OT: 6 Notre Dame players arrested overnight.

It was 99% local media that were on RU and Flood and rightfully so, it was one incident after another, led by the coach himself.

I would not be surprised at the South Bend news media being all over this, in todays media, if it bleeds, it leads. Negative and sensational stories are what brings in ratings.

This will be all over the news and apparently already is on ESPN. A few years back, ND's QB got into a bar fight and it was all over the national news. I don't even remember much national news coverage of Rutgers' issues last year.

Since there are so many ND fans in the area ("subway alumni") the Ledger should be making a big deal out of it. But they won't. Because at other schools "boys will be boys". At Rutgers it's "see, this is what happens when you try and play big time football".

Guns are legal in US and marijuana is legal in many states so there is nothing here unless you are a ND hater.

They did not have a permit for the handgun and the State of Indiana (unlike NY & NJ) honors permits from other states as well.

They'll report it along with reminding people what went on at RU last year. NJ.com will link previous stories about the fight, break-ins and Carroo.

It's what they do.

In 2 separate incidents last night. 5 pulled over in car with loaded guns marijuana. Another was arrested in a different incident.

Will media be as critical to them as they were to RU last September?

I'm sure this will be reported, as some subsequent posts show. What I doubt will happen will be the continuous follow up coverage lasting well into the season that the SL did to Rutgers. They wouldn't let the story die.

At least there were no home robberies involved. All is ok in South Bend. Nothing to see

Guys, the stuff that our players were busted for last year was more serious than being stopped by a cop for having marijuana and
some possibly unlicensed guns. The only exception is the charge for battery on a police officer.
I hope you're only talking about the burglaries because the majority of the players were busted for getting in a fight over a parking spot if I recall correctly - which to me isn't even in the same ballpark as an unlicensed handgun.

Of course nj.com will ignore it. No reason for them to waste resources on it.

I was referring to the national media that bashed us..think we will hear crickets from them.

No excuses for last season's arrests but as another poster pointed out only the home burglary which involved a FORMER graduated player and current player was the main issue...the others are in PTI for the fight ...Ruhann Peele was denied PTI only because of previous legal issues...the others are I believe still students ...the older Stephenson kid had already graduated and was not an active player...the Notre Dame problem will go away quite rapidly and the mid-west media and Catholic Church will see that it does...

football players, who have more heft than most people, should not get into fistfights with "civilians" about anything. Too many bad things can happen.

Different argument (and I agree they shouldn't be getting into fights) - my point was that being in possession of an unlicensed handgun is worse than getting in fight over a parking space.

You're right, driving around with an unlicensed, fully loaded gun is not serious whatsoever.

And let's be clear on that fight: they were there at the scene of the fight, but only one or two were actually involved. Yet NJ has a statute which allows everyone to be charged if the number involved is over a certain limit.

At least their coach wasn't going to the incognito to the Purdue library meeting a professor and pushing him to let his player have another shot as his homework

espn article states that some of the players were charged with possession of a handgun without a license., a misdemeanor in Indiana....in N.J.... mandatory jail time. and second degree felony.

Thank you DJ for posting this. I had an argument at the beach today with a women I didn't know, about RU football. she saw my hat asked me if any football players were beating up their girlfriends and dragging them around by the hair. I asked her if she knew what really happened with the whole Leonte "fight". She then went into the "riot" and I had to explain to her that only two players got charged a misdemeanor the other ones were not charged. I tried saying how disappointed I was but the school leaders cleaned house because that is not what Rutgers is about , even if most of the charges were dropped.

Of course she then went into the football program is bankrupting the school, I just walked away. Problem is some of our own fans do not know what really happened.

No assault occurred and there were no injuries sustained as there were in the LEO being struck or the young guy punched over a parking dispute.
That's right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing wrong having as gun ( licensed or not) around while taking a few tokes .
Not saying the gun is bad, nor saying a few totes are bad, but saying the combo is bad.
The police smelled marijuana, so can't say tote comment is false, but can't say it's true.
Just saying if true combo could be deadly, just like drinking booze and carrying guns while doing so isn't advisable.

Defending the Notre Dame players by comparing what they did to what others were arrested for is bad.

It is a misdemeanor charge there and the parking space assault caused a serious injury. The violence is committed by people as the resultant injuries are, not by inanimate objects. Violence is a people problem.
