OT: 2024 NY Mets Season Thread

I'm still nervous about this group other than Senga. All are back end of the rotation guys, which is fine during the season. You roll in and out of cities and teams don't micro focus on you. Playoffs is where some of these guys would get exposed.
This just seems like storytelling. As if teams don’t try or scout during the regular season, or as if trying and scouting doesn’t happen equally for pitching and hitting.

To the extent a pitcher performs worse over a large sample size in the playoffs, it would be because the select group of teams that make the playoffs on average have better hitters than the selection of all teams in the regular season.

No bullpen critiques today?
Butto has been a major addition to the pen.

As has the return of Diaz.

Was thinking how choppy Diaz's season has been so far. The "injury", the suspension, the ASB. Don't want to be accused of jinxing anything, so I'll just say he's been really good since coming back from the IL. Whatever was ailing him early it seems that time off has allowed him to find his game. WHIP well below 1. Got his overall ERA back below 4 with today's perfect 9th.

I stated my case for my day one after ASB yesterday. Nunes and the other guy who does not deserve his name to remembered were a disaster in the 8th inning. That was my snapshot of the bullpen performance, and unlike me most of the time, I posted reflexively on that one inning. Didn't even check the score or play by play. But my second post point still stands. The Marlins suck and are should not be a yardstick or even an inchstick for progress. You don't measure progress by one or two games. There, I fell on my own sword. Let me do it again. Nunes redeemed himself yesterday. Let's see how the bullpen does going forward.

There is an adage in baseball: You're never as good as you look when things are going well, and you're never as bad as you look when they're not.

This team is not as good as it looked in June. Nor is it as bad as it looked in May. It is what we thought it was, a mid-level team which if things break right, could sneak a playoff spot.
