It would be grest to get 12 more outs and not allow any more runs. It would also be nice to field cleqnly and throw accurately

Can’t be stuck at 3 runs since the 2nd inning and expect it to hold up. Brewers have the better bullpen and it’s shown so far.
Can’t give up the lead with their closer looming.

Also can’t wait until churio is a met in a few years

So many missed opportunities compounded by a bad decision to bring in a guy who was a bad matchup.

Why do you have Maton pitch against heart of their lineup?

Diaz or Stanek should have pitched the 8th inning

Maton throws batting practice type of pitches.

Terrible move by Mendoza

You can't say anything bad about Mendoza on this board. He's untouchable. 😉

I like Mendoza but that was an awful move.

Can’t put a pitcher like that against heart of their lineup in a clincher game.

Inning was set up for Diaz or Stanek had Mendoza not wasted him in inning before.

7th inning should have / could have been Maton .

Interesting point raised by Gary Cohen.

What about bringing in Peterson to pitch vs Mitchell.

Mendoza said Peterson wasn’t available

You have Maton pitch against the heart of their lineup because he has been very, very good. And he gives a different look. Sometimes the moves work out. Sometimes they don't.

My preference was that In a playoff clincher - Diaz had to be in there in the 8th vs their best. Our best vs their best ! Don’t lose game with our 3rd or 4th best reliever. That’s what Mendoza did.

Maton had a very rough outing prior to this game fwiw.

It was clear, at least to me, Maton didn’t have it tonight.

He also should have been pulled after the 3 minimum hitters

Not good managerial decisions tonight !

If this were the 2022 Diaz I would agree with you. It isn't.

Maton's last outing was Monday. Hit a batter, got an out, gave up a hit. Was pulled after three batters. Prior to that he had been very good. You could make the case he's been their best reliever. The stats would back you up.

TBH I don't know how you could tell, watching on TV, that he didn't have it tonight. I know I can't.

You make a fair point about pulling him at 3-3. I did not notice who the Mets had up in the bullpen at the time. Was it Diaz?

Actually I think it was Ottavino warming up. Not a lol. Seriously.

The above reinforces my point that Mendoza managed this game as it was more like a regular season game and not a possible playoff clinching game.

I have and have always had much more confidence in Diaz and Butto and even Stanek as of late compared to Maton.

One could also argue he pulled Manea an inning too soon.

He pushed Severino last night. Could have done the same with Manea. Even Manea said he could have went another inning

Oh well.

It wouldn’t be the Mets without agita. Lol

Let’s go Mets tomorrow and win a winner take all game !

I have no idea why you would take a pitcher out who had a 3 up 3 down easy inning.

You can tell by the ease the hitters take pitches and the swings they have on foul balls.
Watching takes and foul balls from the shortstop position, you can pretty much tell when the hitters are right on it and about to hit rocket somewhere

Well yeah, YOU can tell! Most of us ain't you. I sure ain't.

Met's haters sitting on their couch, just waiting in the weeds to pounce. Lol.

Giving up the solo Homer to Churio sucked. But we could have lived with that.
Keeping him in to serve up 2 additional hits, one of which a bomb was mismanagement.
I agree with that. The first three hitters all had exit velos > 100. Even the DP was 101.7. That should have been a red flag.

From today's article in The Athletic--makes sense, and hindsight is 20/20 in life and baseball.

"Two factors influenced the Mets’ decision to turn to Maton for the eighth even though he’d be pitching for the fourth time in five days. First, though closer Edwin Díaz was available, the Mets didn’t want to use him for more than three outs, given Díaz’s heavy usage of late. (Mendoza said, “We were just going to keep it at one inning today,” and Díaz said he was told to be ready to secure four outs if necessary.)

Second, they liked Maton’s cutter against Chourio’s swing. Chourio’s expected numbers against cutters were worse than those against fastballs and sliders: Of the 22 home runs he’d hit up to that point this season, nine had been on fastballs, four on sliders and none on cutters.

That’s why they went with Maton over keeping Stanek and his hard four-seam fastball in the game, and that’s why they preferred to hold Díaz for the middle of the order in the ninth.

“The whole time we were going through the situation, we wanted a Maton-Chourio matchup,” Mendoza said. “It just didn’t work.”

Sounds like Quintana until any trouble
Peterson out of the pen
Then maybe Garrett with Diaz for 6 outs if needed

Brewers another pitcher. Decent year , hasn’t pitched more then 4 innings in while

Brewers bullpen shut the mets down last night, really hoping they don't repeat that. assuming any pitcher who went last night is able to go again tonight
