OT: Bob Huggins

The university responded, spoke with Huggins' attorney multiple times, the guy cleaned out his office and gave his resignation speech to his team.

Maybe he wants to be fired with cause, problem is he already resigned. He has no argument. Bottom line the guy is a drunk and needs help, his health should be his focus.

A ploy to settle out of court for ‘an undisclosed amount’, which would be close to but below how much WVU would pay a law firm to litigate.

He didn’t clean out the office. He was in lock down. His wife would’ve done everything including correspondence with the lawyer. This technicality gives him a leg to stand on.

Probably. I doubt he’s doing this to claim unemployment benefits but a resignation would also make him ineligible for that.

And their fans don't appear to be thrilled that the football coach is returning for another year.
They have no money to buy him out because they’ve spent the last few years spending money on capital projects that don’t produce revenue and the well has dried up.

WVU athletics is in a bad bad place all around.

You didn’t read the WVU letter. He came in and cleaned out his office. Talked with people in the athletics department.

Then that had to have happened immediately following the incident since he then checked into rehab. WVU really messed up here not playing it by the book because now he’s going to say everything he said at that time was when was when he wasn’t in his right state of mind and that he did what he did because he didn’t know what would happen next. His addiction spiraled out of control, etc. But no decision was official. He’s then sought help and is now taking the steps to resume his position. The school doesn’t have any official paperwork. It’s going to be a problem for them.

That would be an incredible turn of events if that were to occur. He blew a .21 bac with empties in the car.
Oh I agree. But didn’t his statement say the charges were dismissed? If that isn’t true it will come out in court obviously and he’d clearly be wasting his time and legal fees.

His new lawyer claimed they were "close" to being dropped. I have no idea how. Will believe it when I see it.

His formal arraignment is August 17th. So between July 3rd and now he claims charges were dropped? Well we will know soon enough. Get me his lawyer if all this turns out true. They still can fire him for cause though.

Here's what his lawyer said a couple days ago in a letter to WVU:

"We look forward to WVU’s explanation for these false statements, but the facts are clear and undisputed. Specifically, Coach Huggins was involved in an incident in Pittsburgh that is now close to being fully resolved without charges."

My point is that IF that happens (and yes, it would be a disgrace if it does - but that’s a different conversation entirely) - WVU might not then have the grounds for Fire for Cause unless his contract specifically says they could fire him for cause if he ever touches alcohol (maybe it does). If no charges - all they have on him officially is a situation where he fell off the wagon and sought help for it. The offensive slurs would be irrelevant to Fire for Cause as he already survived that.

Yup agreed. Although I'm sure WVU has a ton of dirt on him if it comes to that. Grab your popcorn

They will pull out every skeleton in his closet. Plus he was publicly intoxicated. His new contract can fire him for cause. Rightfully so. At their discretion. He will fight it and get a payment but he is not coaching again.

he'll get a payment to go away and I feel this fight is more about the payment he wants then returning to coach WV.
WV will negotiate a settlement Huggins will find acceptable and then find another good program in need of turning itself to give him their HC job in a year

I like how the lawyer just refers to himself as "Bob" 😂
I wanted to mock him further, but checked out his profile and found a couple of impressive things. I like professionals who came up the "hard way." Other than his use of "myself," he seems good:

"Bob attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he graduated with highest honors and was inducted into the Heusler Honor Society while achieving his Juris Doctorate degree. Throughout High School, College and Law School Bob worked during summer and Christmas vacations on permit for Local 83 United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Steamfitters and Sprinklerfitters of the United States where His father and brothers were all members."

He's done well:
"Bob Fitzsimmons has tried more than 150 trials and has achieved more than 150 verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million."

WVU looking for savings amid shrinking enrollment.

Math, English, law, education on WVU chopping block.

Football, basketball appear safe.
