OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

What Cleveland defense takes it gives right back.

And what's with Yankee Stadium lights constantly dimming going into commercial breaks?

Uhhh, spend the off day talking about baserunning please. Should never happen at the major league level in June, let alone the playoffs.

Thank goodness that ball was bobbled in right field allowing Volpe to score.

Surely you jest
Not as much as you think. The worst thing in sports is an all-world regular season player that continuously tanks in the playoffs. The true greats are great when it matters most. He needs to change this narrative ASAP.

I never knew Weaver was 31 until yesterday. He really does have a seriously boyish face.

Half way to Nirvana. Great seeing Judge breaking out of it. Yankees base running is horrendous only outdone by Cleveland defense.
Amazing that both are the best in the AL.

Very down year for the entire AL. After 15 years of s'ing the bed in the playoffs, I am still dubious of the Yanks. But they are proving me wrong as of now.

So you put down Stanton and Judge and called the Yankees heartless by saying that Royals had heart and would win the series… umm yeah any other predictions you want to make so I can bet the exact opposite?

Yanks will still lose this series. 15 years of choking in the playoffs isn't wise to ignore. Hope I'm wrong.
Bet on that one.

At some point, in someone's back office, the correct question is going to be asked as to whether or not Rojas is actually a competent third base coach.

How many Yankees have been here for all of those fifteen years ?
It must be something in the uniforms.

If you're referring to Volpe...Rojas was well advised to hold him up.
Fortunately, Volpe glanced to RF and saw the bobble.

It's not a secret that this team does not run the bases well. It's not Rojas' fault that many of these veterans are just lazy baserunners.

And just for reference, who is tasked with working with these so-called "lazy baserunners" on a daily basis?

I'll never understand why the Yankees are the only MLB club that uses analytics. 😱
Analytics are used differently by every team. Everyone uses different data. So they all use it but it's not the same. The biggest flaws the Yankees use is strikeouts are equal as all other outs. Second is they use a much older data then other teams. Matchups that happens over a season ago aren't used by many teams. Yankees also don't Boone to use his intuition. Everything is planned out by the geeks Cashman uses. None of them played baseball at any level.

With the amount of negativity in this thread you would think we didn't even make the playoffs rather than being 2 wins from the WS.
Now you've gone and done it. The TKR jinx's is now in play!
My only complaint was that the two teams in the ALCS were playing like little league teams with the all the poor defensive and collosal running mistakes.
Yankees need to close this out early. The Dodgers need to win in 7 games and again have to go with 2 bullpen games.

I look at it differently.
There are physical mistakes and there are mental mistakes.

Use the two blunders at 2nd base as examples...Jazz at 2nd base and no one out. You have to know where the shortstop is standing. And watch the catcher...he motioned with his throwing hand on the pick off.
Regarding Rizzo...two outs...he's running on contact and with 2 outs will score on anything to the outfield...zero need to try for 3rd.
Those are mental mistakes by veteran players.
A 3rd base coach can't fix "stupid".
Both outs were mental mistakes.

I agree that vets shouldn't be making mistakes like this and it can't always be the coaches fault. We're just lucky it didn't come back and bite us.

I think you missed my point. Mistakes happen, both physical and mental. There is no perfection. But as a fan during a deep playoff run to a potential title..... if your main or only focus is mistakes, deficiencies, problems or firing Cashman - after a win to go 2-0 in the ALCS mind you......just seems a bit off to me.

For me.....mistakes obsession after a loss. Fire Cashman talk in the offseason. Deep run in the playoffs....enjoy the ride.

Game 3 Yankees at Cleveland First pitch is set for 5:08 p.m. ET at Progressive Field on Thursday.
Yankees starting lineup today:
  1. Gleyber Torres, 2B
  2. Juan Soto, RF
  3. Aaron Judge, CF
  4. Giancarlo Stanton, DH
  5. Jazz Chisholm Jr., 3B
  6. Jon Berti, 1B
  7. Anthony Volpe, SS
  8. Alex Verdugo, LF
  9. Jose Trevino, C
Couple of comments.
Anytime Giancarlo Stanton is moved up into the third or fourth spot, he tends to do worse than when he's hot and hitting lower in the order.
Why is the .178 hitter (Chisolm) moved UP to 5th and the guy batting .278 (Volpe) moved DOWN to 7th?
Is Rizzo hurt and can't play? He would have been the logical choice to bat 4th, keeping Stanton at 5th.
At least Austin Wells is out of the clean-up spot. Don't know if the offense in that spot improves but it sure can't get worse.
The 7,8,9 guys may wind up producing more offense than the 4,5,6 guys.

Temperatures tonight in Cleveland are suppose to go down to 38 degrees.

Amazingly he is playing this postseason despite fracturing fingers on his right hand late September. 😮
