OT: Alabama

Just dig a hole and bury that place. What scumbags.

I guess it just means more.
If they were smart, you know suspend him for the rest of the regular season and reinstate for the NCAA.
Say all the right things and you then have a cover story for the school that you did the right thing and now that he is cleared, we look forward to him getting his life back together during the tournament

Imagine being an alabama fan watching the game and cheering for this coach and player knowing what sort of people they are.

Guess who started tonight for Bama?

Roll Tide!
Both Miller and Bradley.

The crowd chanted "Lock him up," every time Miller touched the ball.

He used that energy to fuel a 41 point 8 rebound performance.

Bradley scored 6 points.

Tide won.

If a player hasn't broken the law or a university policy why should that player be suspended?

People are “suspended pending investigation” all of the time. When we are talking about something as serious as murder, feels warranted. Especially if things are still fluid in the actual police investigation.

This is where I'm getting lost.

Usually it's "player was involved in incident and ongoing investigation. suspended until legal process plays out".

Isn't the legal process over? He's in the clear. So much for "innocent until proven guilty" and due process.

Unless the angle is "the legal process is corrupt and covering it up" which seems doubtful with all the media attention now.

Accurate summary of tonight’s events.

What is your point?

It was shown in the investigation that he gave the gun to Miles. Just because he wasn’t charged, probably bc he sang like a bird, doesn’t mean a coach or administration can’t say “Nope, we don’t want you to represent us. You chose to use a gun irresponsibly, and if not for that, a woman may still be alive.”

As I stated in a previous post if the school/coach doesn't take some sort of disciplinary action you are saying that it's OK for one of your players to drive around in the early morning hours with a loaded handgun in the car bringing it to a friend who is at a bar/club and is in some kind of dispute/altercation with someone else.

That's OK as long as you don't break the law.

The school is not going to do anything unless he's brought up on charges. There is no way to determine suspension on moral grounds with no criminal aspect, or a violation of university policy. Technically Alabama doesn't have to do anything, even though morally you can't justify him playing

Christ...this is Alabama. They have a chance at a national title.
Do you know what that means to Alabama ?

How about "Conduct detrimental to the team"?
This was not a "wrong place, wrong time" situation. It's not like he was driving the car and the guy pulled out a gun that he didn't know about and did something. I understand that once he gave the gun to it's owner if he gave it to someone else he isn't legally responsible. But take him out of the equation and that young girl would be alive.

According to the police report that isn't what happened .

I have no clue of the accuracy but there is an official police report. I suggest you read it. I just did.

The police do not consider him a suspect in their investigation.

If that's the case why shouldn't he play ?

Players are suspended for breaking team rules that aren't law or university policy.
The team or athletic department could have a general ethical conduct rule.
They probably couldn't compete in SEC football if they did though.

Lewis was originally charged with double murder but after two weeks in jail it was reduced to "Obstruction of Justice". Only an All Pro and future HOFer in the NFL can have charges of double murder pleaded down to Obstruction.

I wonder how many have actually read or watched any actual reports. A lot of wild and inaccurate speculation.

Reportedly Miller dropped off Miles and left. Came back to get him later. Miles was waiting over an hour for Miller to get him. When he was almost there, Miller texted about needing his gun.
Gun which was allegedly in a pile of clothes in the back. Also no reports of Miller handing Miles the gun.

Also, Miller got their before the boyfriends Jeep and didn’t intentionally block it.

Can only take the reporting as facts unless someone has something.

Miles texted Miller something to effect of "need my gun, this guy here is getting into it with me".

Based on that I'm at a loss as to how Miller isn't in any kind of trouble with the law.

another example of our holier than thou fanbase believing what they want to believe instead of the facts. said all along no one's skating on murder charges no matter their celebrity, period. pathetic to even believe that.

A few things to think about from the report:
  • Miller's intention was always to pick up Miles from the club and not to give him a gun.
  • Miller was already on his way there when the text was sent. Did he read it?
  • Miles grabbed the gun from Miller's back seat under a bunch of clothes.
  • Miller parked before the person who was shot got there so there was no intention of blocking the car.
  • Sounds like there's a video of the whole altercation that backs all this up. I have to imagine it will be released and we can finally stop speculating.
So, according to the report, Miller didn't go there to give Miles the gun, didn't give him the gun, and didn't block the victims car. What exactly should he be suspended for? Being out late?

Exactly. We see it often for lesser incidents but something along the lines of "violation of team rules" could be invoked, unless there are no such team rules of course.

That's not exactly the entire story.
From the above article Miller was already on his way and almost there when the text came in. And he didn't say "gun" but a slang "joint". I don't know how plausible deniability works legappy when someone uses slang.

He said Alabama didn't know of Miles' text message asking Miller to bring the gun to the scene until police testified to it in the court hearing Tuesday. Alabama officials also learned that Miller had already been on his way to pick up Miles when the text arrived. Byrne added that Miles had wanted to be picked up for "close to an hour" before Miller made his way over and was "already almost there" when the text arrived.

The text that Miles allegedly sent to Miller, according to the testimony, included a slang term for wanting his gun: "I need my joint."
