OT: Chapman Suspended 30 Games

Of all the teams in the Major Leagues the Yankees don't need a reliever in April.

Is Chapman going to appeal? And if not then Chapman will basically be out for the month of April. The Yankees can do just fine without him in the first month. Of course the bigger concern for me is can the Yankees actually hit and sustain an offense?

Half their Starting Pitchers are giant question marks health wise. Does any GM do less with his budget than Brian Cashman ?? He would have been long gone if George S was still alive.

There was a domestic violence issue before the trade. I am sure you can find it.

Here's the deal, if the suspension was for 45 days or more he
would lose his free agency, hence he would be a Yankee for
this year and next. He was loud and clear he would appeal
a suspension. So the commissioner made a deal with him,
not wanting the headaches of an appeal. The deal was, agree
to not appeal, and we will give you a 30 day suspension. Chapman
desperately wanted his free agency and agreed. Smart move by
both parties.

Contrary to popular belief, the Yankees are not just an ATM that prints money. Their profit last year was under 10 million dollars. Despite their desire to win, they've learned that throwing more money out to make more big/bad deals isn't the way to go.

Should a team need a 250 million dollar payroll to win? No. You can blame Cashman for SOME of the long term issues, but how many of those deals are his idea alone or were foisted upon him from his owners? Nobody really knows and as usual the truth is probably somewhere in between. I think it's incredibly naive and short-sighted to constantly rip on him as a talentless GM. He clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to trading and managing a roster.

I actually think it's pretty remarkable they've been as good as they have with so much dead money on the payroll. You can thank him for the Evoaldi's, Castro's, Gregorious', Pineda's he's acquired that have kept us competitive. If they can reset the luxury tax, things will change in a heartbeat.

10 million profit...lol

Where did you get that figure - maybe on the beer sales alone?
The Players Union can't even get into the teams books but evidently you can....

The case was dropped, no charges filed, as there wasn't a single shred of evidence (or corroborating witness to her side of the story...) pointing to any such violence. The issue here was the gunshots he fired and, yeah, MLB had to do something about that no doubt.

Cashman is doing just fine.

Do you guys this aroldis will be here beyond this season?

Crap. This is the second time I have clicked on this thread thinking it was about Happy Chapman.

Sorry, I meant operating income. My point is, they make a lot of money and spend lots of it too. They can't have an infinite payroll and Cashman has done a good job of keeping them competitive while in a rebuild. Impatient people need to get that through their thick heads.

He was glad to take a 30 games suspension and agree not to appeal,
because this guarentees free agency at the end of the year, so what
do you think? He will be going for the gold, so he can add to his gun collection.

IMO the Steinbrenner boys are not as interested in winning as their dad was.
Why else would the Yanks....who have not won a playoff game since 2012....be the only team in MLB to not sign a single free agent in the off-season ?

To be fair, has there been anyone in the history of organized sports more committed to winning than the Boss? He was the greatest owner I've ever seen.

Unbelievably ridiculous that MLB is allowing this dummy to travel w team and participate in spring training. Looks like they threw NYY a bone in that one..

Dear Met fan, How can this be throwing a bone, if they take away
practice then it would another 5 or 6 weeks, secondly if they were throwing
the Yanks a bone they would have suspended him 45 days.
