Basketball No. 25 Rutgers Basketball rolls past Wagner 75-52

i know we’ve lost some intensity on d this half but lack of interior D is going to kill us. Hopefully having ace will help with some more length and jumping ability
Elite centers will eat us alive. Pike will have to dial up some double teams which is less than ideal.

In the first half Davis passed on a 3 by pump faking driving and drawing a foul going to the line. Now he fakes and passes to a better 3 point shooter for the assist to Martini

Going to need off ball 3s from Acuff Davis Dercack if they’re going to play contributing minutes in winning basketball games. Same can be said for Williams but to a lesser degree because one he can give you a little bit more of other things and he’s not as much of off ball problem as the other 3.

One of the three former is going to get squeezed out I believe, and my money is probably on Acuff based on the eventual need Pike will see for “putting defense on the floor” with Dercack (right or wrong) and Davis is buddies with Ace plus inherently plays a style where he doesn’t force his way into the offense.

Was an okay performance. Lots to fix, but got the win.
at least we didn’t have to sweat it out. Scored 75 after missing everything for first few minutes. Need to get Hayes , martini and possibly Acuff 3 point looks and I think the offense could be unreal. Dylan running the show and pick and roll is going to be our bread and butter as he’s such a good passer and can get downhill.

Perimeter D was good in first half but not great in second half. interior d will be a problem all year. Not impressed with Durkaks D tonight ; too many lazy blow byes

Exactly what I expected. Overwhelmed weak opponent with superior talent, but still no half court offensive plan and horrific free throw shooting, paired with no presence in the key. Hopefully will see Ace sooner rather than later. Talent is undeniable.

The surprise? Bad rebounding.

Getting out rebounded by 4 after the st. john’s scrimmage doesn’t bode well , especially since they have no size

Teams don't play 13 team. Couple people will be left out. Lot of minutes tonight will be going to Ace moving forward so even less available
Yes...I'm well aware....but up 26 with 3 to go a scholarship kid should be in by then. That's all.

I also saw a lot of good things as well, very fluid offense, good ball movement, Dylan, JWill, Somerville, Martini, Derkack and Hayes combined to shoot 28-43 (65%), JMike, Acuff, Ogbole and Grant dragged the overall team percentage down (1-12). Free throw shooting was bad second half, shot 57% for the game. This team is so much better and enjoyable to watch compared to last year, last year’s team probably would have struggled to something like a 59-52 win in this game.

Scoring is going to be dependent on if we are having a good shooting night.

Defense is going to be rough against teams with a dominant big man and a 3pt specialist to compliment.

Cliff who?
Rothstein on Twitter “ Lathan Sommerville, buy stock now!”
I bought it the minute I saw his first recruiting tape did some research and looked into his linage.
Kid is going to be special, I am glad we have the minutes at the 5 to give him.
Best possible circumstances beautiful high IQ basketball at the 5!
His D will only get better, has all the things you can’t teach and more!!!

1. I am pretty sure he (Mag) held out last year
2. I am saying there is a small chance Ace is holding out. When a coach says a team is healthy and then a player sits out I would think that could raise a warning flag.
There is also a small chance JWill is gambling again. Of course there is no evidence to suggest anything of the sort. So, being an ethical person I'm not going to randomly bring that up.

If he was declared out for the game and the coach said he was healthy…..

Was it unethical to say anything after Hobbs stepped down?

Regarding Hobbs, what was happening was pretty obvious. When there is a forest fire's worth of smoke in the sky it's OK to suggest there is probably a fire. Bad comparison.

What do you mean the coach said he was healthy? The coach said he was injured.

there was a podcast yesterday where Pike said the team was fully healthy.

I do think in Pike's world fully healthy means everyone is alive and no bones are broke.

Ace was on the bench and fully engaged with his teammates in warmups so I am very comfortable he does in fact have an injury and Pike is being Pike. It is possible there is a tad bit of disappointment Ace didn't play through it though.

Obviously I understand why Ace wouldn't force it.
