OT: Eagles

It's essentially a 2 year, $46ish million commitment for the Colts so the contract really isn't the issue, it's whether or not his 2020 play is the norm moving forward or if it's something more like the middle of what he showed in 2017 and what he showed in 2020.
This. Its not a lot of money. Stafford's cost to LA Rams next year is $23 million. People were disappointed with 2019 but without most of his recievers he put up very good numbers. Contrary to comments made earlier on here he is still very mobile with his best yards per game this season.

The Eagles have been pushing this salary cap hell down the road for what seems like 10 years. Well, if finally hit them. As a fan, it got me my super bowl. I am willing to sit through this mess now in exchange.
Oh I wholeheartedly agree. We could be like the Saints who have went down the same path the last few years and are looking to come out of with nothing to show for it.

But they could've done a better job at managing the cap after the SB win, the Alshon contract for example was horriible.

I am not following, his contract runs through 2024 what happens to the other 51m?

Like all big contracts in the NFL. Its only guaranteed for a few years. He can be cut after 2022.

Wentz traded to Colts:

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade star quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder, league sources tell ESPN.

The Eagles will receive the 85th overall pick in this year's draft, and the conditional second-rounder can become a first-round pick based on Wentz's playing time, according to sources. Wentz needs to play at least 75% of the Colts' offensive snaps for the 2022 conditional pick to convey to a first-rounder, according to sources.

So those idiots finally did it. The guy had exactly one receiver as a TE during his time there. But don't fire Howie - the owner's BF. Nope let him continue to ruin the team. L-O-L. The only thing Howie can actually do well historically is manage the cap. And he's put them in cap hell over the last couple of years. Yet they keep him on and get rid of the QB they never drafted any talent for. Thank you for making my dumping football so easy,

$12 million of 2022 cap figure is roster bonus money due by the Colts this year but not applied till next season. They cost of 2 years to the Colts is $46 million

Hopefully Reich can fix him. The Eagles are at least 2 years away from any shot at contending, so a future 1 (hopefully) makes sense. Now we see if Hurts can improve in the passing game.

First of all Hurts isn't a NFL QB. Second even if he was - who's he throwing to and who's blocking for him. The OL is a shadow of its former self and they haven't had a good WR in years.

He had an MVP year followed by a couple clunkers and he was a bottom five QB this year.

Not exactly a prime trade candidate.

He hasn’t been the same since he lost some mobility.

His problem is that he got used to taking a long time in the pocket waiting for his crappy receivers to get open. And his OL provided that time until they finally got too old. Lately Wenz was still expecting the protection while waiting for the sub-par WRs to get open only he's bumping into the reality that the extra time isn't there and his WRs aren't getting open. So he's been forcing passes, fumbling and getting picked or just not getting any time at all. Good Luck with that Jalen.

Correct, if Wentz plays like an average NFL starter, the contract isn't bad for the Colts. I think that he is probably in that middle range as the stuff he did well in 2017 to make that season an MVP like season (3rd down conv rate, red zone TD %) was historically high and unsustainable. The stuff that Wentz was horrible with this year, mechanics, fumbling, not reading the open receivers should be correctable with good coaching from Reich. Now Wentz has to accept that coaching, all reports out of Philly last season indicate he was resistant to it.

The contract was horrible for the Eagles though since they'll take a record dead money cap hit this year, https://overthecap.com/the-biggest-dead-money-cap-charges-of-all-time/ .

But since they are rebuilding anyway and the contract will be off the books in 22 it is what it is for them.

I don't love the compensation, but I don't mind it. The Eagles screwed themselves with a bunch of gambles that didn't go their way and every one knew they had to trade him so getting a potential #1 is good, but they should have never been in this position in the 1st place.

See I think those were on the OL and the WRs more than Wentz. Hell it probably even affected his mechanics.

I don't disagree. The Eagles aren't going to be competitive this year or next. Clear the bad salaries and start over. Let Hurts lose games. I don't want to stsrt the five year clock on a rookie qb contract until we're ready to win.

Sure that has some to do with it, but during the season there were several breakdowns from analysts that showed him completely blowing open reads, pulling the trigger late or killing the called play into a wrong one. Some of those things you can live with from a rookie QB but not a 5th year one. Every week when questioned about these things he said it's on him and he will fix it, but he didn't. Some of that is on him and some of that is on the Eagles coaches.

Here's a couple of short takes I found here were a bunch of others.

Sure I get that. But this is the first year he was both under pressure and had no talent to throw to. That's going to cause some bad decisions. In a sense he was spoiled by the great OL in the past and it greatly covered up WRs not getting open soon enough and Wentz waiting for them. Hopefully the Colts have a couple of actual WRs and Wentz will have enough time to get the ball to someone actually open.

Crazy how they got rid of Wentz and Peterson. Would have thought it would be one or the other.

Howie is a disaster. Eagles are in cap hell, and he got draft picks for Wentz when we all know Howie's weakest area is drafting. Lurie has quickly gone from a great owner to one of the worst in the league. Incredible.

I expect two more failed WRs taken with the Wentz picks. LOL.

The old logo looks very 90’s. It was time for a change. Not in love with the new one either.

I don't really care what the logo looks like, the team looks good going into the season though.

I don't think it's a new modern logo. I believe they are going back to their old kelly green uniforms and fonts.

As far as I know and what their public statements have been they are only using Kelly Green as an alternate uniform. Been trying for years to do it, but the NFL had a one helmet per player team rule that was just changed. Now they have to wait until 2023 since they already submitted their alternates for 2022 and also so that Nike can fabricate the color.

Not an Eagle fan but I love the kelly green and hate current ones especially the black ones.

Not an Eagles fan either but I agree. Finally trying to generate some fan interest after alienating fans for the last 4 years with their BS politics. Sorry, I've moved on.

My enjoyment of the NFL has crashed not because of their need to cater to everyone who feels offended. Or the Colin Kapernick crap. (When he first started kneeling he tried to hide it, total fraud) . Although none of that crap helped. My big issues about the NFL is that they changed rules so defense is screwed so they can promote fantasy players needs. But the tipping point for me was the years when they changed the catch rules and nobody, including the refs and video booth, knew what the rule was.
