OFFICIAL USC Trip Thread-- Who is going? What are your plans?

Not exactly "nice" restaurants, but I would check out the Venice Whaler at the end of Washington. Food is ok but it's more about the view and the atmosphere.
Right across the street is a little dive bar called Hinano. Still one of my favorite burgers. It's super simple and not fancy, but something about the 50 years of grease on that grill or something.
What about Fat Sal’s down the street? Feels like being back at Rutgers

Ooh! That wasn't there when I lived there. Would definitely get that. Pretty sure Turtle from Entourage owns a stake in that?

Side note. I was at Rutgers a few weeks back. First time I'd ever brought my wife and she sampled her first Fat Sandwich at RU Hungry. She's a fan.

I'll be going and staying with my daughter and her family, who live about a mile from the Coliseum. Is it better to get tickets through RU or USC?

So you want to sit surrounded by Rutgers fans? Buy thru RU
If you don't care about that, buy thru USC or StubHub

Where is the Visitor’s seating section in the Coliseum?
They don’t draw well so seats near our section should be easy.

Everyone can do what they want, but in my experience, buy through Rutgers is not only more expensive but you get worse seats. We don't particularly care about sitting in the Rutgers section. We want good seats with good sightlines. We have enjoyed sitting with visiting fans and chatting with them. Did this at BC and Wisconsin, and we had great seats and a great time.

Agree. Found out the Visitors section is 101 which is way beyond the End Zone in the far corner of the closed off end of the Coliseum . Not sure you can see past our own 20 yard line. Might be a Stub Hub game.

Santa Monica Hilton is booked. those going should try and get a section together. Anyone been to game there and could suggest one??

When we went to Wisconsin and BC, registered and ordered through their website.

We have the date marked for Va Tech when single game tickets go on sale. Need to check when that is for USC. We will register and buy through USC.

When we went to psu the first time RU would not sell me a block of 25 tickets so we went thru their ticket office. Nicest ticket guy ever. Made sure to put us in a section that was not near students or new grads, and even gave us the group discount when we were able to get 50 people to call him and get tix thru him. He sat us all together.

Back to the topic at hand, and please keep it on topic. For those not at the Santa Monica Hilton, where is everyone staying? And are people going out early? I think we will go out Wednesday morning and spend some time exploring outside of LA in the mountains.

I plan to attend. My “go to” hotel is the Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey. Not far from the Coliseum. Great area for walking around and you can even walk to Venice Beach easily. Quick drive to Santa Monica.

It could be pricey for a USC home game. (Looks like the cheapest rooms are $785 - $900 with a marina view.)
Only 1.5 miles from the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey. Random crime is everywhere. Sad situation:

I was staying two blocks from there when this happened. Unfortunately there’s a police call for some kind of homeless disturbance on the Oceanwalk in Venice almost every day. I’d definitely recommend avoiding the area after dark.
Not familiar with Venice Walk (Someone in this thread saw fit to point out my misuse of "Venice Beach," but that looks like a very nice area. This reinforces our decision to not stay anywhere in/close to LA- we plan to get a cabin in the Topanga Hills and an airport hotel before the flight back the next day.

LA is pretty cool. Also, Marina Del Rey is very nice and a super quick ride to the airport.

Fly six hours to sit with Rutgers fans in the worst possible section of the stadium. No thanks.
This is the shitty part of away games- the allotments are always in shitty areas. But if you go through a different outlet for a better seat- you may find yourself in the middle of a hostile crowd or at least, just not with other fans that you can cheer with

In most cases, unless you are dealing with a packed house, you just need to get in the stadium. At that point you can move to wherever you want usually as long as the seats are open.

Unless, you have security that won't let you into those seats that are completely empty.

Myself - have only had the chance to go to away games as a family member so always had seats in the team away sections. And if you think the College away games are bad- you should see the seats you get in the away NFL games...I believe our seats for the away Jets and Giants games were about halfway up section 325 the away game in Pittsburgh was in 523 and we were the 3rd row from the top...

We're getting in on Wednesday afternoon so we should be good by Friday! My only question remaining for us - is how to best get to the stadium and what it's going to be like getting out. Likely relying on mass transit or Uber/Lyft...

It will be for anyone traveling to the game from the east coast; which is the topic that started the tread.

incorrect. The topic that started the thread, back on December 30th, 2023, was asking if anyone was going to the USC game and what the plans were. Actually, all 5 pages of the thread talk about hotels, car rentals, ways to get to the stadium and restaurants. Nothing in this thread, except for your "11pm kickoff" post spoke to the game time. This thread is for people going to the game....8pm kickoff

I've been to a lot of road games. Almost always in the RU section. Often middling to bad seats but being with my people (Yes, you my fellow fans) makes up for that.

The times I have invited non-fanatic friends or family's to join me I have gone on the local market for better seats.

Both strategies work. It's down to preference.

Few fan bases are so out there that sitting among them is problematic. (Talking to you UConn, ugh.) Of course it only takes one jerk and that can happen anywhere.

yes just looking for the experience of a game at the Coliseum, so would like to sit with Rutgers fans, view is secondary..
Also curious about gettin out with Uber. Staying at a hotel downtown 6 miles away,
(Getting there should be easy, leaving by 1PM, spending afternoon at USC campus)

Me and a guy from the regular tailgate crew are planning to. In all the years I have been following RU this will be my first road trip.
Just starting my instrument training and after I get my ticket will be flying to most of our games at the Midwest stadiums. I have always wanted to go to RU games at Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota and more.

Is this the start of Air Finklestadt?

Metro E line tram to Expo Park/USC
Short walk to stadium and return after the game.
