Olympics Thread official or unofficial (Please no spoilers).

I love watching the swimming relays.

Gabby Douglas had a shot at an all around medal too, she had the third highest individual score. The troube is the top two were also from the USA and only two are allowed to compete in the all around finals. It is tough being on such a loaded team under these rules.

Laurie Hernandez of NJ got robbed by not being able to compete in the all around in womens gymnastics, even though she was 2nd in the US trials. Imagine in any other sport where you finish 2nd and aren't able to be on the team. Yes she will be able to compete in some other events but honestly I hate politics and judges when it comes to sport. And yes, her brother is on the RU track team!

It's hard to argue she got robbed. The team that was chosen took 1,2,3. If anyone got robbed it was Gabby Douglas who came in 3rd yet can't be in the finals due to that stupid 2 athlete per country rule.

Yes it was the 4th and 5th girl chosen that was controversial if anything. The 5th girl chose for the team will maximize the total points (theoretically) for the team? competition on the balance beam, where the others are weaker. Based on the performances last night (so far) Mrs. Karoli and the power that be seem to be right on with the chosen "crew".

Phelps looks like he's about to kill the South African guy.

He was listening to music while watching the TV behind Le Clos. It was incredibly annoying how the announcers were trying to make it seem like there was some sort of pre-race drama going on in there. Both guys were just listening to music and doing their own thing to mentally prepare themselves for the race, but the announcers made it seem like Le Clos was trying to taunt Phelps or something and that Phelps was staring him down. After the race they asked Phelps about it and he said he wasn't even paying attention to him and was just watching the other race on the TV.

Its just as likely she would have also been in the top 3. My point is she was 2nd in the trials, she earned it. Can you imagine the 2nd place finisher in the US Track and Field trials, 100 meters, being told they can only compete in the 4x100 relay and not the open 100 meters?

would you expect Phelps to say anything else? LeClos was clearly taunting him, shadowboxing right in front of him, turning towards him to do it. He was staring him down on the starting platform pre-race as well. LeClos and Phelps have had a rivalry that go back many years, LeClos even beat Phelps in this race back in 2012. #PhelpsFace is now a trending thing on Twitter and I hope #PhelpsWins is what trends after tonight's swim. :americanflag::americanflag:

That's exactly right... Le Clos was trying to get in his head and Phelps knows better then to escalate this any further. Le Clos is the reigning Olympic gold medalist (until tonight) and Michael just let his swimming speak for itself (win or lose). That being said, it made for fun drama.

When did he turn to face Phelps? He turned around and was facing the chair he was using, which wasn't even directly in front of Phelps--it just looked like it because of the diagonal camera angle. Just because he was doing this stuff in front of Phelps makes it a big deal? It was a crowded room and the other swimmers were stretching and getting loose too. Someone was going to be in the area in front of Phelps.

USA vs Brazil rugby on CNBC right now. It's my wife's new favorite sport she absolutely loves it.

Just watched a great soccer match. Canada v Germany. Amazing game winning goal by Canada. Header from free kick that came around 40 yards out. Germany had constant pressure on the Canadian goal the last 10 minutes or so. Canadian's bacon (lol) was saved on a goal line clear by a defender.

Both teams advance.

That was rough to watch. Yikes.

I am seeing our women's teams doing much better than our men's. And with Title 9, they should. Across the board, we are likely spending much more than our world counterparts on women's sports. Our women's contingent was 53% of the athletes we sent- breaking our own record of the most ever. And they will do much better than our men overall. While that is great, our men are declining, and it will be directly correlated to Title 9.

The easy fix is this- carve out football as there is no equal.

Sports like men's gymnastics seem to be the first to be going down due to this.

On NBC sports now USA vs Columbia womens soccer. We're down 0-1.

I can if what played out played out, and it played out with the reigning gold medal champion.

We went 1,2,3. Whatever decision that was made was the right one.

Wow, Solo gets beat again, this time at the 90th minute on a free kick from the corner. Heck of a kick.

That's an embarrassing tie for the US women.

Colombia has never scored in the Olympics and has a roster full of women who are either students or have second jobs.

Solo had a horrible game and we missed more than a few chances. Need to pick it up or the gold isn't coming back.

After that incredibly horrible performance, Serena Williams should be barred from all future Olympics. Of course, we will now be told she was sick, like Venus, or injured, or both.

Carli hit the post twice but one was deflected in by a USA player.

Other than the two young forwards, USA looked really slow and not really 100% into the game. I bet they thought this would be a walkover. Colombia had different ideas.

Pugh looks like a budding star at 18 years of age but jeeze, how many times can you turn the ball over?

I agree. I'll be very surprised if they win the gold .

They're playing like a young team that is incredibly talented but lost some of its key players. There's definitely a lack of "flow" out there right now, and they don't look too good, but let's hope they turn it around and that Carli is fresh and good to go the full 90 from here on out.

Men's volleyball downed by Italy. Still without a point. Terrible.

USA men's rowing pairs doesn't even make the medal round.

Men's volleyball was completely unable to stop the 2 big servers they've faced against Canada and Italy. They're playing great otherwise but that doesn't quite cut it.

I don't think the rowing pairs were expected to make the medal rounds. Our rowing program - both sides other than women's 8's to be honest (maybe that'll change here) has really taken a hit since '94 or so.

So much for all the big talk about beating us, from the Aussie swimmers, the past few months. We're crushing them after the first 3 nights 14-3 (8 to 6 women). WOW!

update: 15-3
