I have a Chocolate Lab/Shih Tzu mix (or Chocolate Shitz) named Exlax

Golden Retreiver named Torrey, after Torrey Pine. We name all our dogs after trees (we are both foresters). Last was Willow (Willie), before that was Aspen.

Sophie
Shelter mutt - your guess is as good as mine

Great thread. May a Pirate join in?

A Pug, Muggsy
A French Bulldog, Madeline
A Pug, MeToo

All sweet, loving, and just a tad overweight.

We have a chicken collie named Colby (only has chickens, no sheep to herd). He's the epitome of an alpha male dog - very controlling and vocally competitive with his neighbor dog friends responding to every bark he hears by barking the loudest and longest... always has to get the last bark in.

Also a Shelter Mutt out of Newark. She absolutely picked up instead of the other way around.

Hound/Pitt Mix Named Calliope. As I started typing this she moved over from her bed to join me on the couch knowing I was discussing her. She's basically a 60 lb baby...not a bad bone in her but her bark might scare a few people away.

Your dog and I have something in common.

Hey Alden1, I feel your pain our Great Pyrenees does nothing but bark responding to the neighborhood dogs then keeps barking forever. Also hates leaves that drop and must warn us of the imminent danger that lurks as they may crash to earth and destroy it. Are dogs don't so much herd or guard our chickens and goats, however they do make good chase toys.

How's that Shepard, Real...good with kids?

She's good in every way. Loves people, loves attention, loves kids.

Shepherds (from a reputable breeder with solid lineage) are among the best of dogs. They do everything well. There are really only three drawbacks to the breed:
  1. They whine. They are notorious whiners. It's utterly incongruous, how something that looks so fierce and intimidating - and is fully capable of living up to those appearances - can sometimes act like such a little girl.
  2. They lack "grace". The larger ones (mine typically runs between 120 - 130 lbs) have little to no actual awareness of their size. The phrase "bull in a china shop" comes to mind often.
  3. Fur. They shed. They never stop. The shed a LOT. I've managed to overcome most of this through quarterly groomings. You can brush them all day, every day, but it's no use unless you let a professional take a shot at it once every few months.

Man, I so want a dog. He could have 38 acres to roam. But we just travel too much to be fair to a dog. So we have the alpacas shown in my avatar.

Also had the world's coolest cat, but we lost him last September, probably to a possum trap. REALLY miss the cat. Meaner than a rattlesnake, but no rabbits or mice within miles of our place. "Taniwha" (Maori for a type of monster from a legend.)

Skillet - I somehow missed that you'd lost your Bengal. My condolences. They are a fascinating cat-owning experience.

Bump up the weight from 130 to 195 and, you could be describing my buddy, Caliknight. Particularly item #3.

Thanks, 4Real. Really tough loss. The rascal would bring in rabbits and hares way bigger than him (and he was 14 pounds -- all muscle). Not much of a snuggler but friendly around people. Just wanted to spend about 20 hours of every 24 out hunting.

That lab/beagle mix looked pretty cool!

Just recently we suddenly lost our 8 1-2 year old chocolate labradoodle, Theo. My good friend. We were devastated.

We've also had a yellow lab, Winnie, and a Ridgeback, Kato. All of them were truly part of the family in every way.

The grief when you lose a beloved pet is very very real. But at the same time, what they bring to our lives while they're with us is something only pet owners understand.

I think mdh2003's dog might be one too.

mdh, does your dog's ears go straight up or do they flop? And does her tail fishhook?
Johnny - smallish floppy ears and very slight fishhook on the tail. I was thinking maybe a rat terrier mix, but I can see a Carolina mix. She's a real cutie and loves to cuddle. A little too big for a lapdog, but that doesn't stop her from trying. She is also pretty protective, athletic, and tough as nails. Has gone round and round with more than one groundhog - she hates those guys.

Has anybody used doggie DNA tests before? Just wondering if it's worth the money - Linky.

What is the dog Daniel Tosh has? Our dog is the spitting image. We adopted the poor mutt and told it was a cock a poo, but it looks more like a Havanese after seeing Tosh's pooch.

This is my beautiful Great Dane Scarlet. So famous they named a walk after her ;) Has never missed a home tailgate since I got her as a puppy over 8 years ago.

Scarlet hangs out in the RV. Most games games she isn't alone.
And I have noticed $ S. Often think that was done on purpose to remind people to donate

Maybe just my system, but all I see are two boxes with question marks in them.

When I posted them earlier the photos were up. Now not so much

Well she is white with black patches over both eyes, one black ear. Two big black circles on her back towards the tail almost in a figure 8. Has tons of little black spot on her skin that show through the hair (but not visible in the pics). 55lbs. Muscular build, people ask if she is a pit bull.
