No. 11 Wrestling At 2025 Big Ten Championships

Don’t quote me on this but Casale is in a 9th place bracket and I believe if he wins his first two matches he’ll secure an auto bid. Has to face Mielnik and then Sollars.

Yes big 10 has 10 bids at 197 casale needs to make the finals of the 9th place bracket

Peterson, Shawver, Olivieri, Clark - NQ, wrestling for 3rd-6th

SCW - NQ, wrestling for 7th-8th. May MFF

White - needs 2 wins to take 9th to secure a bid

Casale - needs 1 win to take 9th/10th to secure a bid

Harer, Turley - need 2 wins each to take 9th which can put them in better position for an at large

Yara - done for the tournament. Will likely get an at large.

Isn’t he 25 at this point? So silly this guy is still wrestling
He’s the same age as Jackson Turley. The Covid free year rule was completely botched. I don’t understand why the kids who competed in 2020 lost a year despite not wrestling at nationals, but the kids who competed in 2021 were given a free year despite competing at nationals. Made no sense at the time and is even dumber now as we’re seeing with the amount of 6th, 7th, and 8th year wrestlers.

Matt Kolodzik pulled his red shirt as a senior with a chance to win the whole thing. He wrestled like 3 matches and then everything was cancelled. He got absolutely screwed while Carter Starocci who wasn’t in college in 2020 and didn’t lose anything is able to win a 5th title. Makes no sense.

Saw in interview with Goody. He said SCW isn’t wrestling today

He’s 24. Was young as true frosh. Was 18, in 2019 (turned 19 May31st, they mentioned that on network last night.

As discussed. The guys from 2020 got screwed. Cenzo, Hall and especially Kolodzik.

The thing that pisses me off is how guys like Gable and AJ got Olympic redshirts and neither tried to make the team (didn’t go to USOpen). That rule needs to be changed. If you get Olympic shirt, you better at least try to make team

JT had something left to prove. As for Gable coming back after sitting out a year while entertaining professional wrestling and football? That an Olympic champ could come back and mop up the competition and win another NC? I get the ages and hanging on to a college career, but they are different circumstances. I suppose with NIL, Gable probably had the Brinks Truck back up to his house for a return. That's something I didnt consider until just now. This year could be his best payday year for the rest of his life.

The list of 3x champions is also way more exclusive than the list of 2x champions. Saying Turley had more to prove than Gable is pretty arbitrary.

Gable is a supremely entertaining wrestler so him wrestling is great for the sport. He brings eyes which this sport needs. Someone like Micic for example who wrestled for 8 years and scored 2 points a match, I could do without that.

Think of the points left on the table due to Poz retiring and the injuries to Yara and SCW. It doesn’t mean anything anyway.
Completely understood. Not saying it’s bad or good. Just hate looking up and seeing Maryland. Don’t like them a little bit

Turley caught a bit of break, Walker from Michigan got pinned by Garza of msu so Turley has Garza instead , wildcard might be tough though , Conley from WVU needs one , I know Janiah Queen stole a bid at Eiwas so I think Turley needs to win this bracket otherwise he ll be sweating it out …Harer is in a tough spot , being in the big ten helps but he doesn’t have any wins over any ncaa qualifers and would need to beat chumley to win the 9th place bracket

No I would not crow if 3rd. When we had 2 NCAA champs I thought it was skewed.
100% correct. It’s why team tournament is stupid. Northern Colorado is going to rack up a ton of points because of Alirez. Same with Cal Poly and Ferrari. There’s no world where either of those teams are in the same breath as Rutgers but their team scores may be comparable.

You’re entitled to your opinion and I respect it. But will have to agree to disagree.

I think the optics matter to recruits. They most likely pay more attention to the end of year tournaments than they do to the midseason duels (out side of marque matches). Recruits watch the tournaments and see the singlets in the finals.

I’m talking more about consistency.

Of course there will be those flags in the pan teams with 1-2 wrestlers every year, that place high and help rack up points for their team.

There’s no doubt they care more about March than January but I don’t think any of them truly care about the difference between finishing 25th and finishing 12th. Again, look at where Northern Colorado and Cal Poly finish this year and ask if recruits would rather go there than some of the teams they finish ahead of.

I didn't think so. Turley AA'd his freshman year and never got close again. He never won a B1G championship or an NCAA title. Gable has multiple B1G/NCAA titles and an Olympic gold hanging from his dresser. In returning for a final year, Turley had much more to prove to himself in my opinion. Gable returning is allowing him to attain goals he already has achieved many times over by steamrolling opponents and tossing quality wrestlers such as Feldman around like rag dolls. Gable proving what we already know doesn't compare to Turley rising to lofty goals which he barely sniffed.

Not be that guy but northern Colorado would be favored at 125, 141,157 ,165 with toss ups at 184 and 197 against you guys , and Serrano at 133 is no joke he’s beat a few guys Shawver lost too

This tournament ended up being a disaster when you count the injuries coming out of it. Yara is extremely injured, Goodale insinuated in his interview he “hopes “ we see SCW again this year and now Peterson is banged up. Yeah we qualified 5 yesterday but 2 of them are hurt and think many thought at least 8-9, even 10 qualifiers 3-4 weeks ago.

Team scores aren't meaningless. Rutgers hasnt performed well and the score reflects that. Conversely, Nebraska is performing very well and it is reflected in their score. I

I knew it was skewed when I realized 1 NCAA champ is worth more, in that tourney, than 10 ncaa qualifiers.

Next year’s duals team title is a step in the right direction and good for the sport. Just like how the 3 pt takedown was good for the sport we gotta keep evolving.

U think so? RU ranked #12 dual meet team on intermat.. I don’t see northern Colorado ranked in the top 30…

Turley, White, and Harer all win their 1st bouts of the morning. Casale is up next on mat 3 and can clinch an AQ with a win.
