Yeah, knowing you, I laughed at the accusation.

However, it should give you pause for thought that someone who has no clue what your politics are would identify you as such. The pause having nothing whatsoever to do with political ideology, which is totally irrelevant here.

Your behavior recently, with respect to Tesla/Musk, has borne striking similarity to the behavior of the extreme adherents of yet another very well known public figure people who is (erroneously, IMO) commonly thought to be associated with the extreme right (when in fact he is, by apparent genetic accident, only ever capable of associating with himself). I think you are probably better than such extreme adherents, capable of self-reflection, self-recognition, and a course correction.

If I didn't think that, I wouldn't bother teasing you about it so much. I'm rarely wrong about these things. 🙂
 
At the moment, Tesla is by far the best EV out there with Rivian a distant second. A little disappointed that Tesla has not made more advances in the auto driving arena especially given the tremendous lead it had a few years ago. Waymo has caught up to Tesla and in some ways surpassed it. Tesla needs to switch the focus back to innovation and advancing technology. It has become too much of a car company.
You were doing well with the first line. Dead wrong on everything else.

Rivian production is too small to make such a proclamation. Everyone in the US is asleep on Chinese EVs. You're going to find out. Ever heard of BYD?

Waymo only operates in geofenced areas, using HD maps, and vehicles are equipped with a variety of expensive sensors + remote operators are on standby. It is not a scalable solution to autonomy. Tesla is working on a generalized solution to autonomy. Apples and oranges.

To suggest Tesla isn't advancing technology and innovation is incredibly ignorant. Study the company, their products, and manufacturing.

That's what "they" do. If you don't subscribe 150% and pledge your allegiance to the MSNBC playbook or the MAGA playbook, you get labeled as being on the other side. Contrary to what my posts may indicate, I am in the middle, mostly Libertarian and absolutely tired and disgusted by what both major parties offer as candidates. Bringing this back to EVs, about the only thing I can currently think of that I like about the current administration is promoting and providing policies that favor EV usage an adoption. Perhaps they have gone too far in some instances, but I have taken full advantage of the incentives offered, and my carbon footprint is smaller than that of an insect.

Been doing some research on the Kia EV9. Looks like Kia has the ability to use a V2L or V2H adapter. All EVs should be able yo do this. Might have to trade in my Lighting in for a EV9 soon.

You will regret it. You will not be able to do truck things.
And check the build quality closely. Friends have had regular KIAs and they seemed flimsy and cheap.

Do you know the ETA (not edited to ad, Estimated Time Arrival!) on when Lightnings will be able to use the Tesla charging network. We are probably going to drive to Va Tech game, and we might take the Lightning if the Tesla charging network is available to Ford EVs.

I rather get the R1S but it doesn’t have the 240V output option. Again, every EV should have this ability. The Tesla charging network is schedule for 2024. I’m guessing it’s going to be very late in the year.

Why is 240V output important to you? I can't think of a reason I need it, but I will be sure to flaunt it when comparing to other EVs.

I would be hesitant on a Rivian. Ford will be around. But then again, is Ford truly committed to EVs, or are they just taking a pause to catch their EV breath? Time will tell, and don't really want to hear belly bellyaching and pissing on legacy EVs some more. IMO, Ford still has the best EV truck on the market. The question is will truck people buy more of them. IDK. Seems like a great truck for suburban Harry Homeowner types.

I have my house setup to allow backup power from 240v source. I like the Lighting but not that practical for my situation
 
Ford trade in is 38k. Think I can get more from Kia (40k)

Don't have plans to sell anytime soon. For us, the ride is incredibly comfortable and luxurious. Really like being higher up on the road (when we drive our Volvo S6, feels like a go-cart). The vented/heated seats and heated steering wheel are great. The major dislike is the app/software, but we can live with it. We have plenty of garage space with the charger in the garage and free charging at work, so it makes sense for us. Basically driving for free.

Practical move, or election year pandering-probably a mix of both. For those owning EVs, probably a good thing because the charging stations will be less clogged, but will it mean slower build out of charging infrastructure in areas that have little to none?

If the savings are real, it’s real. I paid a 2k premium to get my Lighting (72k). Because I wouldn’t qualify for the new EV tax credit. I had to buy it before the rule change to save net 5.5k. I did the math and it was a ICE equivalent purchase of a 55k car.

More of a stock thread talk.

But Blink charging reported this qtr's revs were going to come in well above consensus.

The infrastructure build out is responding to charging demands.

Blink Charging? Say wha? I had to look it up. They are charging network I have never hear about until you mentioned them. I am admittedly naive to the charging networks outside of Tesla and Electrify America because I have not used a charger other than the ones at my office and the one in my garage. I have not needed to think about it, nor do I want to think about it.

But since it is up. Is there a viable route to drive from Belmar NJ to Blacksburg Va and get two reliable non-Tesla charges along a highway without worrying about getting stranded?

EDIT- Just tried routing with ABRP (A Better Route Planner). We will take the Volvo Plug-in Hybrid.

<10% of car sales in the US were EVs in 2023.
~50% in favor of ICE phaseout is bullish for continued EV growth.
2024 will crack 10% IMO
 
Had to make an emergency trip to Boston today. Decided to take the ICE instead of EV. Probably saved over 2.5 hrs. Love my Lighting for local driving but not for long road trips.

Think the drive from NJ to Blacksburg for Va Tech, using ABRP calculated to add another 4-4.5 hours to an 8 hour trip. Hard pass. Will drive the plug in hybrid.

I don’t mind the charging time but what kills me is that I like to cruise at 80 mph when it’s 65 mph limit. Range at that speed is like 75% of the stated range.

Is partly why I am not quite ready for an EV SUV. Road trips are a priority for that vehicle. And I like driving fast.

Is also why I think range will continue to be improved and by quite a lot, despite some here saying it won’t happen.

Of course this comment will be misconstrued, because I'm just a cultish fan boy, but I did Massachusetts 2 winters ago from central Jersey. Left home w/ 100% SOC, 1 charging stop on the way up, one on the way back. 20-25 min each.
Not sure where you're getting 2.5 hours from, but which EV you buy and which charging network you use matters a lot. This is important context for those considering an EV.
