent $6 on water unless perhaps it came with a BJ. My parents taught me the value of money (my father came from a poor family of 16) I did spent $27-$32 in AC on dinner a few times (felt real bad about that) but my frends drove nd it was their choice (and one deserves a good meal once in awhile especially if they have no family/home cooked meals).

For those that find a measure of comfort in security rules that prohibit people from carrying bottles of water into a stadium, have you thought about what the severe consequences are for someone who tries to bring combustible liquids in a bottle disguised as a water onto a plane or into a stadium? They have to throw it out. Yup, that's it. For the most part. No security people open the bottle then and there to check the contents. Nobody secures the bottle and labels it with the name of the fan or traveler who attempted to bring it in for later examination. Just throw it out. A pretty big deterrent, isn't it?

Also thinking about it $6 for water (NOT a convenience item-I know I have kidney stones if not undiagnosed diabetes and prostate issues) is an INSULT to those who pay so much for tickets and parking to begin with. The cost of a bottle of water in a 24 pack (larger cheaper) is about .$.15.

Perhaps Rutgers should take those worthless donor key tags and use them to offer a 10% or so discount on food and water. Ditto for TD Club membership?"

There are a lot of elderly people who attend the games. Dehydration is a serious issue for older people and may result in serious emergency health situations. The elderly also tend to be people who have limited income. The RU games that they have attended for years are something they save for. That $4.00 bottle of water is an expensive for them.

22, that's $6 a bottle of water. Don't want to anger anyone but I really think today's crop of retirees/elderly R gong to be well off compared to the future. Many of those retired today or up there in years had pensions that aren't there today. PLENTY (millons upon millions) of exceptions.

Dehydration is an issue that EVERYONE potentially faces.

security? LOL...the two groups of people sitting in front of me each brought in their own glass bottles of wine coolers...

But then they'll be forced to complain at home about how empty the stadium looks.
