Going to be in Cape May for a weekend with the wife next month. Looking to to Cape May ferry as a day trip. Is it worth it? Anything to do when we get over to Delaware ? Not looking to bring the car on the ferry and drive far, just looking for a ferry ride and something to do over there if that's possible.

Thanks folks.

When you get across to Delaware, I think there are shuttle buses that take you to nearby outlet shopping or into the town of Lewes (but I don't know if there is anything worthwhile in Lewes).

You also have the option of just taking the boat back to Cape May .... a nice little roundtrip boat ride.

Downtown Lewes is definitely worth a trip, good places to eat, shop. And I'll be damned, there is a bikepath for Dogfish, little under 8 miles. That's definitely worth a visit. Hit it up every year on our trip down to the area. The outlets aren't anything we don't have up here, except you're going to avoid sales tax on anything you buy.

But do a little research on Tripadvisor for Lewes, close by and plenty to do in an afternoon.

Aside from Dogfish Head, there is not a whole lot to see in Lewes. Unless you have seen all the sights in Cape May, the Wildwoods, Stone Harbor and Avalon and have run out of things to do, I'd put a trip to Lewes pretty far down on the list. Plus the trip is a long one (three hours round trip) so you are eating up over half a day.

Lewes is an historic town, so if you like that sort of thing (and if you're going to Cape May, you may well), it's nice, and there are some good restaurants. Other than that, it's the outlets (and, I guess, the bike trail to Dogfish Head).

There is a pretty decent chance of seeing dolphins - we see them about one trip out of three, but it depends on weather and tides.

It's a lovely ride, too.

If you enjoy riding bicycles highly recommend. New bike path. Including Dogfish Head Brewery

My wife and i take our bikes on the ferry every summer and ride to Rehobeth, its a great bike ride on an old RR track bed through the woods. Nice scenery and it takes you right into town where there are plenty of places to eat, including Dogfish head. I enjoy the ferry ride itself too. Last week we took our bikes along Bay Rd in West Cape May along the Delaware Bay. Thats a nice ride too and lunch at Harpoon Harry's is highly recommended. Good beer choices, good food and it has a Key West vibe to it with views of the bay. We plan on heading back there for a night to catch the sunset while enjoying good food and drink.

If you enjoy Barbecue, Bethany Blues in Lewes has top notch BBQ well worth the trip. Bring a strong appetite and enjoy.

The ferry lands pretty much in the middle of nowhere in Lewes. It is not walking distance to anything of value. You will need a car, a bicycle, or some sort of shuttle option to see anything of value. I do not know what the shuttle situation is like at the ferry.
