Eh I don't care for voice commands, having devices always listening to me still weirds me out. Even if the touchscreen is quick to get used to, you still can't use it without looking at it as easily as you can with buttons and knobs because the whole screen feels the same. I can change the music, climate control, etc in my car without ever taking my eyes off the road just like I can send texts and emails much faster with my BlackBerry's physical keyboard than with a touchscreen phone. Touchscreens may look cleaner, but they are a step backwards as far as functionality goes. Also, this may be set up differently with different manufacturers, but when I was working at the Volvo dealership, I found it incredibly annoying that it took multiple "button" presses to navigate through the touchscreen interface to get to the controls you wanted. You can't change the music and change the temperature from the same screen. With the old-fashioned way, everything is immediately accessible.

As for keyless start, I suppose I should specify--I can see the usefulness of being able to warm your car up before you get outside. My only experience with keyless was with Volvos, which I'm pretty sure couldn't be started unless the key fob was in the immediate area of the car. There was a start button inside the car that you needed to press and it would only work if you had the key on you, so really the only difference was that you didn't insert the key and turn it, just extra technology for the sake of extra technology. Hopefully this has been completely replaced by remote starting by now.
Ignore my post. I didn't realize you still had a Blackberry. 😜

lol people make fun of me for it all the time but it's a great phone for actually getting things done. I can type without looking and never spell anything wrong, the battery life is great, security/privacy is second to none, the BlackBerry Hub (compiles all your inboxes, text messages, calls, and other communication apps into one place) is such a sensible feature I couldn't believe it when I found out that isn't standard on everyone else's phones, and since 2015 they've been on the Android OS so the only downside of the older BlackBerry phones--fewer apps--is no longer an issue. The BlackBerry OS was much more intuitive though.

You, my friend, are a Luddite. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm a tech geek, so I'm okay with tech where it actually makes sense and provides a benefit. I just feel like EVs are pushing tech in places where it doesn't make sense (e.g. yokes). Or where it doesn't make sense yet (e.g. fully or partially automated self-driving).

The giant digital touchscreens are problematic due to the distractive nature of them. And, as you said, our muscle memory works better with physical controls as opposed to identifying how far in and down a particular digital touchscreen "button" is.

Eh I'm not sure I'm a Luddite, I have the same sentiments as you--I'm not opposed to technology, I just don't like modern tech features that are implemented just for the sake of implementing them without actually providing any functional benefit, and in many of the cases we pointed out, it's actually a functional disadvantage compared to the old-fashioned way. I wouldn't be surprised if within the next 10 years, Apple or Samsung or whoever comes out with a keyboard phone marketed towards people who use their phone for work, and they'll brand it as a new feature.

The number of stodgy old men on this board amuse/irritate me to no end.

I'm 34. I don't care how uncool the brand is, it's just better.
I love it when people’s assumptions, even mine, are crushed. You’d think, as often as our assumptions turn out wrong, that we’d learn. But we never do. 😀

Being 75, should I take offense to that statement?
I vote no, but your mileage may vary.

I advise that people try to never take offense at pretty much anything. Life is so much more fun that way. Will Smith, despite ample provocation, would have done well to have heeded such advice, no?

I’ll put this another way. When we take offense, we let the potential offender win.

Do you have an actual rebuttal to anything I said? Any time someone pokes fun at my BlackBerry, they are never able to give a reason why their iPhone or Galaxy or whatever else is better.

Do I really need an argument for a communication device that has 0.2% market share? Their top phone still has a hardware keyboard. The new 5G Blackberry phone was cancelled when Onward Mobility went tits up. Blackberry Messager was killed three years ago. The operating system is Android. The phones are just as expensive as Androids with fewer features. TCL ended it's partnership with Blackberry two years ago. The company's main focus is on cyber security, not phones. The phone part of the business could end tomorrow. Or next year. Who knows? Reviews of the phone are, at best, okay. I doubt you could even find a blackberry phone to touch and look at at any store in America - Best Buy or any of the carriers.

And this just came across my search of Blackberry reviews more current than 2017. Literally the only actual news from Blackberry this year.

BlackBerry Limited has agreed to pay $165 million to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged the company exaggerated the success of its BlackBerry 10 smartphone line.

your mistake is valuing popularity and opinion of others over @robcac26 's own opinion and value scale on why he likes blackberry over other phones. i love my touchscreen phones, but there really are some days where i wished I had the blackberry physical keyboard again. a lot easier to blast out a text message without looking during a meeting.

So in other words, the answer to my question is no.

I reeled off a dozen reasons why no one in their right mind would own a Blackberry in 2022. If that's a no to you, I don't know what to say.
None of what you said in that post is a reason why a BlackBerry is worse than any other phone except for having fewer features, which I don't even think is true. What features am I missing that other phones have? In fact I'd say that with a physical keyboard (which doubles as a trackpad on some models) and the BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry actually has more features, and with better security and better battery life.

Everything else you said is a list of very good reasons to not own stock in BlackBerry, but that isn't what we're talking about. Essentially your "reasons" not to have a BlackBerry is that they haven't sold well, but what is good and what sells aren't always the same.

I gotta laugh at people giving you a hard time for choosing an atypical phone. I mean, if it's light teasing, fine. But we appear to have at least one guy actively judging you for your choice in a cell phone. Oooh, what a bad person you are! 😀

We're the nation of freedom and rugged individuality. Just so long as all your choices are what everybody else is choosing.

Screw that shit. 🙂

/\ /\ /\ 100% correct!

Took car service home last night and it was a model Y. Driver told me he loves the car. Only complaint was range in cold or hot weather days. He estimated that it’s 10-15% reduction. It makes a difference for him because that’s rides/income he’ll miss out on. I still prefer real leather.

Pretty accurate, I’ve experienced it in the cold weather, not the hot weather yet. He could plug in at a supercharger for a few minutes and get that 10% back so he doesn’t miss any rides, but I’m sure he’s figured that out.

My experience with the Model 3:

A noticeable range loss in cold weather with the heat on. 10-15% sounds about right.
Seat heater only and heat off....no affect on range; at least nothing noticeable.
AC in summer barely affects range. Maybe 5% loss.

I find it hilarious too, I never thought grown men would care so much about what kind of phone some person they've never met is using. To try to get back on topic, I wonder how long until people still using ICE cars are treated this way by EV owners. At least when it gets to that point, I'm sure I'll be on the EV side (or perhaps both sides with a modified '05 Subaru Baja for weekends 😎).
