If you mean from the HR Derby, I agree with '78. Irrelevant.
Pete is losing money as he is on pace for his worst year ever. Pretty simple and yet- may be good for us to save $5 mil a year on his contract. I still want him here for his career and can't believe so many fans do not

Let's see how the rest of the season goes before deciding that he's lost money on a new contract. But, if he does, the HR derby will have had nothing to do with it.

you realize I said the HR derby has nothing to do with it. It is his sub year. Yes, he can go on a run but even with a Judge paced run, he can maybe get up to his normal. If he has a 40+ 110+ year- no money lost and he becomes highest paid 1B...Under 40 and under 110- he gets good money but will not be the highest paid.

I don't think I saw that, but OK.

I don't think he needs anything like a Judge paced run to get back to 40. And he has met Judge's pace at times.

It's funny- at first, I thought the same thing- it is only ASB- but then realized that we are 95 games in, not the normal 85 or so games and then it becomes one hell of a thing to hit 20+ in just under 70 games- he can do it but man, will be tough

Since there is nothing to discuss for two whole days, I would like to discuss uniforms.

Mets are unique in that they have four home uniforms, but only one road uniform - the classic gray that hasn't changed much from 1962.

Here is my ranking of the four home uniforms:

1) Blue with orange trim. It just pops. The fans are true to the orange and blue.

2) Classic white pinstripe. Could do without the pinstripes (was that Casey's idea?) but otherwise timeless.

3) Black with blue trim. As a rule I dislike black uniforms unless black is your color. However, if you are going to use them, the blue trim just doesn't work. Can't read the names and numbers. As RU fans, been there, done that.

4) (A DISTANT fourth) - The City Connects - What color exactly is that? Is it even a color, or the absence of color? The City Connects are supposed to connote the vibrancy of the home city. These uniforms connote - mud? And again, what's with the pinstripes? And no love for Queens?

Fire away.

For the colors of the city connect the gray is supposed to represent the concrete jungle and then the purple for the 7 line. As for everything else they do have some Queens representation with the Queensboro bridge.

  • The pinstripes on both the shirts and pants are made up of circles and diamonds, representing New York City’s local and express subway lines.
  • The letters “NYC” across the front are meant to pay tribute to the entire city, not just Queens.
  • The sleeve patch is designed to evoke a New York City subway token.
  • The front of the hat features a cross-section of the steelwork on the Queensboro Bridge.
  • Inside the cap is an artistic interpretation of the New York City subway map.
  • Player names on the back are written in the font that the Mets have historically only used on the fronts of their away jerseys.
  • Near the bottom of the uniform top is a purple inscription reading “The World’s City.”

Mets are stocking up on Young lefthanded pitching. They now have two - Alex and Danny. Neither Young is young by baseball standards (both 31). Danny is the slightly younger Young.

My guess is that sometime soon, Alex and Danny will trade places. Alex did have 63 appearances last year with the Reds. His stats are kind of meh, but for this bullpen, "meh" is a step in the right direction.

1 & 2 are both great. I hate the black but the City Connect are in the top 10 of all time worst uniforms ever. Gray is not typically a favorite color of anyone but it’s the ugliest shade ever and everything about the uniform is bad. The Mets road uniforms prove that you can go gray great, however.

It’s funny that list of starters actually look good now compared to a month ago…
I'm still nervous about this group other than Senga. All are back end of the rotation guys, which is fine during the season. You roll in and out of cities and teams don't micro focus on you. Playoffs is where some of these guys would get exposed.

That is why I prefaced the last month…lol

Which is an argument for selling at least one of them, as I think they may.

I don't get why you keep saying you sell one of them. A questionable staff becomes even more suspect when you take one away. It's not like the Mets have a stud in waiting to fill in. I always thought you kept at least 7 starters around for the season because sh*t happens. If the Mets did it the way you're thinking, then the Mets are shorthanded if something happens to one of the starters.

My thoughts exactly- you want a guy in the back pocket making the playoff run

I think the ASB should help the pen a lot. With the Diaz stuff and starters not going long Mendoza had to throw these guys into the deep end way too much, especially Garrett. Once we get out of the break the pen should have some rest and Mendoza can go back to having some more clearly defined roles which hopefully helps. Diaz 9th, Nunez 8th, Maton Garrett Butto middle relief and can see if Otto and Diekman bounce back. Houser and Orze in long relief/clean-up.
So far the ASB seems to have made the bullpen worse......

Whoever said bullpen was a crapshoot was partially correct
Bullpen is just Crap
Love to give up that extra run before last at bat

Me fears a very difficult 10 game swoon starting with tonight

I don’t like what I’m seeing of JD and Pete as of late.

Would have been nice had Bader simply gotten a sacrifice fly ball in the 8th inning

You are describing a team whose rotation is not good enough to make a WS run, no?

If so, I happen to agree with you. If the Mets make the playoffs, they will likely be in a pitching matchup disadvantage in every game they play.

So why not do some limited selling out of surplus (starting rotation), while doing limited buying in areas of scarcity (bullpen)?

Change of topic. Justin Verlander is scheduled to throw another bullpen tomorrow. 25 pitches, same as he did on Sunday.

If that goes well, it would appear that he would need at least two rehab assignments before returning to the Astros rotation. If so, the maximum number of MLB starts he could get is 11 - and that's pushing it. More likely 10.

He needs 83 innings to guarantee his 2025 contract. Not happening. Unless they let him rehab in the majors, which I doubt.

Looks like we're fine here as long as he doesn't get a start in before August 1. That date looks unlikely. That's a good amount of money saved.

Not understanding two things…after tonight- the talk that the bullpen got worse in this one game…WTF?
And- expecting a swoon from it.
We were down big time and made a heck of a run to bring it to 1 run. Showed me a lot of life in the team still.

Three innings, one run. Give me that all year, and I'll take my chances.

Bullpen was not the problem tonight.

What?

1 run over 4. Dumb post is dumb. At least wait until someone gives up multiple runs. Aren't you always talking about negative Mets fans? I thought you were better than this.
Ha, ha. No need to get so personal. My frame of reference -- turned game on in 8th inning. Nunez was a disaster. Balked runner to second. Stolen base. Run scores. Young throws a wild pitch that was about 10 feet outside.

We are going to crow about 1 run against the lowly Marlins? Worst team in NL. Kudos to the rest of the pen. But the Mets need to win games against bottom dwellers.

On last night's small sample size, is it OK to say Nunez got worse?
